Thanks Janb5…you were spot on for DS3! Hadn’t thought of Primark at all, although that is where I found hat and shoes to match my outfit.Looks like a beautiful day here. Lots of life admin to sort out today which I find I have to gear myself up to do.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

It seems to be another beautiful sunny day so hopefully you can enjoy some of that as well.

I agree to go look in charity shops, perhaps make this your starting pint. You may need to look in more than one, so see if you can make time this week to travel somewhere since it's half term, if there's some near the Primark you 're going to look in too even better. I lost count of the amount of times DD needed a piece of formal menswear for a drama production as she grew up, I always found something in there for a song because for a lot of people they don't get the opportunity to wear again after the wedding.
Other suggestions to keep costs low and if he wants to wear a bit more than just a shirt, trousers and tie, is to look for a waistcoat rather than the suit jacket. Again try the charity shops. We did this once with DS when he was a teen attending a relative's wedding and it looks really smart. Have you anything at home from either his or DS1's prom (if they attended one) that might still fit - I know they change a lot though in shape and size from age 16. I also wouldn't be afraid of reaching out to any friends who have sons that might have something, even the 2 older girls boyfriends. Most people will help out if they can and they are often to see something be given a new home.
Good luck, but I reckon you'll have sourced something by the end of the week.5 -
Glad you got some extra sleep.
Good luck with suit sourcing. I think at that age they are still growing so while it may be tempting to 'invest' in a suit - it may not last. If however he is likely to be looking for a job for which a suit might be needed at interview then consider it.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

(Lurker here, just posting an idea) Just a thought on the suit: I live in a village and sometimes the village noticeboard pings up with someone wanting a formal suit for an event or an interview and often one is lent for just the cost of the cleaning (and sometimes people are not that bothered about that either if it is just worn for an interview). Maybe try that?Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
It’s great to hear that you’ve managed to get some rest, Lou. You certainly need it.
I think Spendless’ idea for a smart waistcoat is the way to go, and DS2 would probably also feel more comfortable in it.Don’t know if you’ve seen, but seeds are 89p at Sutton with free delivery.2 -

The wedding was a wonderful day. It was hectically busy getting everything ready with DD1 but it all came together and was just lovely. I’m really proud of DD1 and SiL. They set themselves a budget and kept to it. They designed and printed their own invites and orders of service, sourced things they needed in sales wherever possible. They bulb bought sweets to do their own sweet trolley and did their own version of a photo booth. The photographer, was someone she had been to primary school with so it was wonderfully relaxed and the photographer knew many of our family! We had amazing weather….just a fantastic day. It was lovely to have all of my children in the same place at the same time.
Yesterday I had an email from the financial advisor to say that the remortgage had completed. I’m so relieved…it’s been a long haul. It’s almost a year since applying, 8 months since the offer was sent out but finally we’ve got there. Part of the relief is that I’ve moved from an interest only mortgage to a repayment one and I’ll be on a lower interest rate that is fixed for 5 years. I was shocked when going through the paperwork to realise that the old mortgage was on a 7% interest rate.😵 I ow need to work out how to make overpayments so that I can start getting the balance down.
Its been back to work with job 1 so back to crazy hours for the next few weeks.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Fantastic news on both the wedding and the mortgage! I'm so pleased!
And 7%...I'm sure you'll feel the difference coming off that!
