2 books decluttered from the house (the hospital where i work has a book drop) and 4 items that would be better in the office than in my bedroom now duly relocated.
3 bags of paper waste decluttered from my office first thing. Already looking soooo much better. Have found all sorts of things including 2 packs of sanitary towels, book of 1st class stamps with 8 still in, thermos mug i thought i must have left somewhere, 1/2 a box of mixed fruit muesli (might have to check whether that's still edible!), cards and a monty python mug that sings when you pick it up. unfortunately this time it won't stop singing, so i've put it in the stationery cupboard :rotfl: funny thing is i thought i needed more book space yet i now have 2 very tidy book shelves with space for a few more.
Am going hygge this year, so planning to make a cosy area in my office. i have a few items to relocate from home once the office is declutterd. feeling gooooooodMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hello, please may I join?
I know I'm 'a bit late to the party' but this is a year-long one unlike the no buying unnecessary toiletries(where I have joined in also) which is every month.
I've been joining in on the other thread since last June at least and it has helped me pare down my toiletries and other related items considerably so I don't think I'll need to join in on that one for much longer
I don't buy toiletries like that anyway, it's more if I get overwhelmed with gifts at birthdays/Christmases. :rotfl:
I still live at home with my parents, the bedroom my boyfriend and I use is practically spick and span, it's just the rest of the house!
We lost my granddad just before Christmas, and if things go the way that people were talking about when he was still around then we may be moving house either this year or early next year so we need to get rid of a lot of junk! Even if we don't move just yet, it'll be so liberating to get rid of all the useless stuff!
I don't think I'm going to try and reach a certain number or try and do a certain amount of time of decluttering a day or anything like that, I'll just scope out the obvious junk and dispose of it as fit, and relay my progress on here
We have a fortnightly kerbside recycling collection which we use religiously. Any and every kind of recyclable food packaging goes in there, old letters(shredded if there's any personal info on them) envelopes, junk mail, magazines/catalogues... you name it, if it's recyclable, it'll get recycled. If there is any large cardboard, my boyfriend will bale it all up together and put it out next to all the other recycling.
We have what they call a household waste recycling centre a 15 minute drive from where we live so it's never very hard to get to the tip if need be. We have already been twice since just before Christmas - the first time was to get rid of some random household things and the second time was to get rid of a few more random household things and product boxes from received Christmas presents(we had no recycling collection over the festive period). Oh and at least a dozen very old tins of paint that were here when we moved in 10 years ago!
I have already scoped out our old telephones(I gave mum new ones for Christmas but forgot to take the old ones on the second tip run) to take to the tip and 2 incomplete plate sets to take to the charity shop.
We also already have several bags of glasses, cups, car bits, novelty gifts - you name it we have it - to take to a car boot in the shed. We were meant to do this last year but it just never happened. That is one of our goals this year.
I also have a few items of mine I no longer want listed on a couple of local selling groups on facebook. Will keep bumping up those posts until all items are gone.0 -
I'm wondering if anyone else is selling things as they go. I've just worked out that since the 2nd Jan on eBay and Gumtree - and after taking into account ebay/paypal fees - I've made £150 which I don't think is a bad sum for 11 days! :j
I've mainly sold dresses, a couple of coats and some toys. I've still got my bulky baby items to clean and list as well as a few other higher value items and a lot of other bits which need sorting. It might be interesting to keep track and see what the total is at the end of the year. I got an email from ebay recently saying the average home has £4k of unwanted items :eek:0 -

I'm selling some bits as I go along but have only set myself a £500 target this year as I've been doing it for a while - to the extent that I currently have NO items on ebay/ waiting to go on ebay. Obviously more will appear (I have 4 children so there are always things outgrown etc) but it's so nice to currently not have a pending ebay pileI don't believe we have anywhere near £4k of unwanted items nowadays - I've been following KonMari method for over a year and that got rid of a lot of items - and (just as importantly) - stopped a lot of new things coming in! :T

I started doing Konmari last year and did well at first but lost my way. I'm thinking of going back to it as currently there is no structure to my de-cluttering. It did help an enormous amount as I have bad hoarding tendencies and before reading the book would barely let anything go!0 -
need to get another room boxed up for decorator. Unfortunately can't empty boxes of books into office as he says to leave shelves a week to dry. looked on amazon for boxes then remembered some boxes that ahem hadn't been unpacked since we moved offices nearly 4 years ago. Have just unpacked 7! 4 were easy as they were unloading journals onto the shelf (though clearly no-one now looks at the hard copy cos they're all online!) and the other 3 were mine. oops. of course a lot of it has gone straight for shredding, 1 has gone into the filing cabinet drawer i cleared this morning. i still have one box to unpack, but i think that's enough for one day!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

It does get easier when they get bigger as there is generally less stuff and they keep/ use it for longer - mine range from 19 down to 7. I must admit, I was glad when we saw the last of the large baby/ toddler/ preschool type items - especially as we'd had most of them since the eldest was born so they had been hanging around for a looooong time!:D My eldest now uses the KM principles herself on her items - which is great
I tend to use nearly new sales for most of the kids' stuff, so I currently have 4 (not big) boxes of items priced up for the sale next month - so I still do have a pending 'to sell' pile. After the sale I go through unsold items and usually donate half of what's left to charity and maybe reduce prices on the rest for the next sale (I don't tend to have much left, though, as I price it cheaply so it is more likely to sell - I just want it gone) The kids get the money for any toys/ books/ games of theirs that sell and I get the money for clothes (and I used to get money for equipment (eg: stairgates) but we don't have any nowadays) - it's also an incentive then for them to clear out things they're not interested in - they get the money to spend on stuff they now like (which is usually a lot of leg0 in this house....):D:D
