ripplyuk, that must be really hard, with people making you doubt yourself like that.
I don't have outsiders judge me like that, but from my OH I do get alot of "but what if we need it?","But we've had that forever","but ..... gave that to me/us/the kids".It does make you second-guess yourself,I know.To friends, dependinng what the item was, would say "I am sorry,I don't have the space that I used to/I don't wear that style/mum gave me a whole lot of Aunt Jessie's hand-me-downs"
As for charity shops, that is just cheeky

Well,a bit of a disappointing day for Saver-upper.Not the end of the world, but a bit of a downer.

I have been donating to the same charity shop for a few years now.It is for sick and terminally ill children.I make a special trip to go there (not on my way to anywhere, etc),parking is practically non-existent,then it is a fair walk with all the stuff,so that is a challenge...But they are always so appreciative.

The last time I was there ( a few days ago),the lady did make a joke about how overwhelmed they were with donations this time of year.
Well,I loaded up the car this morning, drove over there after work.As I was reading a sign on the door,a man came out to tell me they were taking no more donations at the moment-no space in their store-room (and this is huge store, over 3 floors).I was desperate not to take the stuff home with me again, pleaded that this is the only place I ever donate to,etc. He said he thought I should try again in about a week.I said I didn't have the room to store for a week, but he couldn't help me.

So I drove back along the street, which has alot of charity shops.I even walked into a couple to check them out,but none of them had big toy sections (most of my load was toys).Previously, with stores local to me,I have found toys seem to be chucked out-no demand, apparently.I didn'yt want this to happen to my stuff, that is why I am being a bit fussy as to where I leave it.

I did about a 15 mile round trip looking for somewhere suitable to donate, didn't find anything.
So for now I have put it in the boot of my car (out of sight, out of mind, though I am not happy it is not out of my life yet.It is still weighing me down.)

Later,I might list all the items here anyway, even though they are not gone yet (I had been trying to list stuff only when it was gone for good, but it seems that is now aaagessss away .)

Feeling a bit bleugh about it all now :(.

Saver-Upper, if they are good condition toys, maybe a local hospital, doctors or dentist might want them for the waiting rooms. Or a local toddler group?

Or what about a charity such as http://svp.org.uk/Donations.

They're religious but they don't discriminate. There's different groups all over the place and I know in my area they always welcome donations of toys for families in poverty.

Hi ripplyuk welcome to the thread, people on here chat but not so much as you can't keep up and feel you have to reply to everyone. I like that balance, its one of my favourite threads. Sorry you don't seem to be having much luck, the only person questioning if I should throw something is me (apart from son he questions when I try to throw out his stuff but he's nine so i'll let him off ) that is bad enough not sure if I could cope if others started questioning it as well  Once you get into the swing of de-cluttering its quite addictive :D

that would annoy me, you always read/hear about how badly off people are and can't afford anything, then you try to give away good quality items and no one wants to take them  I have found this when doing house clearance of my relatives we had to take perfectly usable and decent (if a bid old fashioned) furniture and white goods to the tip as we couldn't give them away and charities weren't interested :(

Today I have gotten rid off

74-75, two bags general rubbish/junk sons bedroom
76-77, two bags clothes to clothing recycle
78 - one quilt :j:j given to a friend for her dog - now just need to find another 4 friends with dogs :rotfl:

I saved the decent clothes for the charity shop and have some toys to go as well.

I feel much better just having written about it :rotfl:

I know how much nicer it is having less unwanted stuff everywhere so I'm not going to let anyone put me off :). At the start, I was really worried about getting rid of anything but now when I think back, I can't even remember most of it, so I can't be missing it!

I've still got a lot to work on. My main problem is clothes. I've still far too many and I can't work out why I keep stuff I never wear. Also, the garden shed is filled to the roof. I'm not even sure what's in there. I also have a tendency to hoard food, and it's taking over half my kitchen cupboards as well as the storeroom.

Right, time to cheer myself up with a bit of a list :D.

Taken to school's nursery/reception classes this morning:
    (from loft)
48-52:assorted boxes, mostly collapsible ones from ikea
53-54:2 cardboard envelopes for storing papers
    55;sentence-making cards
56:toy construction helmet (7yo DD did look very cute wearing it into school :rotfl:)
57:1/2 bag of milk bottle lids

    Decluttered from the house:
Before going to work this morning,,I sorted out a box of books that has been sitting on the front-room window for months (since moving back into the house). Some were maths books belonging to my son,(who is on the gifted and talented register for maths,so I kept those as a record of what he could do when he was so young.)Other books just needed returning to kids' bookshelf ( which will need decluttering at a later date :D).

Other books were untouched,in pristine condition:
79-85:Horrid Henry annuals, science experiment books, etc.I knew a friend's boys might be interested in these,so have passed them on.She seemed very pleased :j

The other thing I did this morning was look in the cupboard space of the Welsh dresser in our front hall.I knew it contained toys that haven't been played with for years.I found toys and set them aside for donation.
The othe thing I found was a bundle of 15 newspapers "that I will get around to reading one day".They were dated 2010-11  :o:o
So 86-100 put out for recycling
