Here's something you may all want to try - we're counting what we get rid of, but are you counting what you keep?
good point. Also I'm counting things I've found. So today's rich pickings were my favourite belt and another belt. Considering I only actually have 3 belts and belt 3 is still missing I was getting to the point of needing to buy a new one!
Decluttering the letter rack has been a very good idea - I dealt with the 3 bits of post (including £25 win on premium binds) straight away. Cabinet now just has phone, phone books, tub of pens and notepad on.
finished decluttering office for decorator to start tomorrow, phew exhausting, but another 5 bags to got to dump / cs / recycle yay

I have been having a bit of a poke around the mountain of boxes,to see what is within.Threw out a couple of pieces of rubbish, and re-arranged a few items, putting like-items together.Lots of dertritis that I find hard to sort through.
76:Found a small collapsible box which I was using as a toiletries box before we moved to inlaws' house during building works.Apart from a few toiletries,it contained a couple of empty containers, which I have put out for recycling, some shoe polish(!),put away.Small box now emptied and put away.

I have got a busy day tomorrow.I hope I get some time to declutter.Hopefully will get to charity shop on Tue.

No decluttering today, as back to work. The only thing I will get rid of is a form to claim back dental fees for dd, its been sitting around since before Christmas waiting for her to find me a piece of info. She didn't manage that I did when decluttering.

I am soooooo tired tonight, but really fancy decluttering something while I wait for daughter to come home. Will have to have a look and see if I can find something quick to get rid of.
Today I did get rid of:
77: the ikea net basket I emptied yesterday.I washed it in washing liquid, and gave it to a customer to use a dirty wash basket. She thought it was a great idea.:j

Not much done today, just finished off the rest of the cds, kept a couple that have a lot of meaning to me but the rest are all in the charity box. Tomorrow I can take down the wall mounted cd rank, and begin a new area of decluttering!

Walked dogs this morning via clothes recycle bin so both bags sorted yesterday out the house. Ditto large bag of paper waste from clearing office yesterday
Home to find decorator getting on great guns with office. He's keen to do 2 rooms in tandem so then spent 20 minutes moving stuff from ds's room (he's currently away at uni) to guest room. Oh boy, who needs the gym?!

Can I join this? I'm a bit unsure about these chatter type threads :)

I've been on a mission to declutter since moving to a much smaller house 18 months ago. Getting rid of furniture was forced upon me as it simply wouldn't fit in. But that was actually a good thing as I realised how much stuff I had that I didn't need or even really want. I've been doing well working my way aroud the house, going though clothes (still a work in progress) books (Like a library of them), endless knickknacks/ornaments, kitchen cupboards etc.

I finally tacked my large DVD collection recently but then my mum (the opposite of a declutterer) called out briefly for a rare visit. Straight away she said what a shame it was that I'd got rid of my Little house on the Prairie collection etc. (I haven't, they've been moved to those zip up disc storage wallet things, in a drawer). Even when I showed her I still had them, she commented that the room looked 'bare' without them.

I don't think any part of the house looks bare. I still have ornaments, teddies and books on display everywhere but they're the ones I really like, not just fillers. I love how much easier it is to clean with less stuff. But still the comment bothered me. I also have a friend who expects me to have kept every single gift she has given me over the years. Even clothes that have worn out.

Then there was the cuddly reindeer ornament that I brought to the charity shop before Christmas. The lady kept saying that she couldn't believe I'd want to part with it. Even though I had no room for it (it was quite large) her comments made me think twice. Does anyone else have this problem? I find that people always seem to have an reason as to why I should keep something that I no longer want.
