All good intentions for the weekend clear out haven't materialised yet!! But have made a tiny dent:-

    3) 6 x papa johns garlic dips (I hate garlic, but no-one else ate them)
    4) marmite chocolate bar (use by 2011 )
    5) old stereo system/turntable - still in house but now in DS2s room as he's 'discovered vinyl'

Will try to do better tomorrow. :o

I don't like going to the tip as they look through all your rubbish :( to make sure that you are putting it the right bin.

I know what you mean... I know they need to make sure things are recycled if possible but I don't like the way they challenge you if you're putting stuff in the general waste. At my tip there is a man with a "grabber" who pulls bags back out of the general waste and opens them up to check there is nothing recyclable inside... what an exciting job that must be! :(

I started decorating my bedroom today...

    37. Bag of coat hangers, mainly broken - to go to tip for recycling
    38. Tin of white emulsion which had been in the broom cupboard for ages - used on ceiling
    39. Old net curtain
    40. Carrier bag of general rubbish collected up during decorating.

Been away for a few days with work, staying in a stunning suite, of course no clutter to be seen anywhere. Today pleased to say another car load to the dump (into the various recycle bits), 4 bags to the charity shop and 4 bags for the blue bin when I remembered my neighbour has been on holiday since before last time blue bin emptied - it's paper, plastics and tins so mine was heaving after Christmas. We have a guest staying tonight so the guest room is decluttered and cleaned. Decorator starts on office Monday so need to finish that tomorrow. Slowly but surely...
Oh and found very nice lampshade in attic and have replaced tatty one in front room. Goes better with the curtains too :-)

At mine today there were three people "guarding" the general rubbish bin, no one was anywhere near any of the otherbins!

I was ok I had sorted my stuff beforehand so had very little to go in the general rubbish but lots of others were getting turned away and made to re-sort their stuff.

Like you say they are only doing their job and its good they check so no unnecessary stuff goes to landfill, but it is embarrassing they were laughing at something I threw away :o they weren't being malicious, I suppose they to have some laughs to make the day go quicker.

:) Could i join please, I need help in letting go off my inherited junk off my parents and grandparents, somehow i feel ive been entrusted with these things and should keep them . I also feel bad getting rid of any cards my (grown up now ) kids have ever sent me , sad I know :( Ive also got my own families clutter to sort out and let go off, Ive made a start today after work, threw some old xmas decorations away, and sorted some unused toiletries and dressing gowns out to take for ward stock at the hospital where I work, hoping that joining you will give me the push I need.

Sorted out a few boxes and baskets today, a mass of cables binned, papers sorted and those that can go into recycling gone, others with either be shredded or possibly go on the chiminea if we get enough dry weather one evening for me to it going.

Oh,bless you Art Deco.Welcome aboard hugs.gif.I am exactly the same as you when it comes to stufff the kids give me.I have got boxes of stuff in the loft, and trinkets all over the house that kids have given me since they were born.I have kept every birthday /mothers day/Christmas card, every "I love you " note, etc. At this stage I can't imagine getting rid of any of those, though I might feel differently when my children are adults.
I am sorry you are having to deal with letting go of stuff you have inherited-that must be really hard. But we are all here to support you,so stick around.Little baby steps and all that.......

Did I mention we went to the tip today and offloaded a fridge?:DJust thought I would mention it :).

I have continued sorting stuff in the loft this afternoon. So far I have filled two bags with stuff to go to charity.I won't list them until they are out of my life.

But a few things I can list:

    Binned:
39:small stuffed toy,had started to go mouldy in loft
    40:child's novelty wash-mitt

    Recycled:
41-45: 5 more Build-A-Bear workshop boxes.Had been crushed while up there anyway
46: bundle of 16 baby magazines, from 2002 :eek:.When I was pregnant with my eldest,I didn't buy many mags, but I did buy a few,and some were given to me.I also took copious notes at the ante-natal classes, and about finding the best washable nappies (of which there was not a great choice 15 y ago). All put out for recycling
47: found a cake topper that was given to me after my brother's wedding. For noe have put it in my display cabinet. There is another one around somewhere. When they finally meet up,I will decide what to do with them

Does anyone know who will take /can recycle duvets?Have 1,maybe 2 in the loft, and I am sure I saw a sign at the tip saying they go in "general waste" bin. Can't they be recycled?
