Here's something you may all want to try - we're counting what we get rid of, but are you counting what you keep?
I had a quick look through my t-shirts earlier, and took a couple out that can go. I then had a thought to count up how many I actually had - 27! That's not including a separate pile I have for sporty stuff (they don't get worn too often!). Why do I need 27 t-shirts? I only wear them in cooler weather under jumpers and shirts, as I prefer polo-shirts when sunnier times come. So I'll definitely be revisiting that drawer, I might try to get it down to a dozen or so.

This afternoon I have spent about 2.5 hours sorting through the mountain of boxes in my front room.It involved sorting through lots of papers:kid's notes, old mail,a couple of school reports, soooooooooooo many envelopes, which I used to have a bad habit of saving just incase.
Decluttered so far today:
House:
70: bag of clothes lent by a friend, returned
71: large roll of carpet off-cut.Now,if it was just me,it would have been set aside to go on the next trip to the tip.But OH,who will always find an absurd use for most bit of tat, hurriedly carried it to his mancave. As far as I am concerned, that is like it leaving the house.:D
72:assorted papers, out for recycling.Amongst them, saw the receipt for the dust-buster I had tipped yesterday. Now,if ,in the life of the dustbuster,I had ever needed this receipt,I would never have found it
73:very old tin of lip balm, binned
74:some of the magazines we used to buy for the 2 eldest kids when they were little. That was a hard job.Looking at their favourite magazines with their early hand-writing: back-to-front letters and numbers, scribbles for colouring in...I still kept too many of them
75:lots of different-sized envelopes (from birthday cards, school reports, officialdom, etc).I used to have a bad habit of keeping them for re-use.If I live to 100,I will never get through all the envelopes that continue to come through the house,so they are now out for recycling
I found that a pretty intense session, and because it was mostly bits of paper that were boxed up,the mountain doesn't look much smaller.
I think I will have a cup of tea,then do some "big picture" jobs: clean bathroom,tidy kitchen,etc.Feel like I have been focussing on lots of close-up work,now need to re-focus.SPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76

42. Finished the free sample of foundation this morning
43 -46. Recycled old Asda free magazines that I was keeping for recipes (pulled them out)0 -
These lists are going well. Pat on the back for you all.
I had the urge whist I was watching TV to just nosey through the books on the unit. A few have gone to the 'job lot' for eBay and others will be going upstairs as 'we' have decided to keep them in space created in our bedrooms - I am also hoping it encourages the youngest to pick them up more!
The ones for eBay I don't think i ever touched. I had good intentions as they are cookery and sewing guides. I got them when you used to get book club offers like 4 for £10 from readers digest many moons ago. Now i just google!Don’t put it down - put it away!

My decluttering for today is throwing away one nearly used up shower gel that I just never liked, and sorting through cds, putting them all onto the computer and putting the cds into the donation box for charity. I don't actually listen to them now, but it will be good to have the music incase I do want to relisten one day0

I started decorating my bedroom today...
37. Bag of coat hangers, mainly broken - to go to tip for recycling
38. Tin of white emulsion which had been in the broom cupboard for ages - used on ceiling
39. Old net curtain
40. Carrier bag of general rubbish collected up during decorating.
Aaargh! Somehow the coat hangers didn't get emptied from the car at the tip, so I still have them. Never mind though, they will be disposed of next weekend. Today I have removed:
41. Electric Blanket
42. Plastic Box
43. Lampshade - I count this as I found a new one in the bottom of my wardrobe(!) so I swapped it with an old one and threw the old one away.
44. Frying pan whose handle had fallen off
45. Old coat to charity
46. Plug in night light which was broken
47. Mobile phone (broken)
48 & 49. 2 old flat cushions0 -

So for a change of scenery this afternoon,I cleaned the upstairs bathroom. As part of this,I [STRIKE]sorted out[/STRIKE] removed a large ikea net basket of bath-toys.Some of the toys on there were used our 15yo when she was little enough to need adult supervision in the bath .My kids now either have a bath when at grandparents' on a Sunday (because our bath has not been properly re-sealed since extension, and we don't trust it not to leak into new kitchen),or showers during the week. Not actually going to count that until all the plastic toys are taken to the tip, hopefully next weekend, though I have yet to inform OH another trip is planned
.So that has cleared alot of floor-space in our very small bathroom
I also cleaned kitchen from top to bottom, cleared all surfaces, caught up with any hand-washing up that needs doing.I have also done threee loads of washing up tonight..
Nothing really to count this afternoon, but I did find more things for charity, and put stuff in car to take to nursery tomorrow.Again,I can't count it until it is actually out of my life.
