    Everyone is doing so well!:j
When I came home tonight,I had a bit of a poke around the loft.(I say "around the loft",but there is no way I can get around the loft at all.!So I climb the loft ladder, step into the loft, have standing -room only to gaze in wonder at all my [STRIKE]precious stuff[/STRIKE] tat.I dragged a couple of boxes down, then after kids had gone to bed, spent about 2 hours decluttering:

    Chucked from loft:
15: Ben10 activity book.My son (now13) used to love Ben10,so I kept it.Loooking at it today,he had only found one word in a word-search puzzle, and done nothing else in the whole book. Not worth keeping.Recycled
    16:children's music cassette in case.
    17:sudoku puzzle book (from 2005!),recycled
    18:dvd in case
19:tiny dolly, must have been part of a play set.Probably put in loft by accident, ooops. My kids were probably looking for it for weeks :o
20:unopened packet of felt-tip pens. Will hide those for when my kids "reaaaallllly need a red/blue/purple/yellow pen",but can't find one.

    I also found
21: a beautiful album that my OH gave me one birthday or Mother's day, about 9 years ago:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Winnie-Pooh-Photo-Album-Milne/0416198015/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483491110&sr=8-1&keywords=0416198015
He filled it with photos of our three eldest, very small children. Each photo had been chosen by him to "fit" the line from Winnie The Pooh that was on each page.
Despite being in the loft for a few years,it is in perfect condition.Have put it on display in the same cabinet as kid's baby shoes

Other things bought down from loft but not decluttered-sorting projects for another day:
    -assorted cookbooks
-bundles of school photos. Not a complete collection, but a good chunk

    House:
In our front room I have a mountain of boxes/bags to be sorted. So I also emptied one of these. The bag was longer than the ones charity shops drop at the doorstep, and it was full of stuff bought back from inlaws' after we stayed with them during bulding-work.Some was clothes (and an odd sock, which I had kept the mate of!This is why I never throw away odd socks :D)
    8: plastic bucket with lid,recycled
9:bag of dead felt tip pens
10:swimming goggles, will put in the boot of my car with all the others I have had to buy because we constantly misplace goggles, hehe

Also found a hairbrush,to put away, and 3 little plastic boxes with lids that belong to my 10yo.

In my efforts tonight, I also set aside a few things to go to charity later this week. Will list them when they leave the house.

Another bag for the CS. and the bathroom cabinet and ditched some stuff. Have some shredding to do and the kitchen cupboards. Still trying to sort the bedroom. My house still seams a total mess DD goes back to UNI on Friday hopefully I will clear much, much more this weekend.
I have also made the decision to purchase a storage file for my documents and file them away at some stage.

As I have put the remaining decorations away I have been putting random clutter in some pine tubs that will be eventually used for the guinea pigs so will hopefully motivate me on my mission!

In the tub is a bag of wires, no idea what they are for. I am keeping them for a while and if one belongs to something we regularly use then it will be saved otherwise out they go!

Not done my 'time' for the week yet as I have a funeral to go to and will do it after to help me realise that sorting through this now will save my family having to do it but also that i can then spend my time on positive things rather than worrying about all this.
Don’t put it down - put it away!

Would like to join in, though I'm not sure I'll reach 2017 items unless I start counting old pens and pencils individually (Had already decluttered some stuff before Christmas.)

Most things on the list donated, sold, used up or recycled...trying to bin as little as possible...

    4. Magazine
    5. Bath Bomb
    6. Big pile of receipts
    7. Christmas cards
    8-9. Baby Clothes
    10. Pencil
    11. Dress
    12. Hair accessory
    13. Random single earring
    14. Belt
    15 -17. Toys
    18. Scented candle
    19. Handbag

No real method to how I'm doing this. I'm considering going back to the KonMari method as it may be more efficient than just decluttering random items as I come across them.
  • Had a good sort out in kitchen cupboards today - I did them all this time last year and found a bunch of stuff thats been untouched for a year!

    - old food/baking stuff/spices/packets/jars/bottles - contents chucked away
    - vintage jelly moulds - will go on ebay
    - recycling of glass/plastic containers
    - more burning of packaging/xmas stuff
    - cereal cupboard had some bad things lurking at the back - gone!

@ KitKatMum2: I also try and re-purpose/recycle/donate/sell and avoid sending things to landfill where possible :)
