I have just found this thread from a link on Facebook. It looks really great. Hoping to get some good ideas for next Christmas. It will take me a while to work through all the links at the beginning. Thanks to whoever took the time to put them up there.
Heading into Glasgow tomorrow to do some sale shopping. I am usually quite good at buying half price cards and wrapping paper. I have been a bit disappointed in other things in the sales over the last few years.
nic2075 my daughter works part time at Silverburn and the parking at this time of year is horrible. Thankfully this year all her shifts have started at 9am so I haven't had to give her a lift like I did last year, but one day she finished at 1pm and it took her 40 minutes to get out of the car park!
Welcome to the thread. It's great for ideas and chat all year long.
I always go shopping either first thing or late at night. And park near the exit.my friend got stuck in the muilti storey at Silverburn for over and hour on the 27th. Just not worth it with kids lol.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
Thanks for the birthday wishes. My munchkin is adorable although I think we'll be ready for school to be back on Wednesday.
Murie I hope your DBIL gets better soon. Your hubby sounds like a real good egg. It is near impossible to help someone who does not want it, so your DH did a great job. I'm appalled at the service he got though! I've only had to call an ambulance a few times, in Yorkshire, before my brothers were diagnosed as epileptic, in Norfolk when a lad on a motorbike without a helmet got hit by a car and once here in Dorset when I was called at work by a parishner who was distraught having found his neighbour had taken an overdose and made him promise to not call an ambulance. Each time the service we had was very quick. They even sent the air ambulance for the last one, my son was at preschool at the time and they were taken outside to see the paramedics come land, and then because the ambulance hadn't arrived yet to take them closer to the site the postman gave them a lift!
Peppa, I like your no need is good news approach.
MrsI, it sounds like you have really enjoyed having your family round you.
I told mum I might take my decs down before new year's day and she said "are you even my daughter?!' haha! It's only because I want to do a good clean and rearrange the furniture again!0 -
Peppa- that's the best way to look at things x
Welcome Hippipal!
Thank you all for your kind wishes about DBIL- he is in the right place to receive treatment for his present illness and now DH has been on the case to the relevant Social workers then hopefully his underlying issues will be alleviated when he gets out of hospital. He is never going to change but hopefully they can ensure he is less vulnerable by making sure there is consistency in his level of care.
I am in awe of our ambulance service and hospital staff as I feel that they are the unsung heroes of our country- not some footballer or sports star, but this has made me even more aware of the stress that they operate under both in practical terms and more obviously financially. We have never had any problems on the rare occasion we have had to call them in the past, hopefully this was a one off. However Social services are another matter entirely.....lovin' this site!

Hi Hippipal nice of you to join us.
Fingers crossed Peppa.
Oh Murie, what a worrying situation.I agree completely about Ambulance staff,my step son works permanent nights and faces regular violence whilst trying to help people. I trained as a nurse at 18 then as a social worker before I had children.Stressful back then in the 80's and 90's,it must be awful now.My thoughts are that drugs have completely changed society and not for the better.
I didn't get as much done yesterday as I would have liked as my cousin phoned me for 2 hours.By the time the call finished I had developed a cold!I only had 1 day off inbetween the new one and the last one.
Yes we do Christmas crafts every month,I shouldn't say challenge as that makes it sound competitive which it isn't at all.You can join in if it suits and we post a pic at the end of the month. We have a theme and we can make whatever we like with that theme.0246....?(no memory for numbers, sorry) sets the theme.
I had the chat last year after my MIL spent too much on us.I know it is very ungrateful but I would rather she saved her money. We NEED nothing. She took heed, though we did get totally random stuff.I had a cupcake corer and a machine which seals bags.Mr V had a tool belt, hahahahahahaha. He is the worlds worst DIYer.Last year he got some microwave beans and I had panscrubs.I feel so much happier that we are not so wasteful this year.
2016 has been pretty pants for a lot of people so lets hope 2017 is an improvement.Happy New Year.Thank you for your company.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx V:0 -
Morning all, Welcome to all the new members of this christmas crazy crew xx
Still enjoying having the kids off, we are playing games and relaxing. We off to see a panto today then home for a buffet tea, lots more games and a late night, probably about 12.30-1.00am. We up and out for church tomorrow then back to mil to eat and catch up with hubbys family. Dare I say I am fed up of chocolate, I am bloated, feel sluggish and just yuk! have had fruit for breakfast this morning but need to start healthy eating again x

It is National Bird Day on 5th January as well as Chinese New Year on the 28th (Year of the Rooster) - so how about 'birds' as the theme for January?
Valentines Day is in February so perhaps 'love'?A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Welcome HIPPIPAL, I'd say you're definitely in the right place.
0462 I'm the same, fed up with chocolate now (words you won't often hear me say) and feeling in need of some healthier eating. I'm really going to try to cut down on sugar and processed food for the new year.
VULPIX we set our £10 per adult limit on Christmas presents for the same reasons - none of us desperately need anything and don't like to see money wasted. It's actually fun finding pressies within a set budget although DD1 is like your mum and buys the most random things. This year I got a crochet your own lion set (I can't crochet) and DH got a mug with a bit on the side to put your biscuit in.
MURIE keeping everything crossed for your BIL.
Thanks for your good wishes, the scan went well so just a waiting game now. DH is having some problems passing urine (sorry tmi) so waiting for a call back from the out of hours service. Have a feeling we'll end up at either the urgent care centre or A&E today for a catheter.

In case I don't get on later I'll wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR now. Your support throughout this difficult year has meant an awful lot to me so a big thank you too, I love this little Christmas community. ❤
**********************************It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
Peppa- hope your DH doesn't need a lot of intervention and you can see the New Year in at home x
Happy New Year everyone, may 2017 be a good year for everyone xxlovin' this site!

Evening Everyone, we took all the decs down today and took the tree out ready for recycling it looks like someone has wiped over my LR with a screen wiper on a computer and taken all the colour out haha. Its just DD1 and myself tonight so we are opening a bottle of fizz to bring the new year in and then tomorrow everyone is over for my Roast Beef dinner. I just want to say Happy New Year to all my pals and i wouldnt have got through this year without you all, you are all fab!!!
PEPPAPIG i hope it is good news for you my lovely will cross my fingers until the end of the month. I hope DH gets sorted out without you having to spend hours in A&E
NIC i do the bullet journalling, it doesnt matter how you do it, everyones is different, and it doesnt matter if you make mistakes. You should see mine i have been using for the last few months to see if i would keep it up but it makes me happy writing lists, notes, colouring with felt tips etc DS bought me a proper one with dots for christmas so i will try to be neat but i am not going to worry about it. Pinterest has loads of ideas thats how i started now i know what i use and what i dont, good luck!
MURIE i hope SS get their act together and help your BIL see sense, i hope you have a lovely evening

I was right, we're in A&E! Nice staff on tonight though. A nurse, a doc and a SHO have all tried to get the catheter in to no avail. Surgical reg is going to have a go now I think and if not DH will have to stay in overnight which he's really hoping can be avoided. We know how to have a good time on New Years Eve lol. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0
