I must of been stupid when I picked up my brand new Volvo XC60 on Motability that you help to provide via the state, because maybe I should of picked a Fiesta and would of saved you some money, but then it's really my money to choose on what I use it for.:rotfl::rotfl:

    BTW

Your username really speaks volumes to what sort of person you are.

Are you too thick to understand the motability scheme?

Every disabled person who is ill enough to qualify for the higher rate of mobility is awarded a certain amount of money every week to help with the extra costs that arise from that disability. It is up to that person how they spend that money. I choose to use mine to lease a car. Why is that a problem to you what kind of car I have? Its not costing the taxpayer any extra for me to have a Volvo XC60 rather than an Astra. The only person who had to pay extra was me with the downpayment.

The other part of the PIP I receive is an amount for daily living. I pay for a carer to come in a couple of times per week to help me with personal care and a cleaner for a few hours to keep my home clean. Should this stop too?

Would you rather disabled people didnt get any help? As I said in an earlier post, I worked full time for 35 years until I became ill last year and had to finish work.

The criteria for claiming this benefit is much stricter than the old DLA benefit and lots of disabled people are having the new PIP assessments and losing their cars.

I understand it, you get a hand out payed for by the tax payer.

Some who get the hand out work others don't.

    What's your problem with this?

Do you think disabled people shouldn't get "handouts" ?

I don't understand why benefits aren't means tested. If you are a successful disabled businessman with £20 million in the bank and earn a £1million a year why can't you buy your own car?

I agree, they should be means tested. But, the extra costs of being disabled should be taken into account
  • By the way, if you also get benefits as a result of the mobility issues resulting from my crude surgery, or any other unfortunate event for that matter, we take it that you won't in fact be claiming any benefits at all, seeing how much you are against them.

A good friend of mine was paralysed at the age of 15 - from the chest down, in a motorbike accident. She was told she wouldn't live to be 30. She is now 50. She carries a colostomy bag with her everywhere she goes. She insists on a wheelchair she can move with her arms herself, not the NHS small wheel versions. Why? because she wants (and deserves) the freedom to move herself around, not to be moved around, which is the principle of motability.

Those that are moaning, would you swap places with her permanently in exchange for her DLA/PIP payment?

    I thought not.

So the tax payer pays for the person on benefits? Can't disagree with you there.

So what you're saying is the tax payer pays for others free meals.

Some of the taxpayers money goes to people who are unemployed or disabled or old or on a low income so that they can live yes. Same way some of it pays for the armed forces, the local government, high speed trains, a big sports days and tea sets for wealthy MPs.

Without looking into it I would guess the extra cost in administrating a means tested system would outweigh the cost of making it universal.
