Here is a recipe for those of us who hate tomatoes.

Sweet & Sour Chicken or Pork

    Serves 4

    1LB Chicken or Pork
    2 onions sliced
large tin Pineapple in own juice
    2-3 Carrots sliced
    Green Pepper Optional
    Sauce

    2 oz Sugar erm..substitute
½ Pint Pineapple juice (from can made up with water)
    ½ pint Chicken stock
    6 Tablespoons Malt vinegar
    3 tablespoons soy sauce
Cornflour mixed with water to thicken

Fry onions until soft or soften in water.
Boil carrots until soft or as you like them.
Cook meat - I dry fry.

Add all sauce ingredients together except thickener and warm up in frying pan. Add all meat & vegetable ingredients together in the pan into the sauce cook 10 mins or so to infuse the flavour to other ingredients. Add thickener. Serve with rice or pasta or noodles.

Every thing can be cooked from the start in the one pan but it takes longer and does not make any difference to the taste.

I've got to cook in a minute and it's not going to be good......but this weekend I am at my inlaws with not much to do so I am going to plan menus then and make a shopping list to match. I always do better that way. I have been feeling very down for a few months and the nurse said not to start trying to lose weight yet because I have enough stress on myself already but at least i'm making small changes such as breakfast and lunch and I will just let the main dinner of the day slide for now at least until next week and try to eat less of it!! My scales don't weigh me anymore as I am too heavy but my jeans do feel looser.

When I am visiting MIL my kids make me take spare food in the suitcase because they get so hungry she is quite elderly and only serves tiny portions. Perhaps I'll just go hungry this time.!!

Well done to all you losers out there :T

Frogga glad to see you are hopping alongside the wagon again...a wonderful image!

I have been at work today and was doing so well...

HM tomato sandwich, grapes + sugar-free jelly for lunch,

...when one of my colleagues presented me with an eclair (from Mr T, lovely and creamy) while I was on the phone...and before I knew it, I had taken it and had a bite!

Now I am not going to beat myself up about it...it was lovely and I really enjoyed it, but I will now have the rest of my HM pumpkin soup with some bread and cheese for tea, while the rest of my family have HM pizza and wedges...a quick tea as we have to leave @ 6:30 for my son's school concert tonight. I had been wondering what to have instead of the pizza, though I had just about talked myself into having some...now I am definitely going for the soup.
I am getting quite excited :j now as the tickets (for me and DS1 - 17) arrived today for Don McLean (American Pie, Vincent etc) in concert in Bristol next week.....we both love his music and can't wait. OH and DS2 will be in Paris (Rugby tour...arriving Sunday, after the World Cup Final), so they aren't missing out.

Must go and get the veggies on...can't have tea without veggies...carrots and frozen broad beans (used most of my veg @ the weekend in mega soup-making stint, and organic veggie box is delivered tomorrow).

    Must dash....talk soon.

    Evening all!
OH had a good 1st day at work despite getting lost on his way there - which was of course my fault :rotfl: :rotfl: and has now gone off to have a sauna and swim so I've got the house to myself Yay!!:j :j
I've had quorn fillets in rosemary and balsamic marinade (M&S on offer) with garlic and herb rice and some veggies - delicious!
Not had any pud yet, I'm better if I wait until later. Lots of walking today so tonight I'm going to have a nice scented bath in a bit and might treat myself to a G&T while I watch Holby City in peace :D
    Enjoy your evening!:A

    Evening all,

Not a great day to-day...out with a friend who is 30 weeks pregnant, hungry all the time and understands nothing about MS...not the best companion for a shaky day!

    Breakfast: Half an apple, large slice bread with butter and crab apple jelly;

Lunch: Petrol station ham and egg salad brown bread sandwich...seemed like
    way too much mayo on salad;

    Snack: Tea, slice Swiss roll, Galaxy cake bar;

Dinner: Last night's leftover noodles, 2 apples stewed with cinnamon, no
    sugar

Congratulations to those on the down escalator...MrsMCawber...d'ya need a hand with that net or do you think that Frogga will give herself a boost onto wagon...yeah think she will

Frogga...your selflessness is wonderful, you must have felt so stuffed after all that carp in your little tummy...thanks, will try to keep going on my own from now on, not fair on you otherwise.

Rockie, grats on your OH's job.
Frogga, welcome back to the madhouse ;)
Newlywed and FC grats on your weightlosses ( and any one else I have forgotten )
MrsM, were we separated at birth ( apart from the division on sprouts ! ) cos I can't bear beans ON toast and have to have them seperate ! I was a bit perturbed re the Branston beans as I'd meant to swap to them from Heinz as the latter have really gone downhill in quality the last 2-3 years... I did find this online tho ? http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/branston/baked-beans
cotsvale, assure your nurse you are not dieting, you are trying to get into a healthy mindset re food without being too worried and self concious about it.

Day turned into a well of stress and badness for several reasons, which I won't go into. I don't think I am coming down with anything but all I have wanted to do is sleep and I ache all over. For several hours I felt like I hated every single of item of food in my house and would gladly have thrown everything edible out of the window, even lovely new fresh fruit/veg/meats from Waitrose. Did manage to make myself do some washing up in the evening and make some mashed potatoes for supper ( which doesn't sound like much but when I am feeling like this cooking or eating anything cooked repulses me ) along with ham, watercress and tomatoes, and apple juice. I ate it, I enjoyed it, I kept it down, my major achievement for the day :)

I am determined to plan for tomorrow : porridge for breakfast, mini bagels and ham and hm soup for lunch, and either chicken breasts or hm cheese and onion pasty for dinner with either salad or baked beans, fruit /raw veg for snacks. Excercise will be rushing about to and fro seeing to blinking door entry system engineers :)

Basically a Victoria Sponge recipe with half (or less) the sugar:

2oz (or less) soft brown sugar
4oz Soya marg (Pure: 59% fat)
    4oz wholemeal SR flour
    1oz Cocoa (G&B)
    2 large eggs
    1 tsp vanilla essence
1/2 100g packet of plain chocolate chips (sorry to mix measures)

    Pre-heat oven to 180 Degrees C
    1. Cream marg, sugar and essence.
    2. Sift cocoa into flour and mix.
    3. Add one egg at a time and whisk up well, adding a spoonful of flour mix to avoid mixture separating
    4. Fold in remaining flour/cocoa mix and choc drops.
    5. Spoon into 12 bun cases (in tin), cook for 15 mins or so.
Especially scrummy when still warm :D

Thought I'd drop in while 3 dozen half-sugar choccie buns cook in the oven. It is a trifle late to be baking, but only got back from DS1's concert at 10:30...a wonderful musical evening, Jazz, opera, funk, pop etc. Also, it is too late to have one of these warm tonight, so the full quantity will survive for a few hours!

Don't worry, I won't be having many of these wonderful creations, DS1, DS2 & OH will see to that! But if I do, I won't feel too bad about having just the one as a treat.

Mrs M thanks for the encouragement every day, you and Frogga really help us to keep going.

Must head for bed...working again tomorrow...will this rain ever stop...brings back memories of the floods in July (see where I live) ...not again, please.

  • Ooooh Frogga ..welcome back, you had us really worried there, what would we do without your wonderful sense of humour?
I'd try to give you a leg up onto that wagon if I could but I have only just managed to get on it myself, perhaps if we all concentrate like mad we can lift your spirits (or something)enough to get you up on there.

Has anyone got any ideas for using Jerusalem Artichokes? we have grown a big patch of them in our allotment but the only one I knew of was frying them like chips which isn't a good idea!!
This allot' is part of our M S campaign so OH will go mad if our hard work is in vain. By the way all you salad eaters out there who like watercress but cringe at the shocking price of it these days, try growing American Land Cress
most big garden centres sell packets of seeds or try the web sites of the big seed companies,it's so easy to grow even in a couple of plant pots, the stalks are best cut whilst very young and these plants are the cut and come again type, two or three plants will last you all summer,I am still cutting plenty off mine.
I was right about my birthday on Monday, had three lots of choccies bought me,I would have normally eaten them all by now:EasterBun but I have emptied them all into a plastic bag and put them in the freezer, will allow myself one a day, they take quite a while to eat when they are frozen solid .

ps what does 'LOL' mean? I'm not well up on these little diddly bits.
What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots
