  • MRsM, you'll find stock cubes do have calories - one of their components is fat! and a lot of salt as well.

    Morning :j

Well, it's really bright and sunny here.
I enjoyed my meal out last night, but having been fairly sensible during the day and determined to get back on track today..I won't let it spoil my week.

There are some really good recipes appearing on here, thanks girls (and guys  ) and they are realistic for the whole family, rather than a bland lo-cal diet recipe.

The potatoes cooked in stock with a layer of corned beef sounds yummy and I am now realising that I don't have to use a whole tin of corned beef, a thin layer will do just as well.

Thanks for all the ideas about my bridesmaid dress, I will start to price the cost of material, then if I do find a dressmaker, I will have some idea of the cost.

Unfortunately whilst I can use a sewing machine, I am not capable of making my own dress.....visions of me trailing down the aisle shedding bits off the dress as I go, spring to mind.:rotfl:

I had been puzzled as to why the dresses I tried hung off me at the top, then I realised that as they are mass produced, they make them for ladies with bigger bosoms and then they can be taken in. :o
Now, maybe if I were to invest in some magic knickers, they could squeeze the excess of my hips and bum towards my boobs. :D

Have a great day everyone, I will be back with a food update.

    Love and hugs..The Twit.

  • Hi Everyone - I haven't been on the computer much over the last few days as it has been playing up - really really slow and then shutting down the internet just when you get the page you want.... anyway it seems okay at the moment so I have skimmed through the last few days posts. Seems you are all doing really well - congratulations to all the "losers" and it does seem that even those of us who have wobbled are sticking with it for the long haul. I was really good until yesterday when I couldn't resist jumping on the scales (not due until Monday) and found that I had only lost 1lb since my 5lb loss last week - I was gutted as I felt loads slimmer IYKWIM. Anyway I started to nibble and ended up eating some stuff which I shouldn't have. On the plus side I didn't binge, but I did have about 5 slices of bread over the day, plus a couple of potatoes with my tea, and a couple of slices of all bran loaf (but I had made that with sweetner instead of sugar so not too bad eh?;) ). Anyway I took DD1 to her Saturday job in Boots at 8am and on the way home went into my local deli for some cold meat and couldn't resist buying a croissant as the guy was just bringing them out of the oven and the smell was divine. So that is all that I have had for breakfast and I didn't have any butter or jam on it.. It is my best friend's 50th tonight and she is pulling out all the stops with a HUGE party with entertainment (that guy who won Stars in their eyes as Robbie Williams) and a disco and food etc. I have to go as we (DD's and I) are all invited and she will be so offended if I don't go but I am so stressed out about it because there will be loads of people there who I haven't seen for ages and when I did last see them I was 10 stone thinner! I know it is silly to be worried about it but I keep starting to cry when I think about it and it is really bothering me. I never go anywhere looking like this - oh I had better stop this now because you will all think I am such a moaner and everyone on here is so positive.

Hope you are all having a lovely Saturday - the weather here is lovely and I have got all my washing out which is a plus.

I am seriously considering getting one of those stomach bands fitted - it's just the idea of an operation and anaesthetic which puts me off, but I might ring and make an appointment with the consultant to get more information.

    Low Fat Chips/Roasties.

Peel your potatoes and cut into chips or roasties as usual....I do tend to cut them on the chunky side, as they do shrink.

Into a pan of water and bring to boil.
Boil until the potatoes are just going soft, they don't want to be mushy.
Tip them out of pan into a colander and give them good shake.
Leave to go cool or even cold, the steam coming off helps to dry them out.
Spray a baking tray with Frylight or similar, I suppose you could brush over with a little oil.
Throw the potatoes onto the tray and spray over them with the frylight and then give them a shake so they are evenly coated.
Into a hot oven, I usually go for 180 or 200 until they are brown and cooked.

For a change, I sometimes sprinkle a bit of cajun seasoning over the top or some herbs.

    Jane, please don't feel down.

It won't be easy going to the party, but if you are concerned about the food issue and what to eat, then have something to fill you up before you go. When you are there, choose some cooked meats and salad...(if there is any).
Drinks wise, you can either use the I'm on tablets and can't mix them with alcohol, or you can have a slimline tonic and tell people you are on gin.
Or a diet coke with vodka or bacardi in it.....no one is going to try your drink to check.

If you haven't seen some of these people for a while, they will have changed too and you can take this as your chance to let people see you this one last time at your current size. Which considering the poor opinions we have of ourselves, is probably no where near as bad as you make out.
There will be no label on you telling people how much you weigh or what size clothes you are wearing.

Wear something comfortable and that fits you, you will then be able to move around without feeling as self conscious.
How often have we gone somewhere and remained seated all night as the zip wasn't fully done up, or kept a jacket on to hide a bulge.

Go with your children and enjoy yourself, whilst you may be overweight, you have now taken control of this and the scales are going in the right direction even if it's not as quickly as you would like.

I understand that there are sites that deal with the subject of the banding and also chat forums where people discuss their experiences, have a look and see how you feel.
Either way, this proves to me that you are serious about loosing this weight.

Keep positive and if you only loose one or two pound a week, it will give your body time to adjust and you stand a far better chance of keeping it off.

Take care and keep posting on here.

    Hello everyone :D

Well i got here eventually ..... have nipped out to get my yoghurts.. they are stunning..so have got a tray of 20 :p ..peach n maraccuya, peach n raspberry, cherry, raspberry....mmmm never keen on the strawberry...and didnt fancy blueberry today  ..anyway for 35c each(they were 25c:rolleyes: )...and they are 250g pots :j they are really good value...they aren't the really low fat versions... but i love em so they are worth it..

Well i had 2 weetabix moshed up like babyfood with 1tsp of sugar...refusing to use sweetner anymore...sure it contributes to messing your system up.. Its odd..i can't stand sloppy food but weetabix have to be moshed:confused: .. i had forgotten just how nice they are....

Have made a new loaf of bread.. and have some fresh eggs -so now the decission is.."poached eggs on toast" or "dippy egg n soldiers" for tea? hubby is doing it..so i think poached :D

Odds...you are right ..there are 19 cals in a stockcube....just looked it up out of curiosity...very sad at times aren't i:o ...don't know why i thought they were cal free...ah yes i do im thinking WW...where they are POINT free:doh:

    Whatatwit..

Make sure those magic knickers don't push any excess downwards ;) unless you are having a nice a-line skirt..then it will be hidden :rotfl: ... they reckon those ones that come up right to join your bra are good...as it stops that extra roll appearing between your knickers n bra:T guess everything has to be shoved downwards in those:p

    Spendaholic..
1lb off with 2 days to go is still good...:T Go out tonight and have a ball....those who matter to you won't care if you weigh more or less than the last time they saw you..and those that do care...well they can Knickers;) . So get something comfy on..as whatatwit points out -we have all done the..ok im sitting down and not moving thing..for fear of bursting zips or exploding buttons firing across the room at someone :p . Go and have a great time with your girls and your best friend...
Just think that next time there is a big gathering all those people there tonight will be thinking about how much you have lost :T . Hopefully when you get back tomorrow -we will be hearing of what a great time you have had:D

Well the rugby is on :wall: ...so i can feel a big hot bubble bath coming on, with a mug of tea and some magazines

I hope everyone is having a good day..

Debtfree...hope you had a brilliant time at the picnic....
Frogga-hello..hope all is going well mrs

Kitty scarlet.. i make cheese, potato and onion flans...taste just like the school ones :D ..but you could soon shove the filling into pasties....there would be much more "fill" to them to, than those airy fairy shop ones.... am i the only one who used to end up with pasties that had a smear of filling and a huge air pocket???
I just mash potatoes, stir in onions (fried in a little oil/butter) you could use spray oil..but i like butter n oil:o ...stir in some strong cheddar and some mustard and let it go cold... then in the pastry i grate a little parmesan and use some english mustard powder.... you can get away with less cheese in the filling that way;) . One of the few times i eat baked beans... with the flan..takes me back to being a kid again:p

Well im off for a bath before i commit murder..hubby chuntering at the rugby as usual:rolleyes: .... so i will be back later to see how you have all got on...

Have a great day.....Hello to anyone i have missed... keep up the good work everyone :D

  • Hello Ladies - hope everyone is well and having a good weekend. 2lb gone this week. Darling got a bag of sugar out of the cupbaord to show me what 2lb looks like - me moaning as usual that I hadn't lost oh at least 4 stones!!! I've found some beetroot lurking in the veggie drawer. I was looking at a recipe for Borscht but I've forgotten which cookery book it was in (at a funny age). Making Arnold Bennet omlette tonight - love smoked haddock, with tons and tons of veg. Keep up the good work!!!
    Love

OOh just discovered this! Do you mind if I join? I seriously have to lose weight, and I've decided that combining it with my debt diet would be the best way to go...

I usually cook everything from scratch, but I've just come out of hospital after a small op, and feeling pretty weak, so i've just gone online to order some easy things that just need sticking in the oven... But I'll be watching this thread with interest, till I get the strength up to really join in.

Hi Jenrigg, join in..good to see you.

Hope you start to feel better after your op.
Losing weight the OS way can help with the debt diet.

I'm sure you'll soon feel up to cooking from scratch again and sharing your ideas with us.
