Caterina - Well done to you! No wonder you're delighted. :T :T :T
Sassy - I was always a 'save the best till last' girl. I once read that you should taste a little piece of everything on your plate with your eyes closed and see what tastes the best. I was shocked that out of pie, new pots, french beans and carrots, it was the beans that I liked the most. Never leave them till last to dutifully eat when cold now.
MrsM - I think that x-stitch is going to be my saving grace during the next couple of months. I find it so soothing.
I had a go at telling mum about the thread and some of the recipes that I'd c & p'ed to use and she was clearly interested. Also all the gardening chat about what we're all growing to help feed us. But the 'dieting rules' are too deeply ingrained in her and she can't accept that eating normally but exercising 'portion caution' (whoever coined that phrase, its brilliant!) will work.
She's cheerfully telling me she's going to have a detox and doesn't mind just a plate of cabbage for her dinner and nothing else. Phew, glad I've left home.
Was talking to OH last night and he says I should tell her straight , but she's a 4' 11, miss marple, fluffy nana, who in every other way is a smashing mum. Mind, 4'11 of steel determination when she thinks she right and not past a bit of manipulation if she thinks the occasion calls for it.
Sooo, I shall add the new dieting books, which she will no doubt buy me, to the others on the bookshelf collecting dust, and I'll smile serenely through it, while gritting my teeth.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Hi everyone!
Had my first weigh in of 2008 and put on 4 lbs over Christmas!!
I did eat lots including lots of cheese!
Thought I would start trying to 'meet up' with you guys for some extra inspiration/motivation. Started up our own fat club in the summer just a group of mums and we do keep each other going and have a laugh! One person in our group lost 2 lbs which is just not right after Christmas!! I had lost 1 stone 9lbs but have just gained 4!! But I've been pleased with how we've all done as we are not doing an actual diet plan as such (ie no ww , sw etc etc) and 4 of us lost over 1 stone each.
Looking forward to catching up with you all, just finished a slim fast I had left in the fridge at work, don't normally have them but they were on offer ages ago and hopefully will stop me eating and buying food at work!!!
Good luck all xxx0 -
Morning all
hubby has tootled off to play golf, so its another morning of x stitch for me  .... then when he gets back we are off in search of seeds -advertised at 10 packs for €1.50 :j ..i only want veg ones mind.. if i can't eat it -i'm not interested :rotfl:
I had a brain storm about the cold frame :T If we want to buy any item for over €50 here we can get the tax taken off, so i think the frame was a few cents over...if so im going to get a form from camp to get it "tax free" :j
I haven't had brekkie yet - think i might have a weetabix...
dinner tonight is prawn salad with potatoes
and lunchwell i haven't decided yet -although i have a new loaf of bread under way
Alibow...didn't know who Gerard Butler was....i do now  .. he was the one that caught my eye in 300 :rotfl: I do prefer the "bearded version" he is a bit "pretty" when clean shaven... but still yummy
sassyesque - I agree with you on that :T i used to save my favourite things till last..well lets be honest, then -no matter how full i was i was still going to eat the rest. Now i eat what i fancy first then if im full it isn't so bad -mind i have shrunk my portions right down so the chances of me leaving anything is pretty remote :rotfl:
Meanmarie.... my mum is 69, arthritic and needs glasses...but give her a x stitch and watch her go :rotfl: -the back of her work looks as neat as the front. We can't have dolly being naked can we
I do like knitting too, especially matinee jackets etc.. but not many people use them now -its straight into jeans n trainers  (its official -i am getting old:rotfl: )i would love to knit some for SIL but i know that for all the hours of work that would go into them they really wouldn't be appretiated -or looked after (and im speaking from experience of other things i have got her little one).... god help our babies if we are lucky enough to have any :rotfl:
Taplady - 2 WHOLE days off :T steady on now... you won't know what to do with yourself. I hope you get to have a lovely relaxed couple of days to recharge thos batteries
morning frogga... glad tadpole had a good day..what a little pair of darlings you have there :T . I think you would have more chance of plaitting fog than getting the children i know to share anything..so "a pat on the back for you" oh and mr frog too of course
Well i should get off now..going to wash my hair, get the bread in the tin and then sit on my bum and sew :T
Have a great day all, and "hello" to anyone i haven't mentioned-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Was a bit ravenous this morning after my pineapple (just like you, Ms Pigpen!) - so had a SMALL bowl of HM museli and have left the HM flapjack at home

Well I've strung out my weetabix long enough to surf on here so I must get something done. Just had to google Gerard Butler. Now I remember, Cradle of life and that lovely voice and smile.
Just a thought, How can you say YUCK to beetroot, Frogga, and YUMMY to watercress, spinach and peanut butter sandwiches.Sounds like cravings to me.

Well fancy sneaking in whilst im typing :rotfl:
Hi Furry pig.. you will soon get that 4lbs gone again -its great when you have a little group to help you along -even when its via the PC. you will get lots of support on here...
Newlywed - i nearly got that one to do for mum :rotfl: .... isn't she lovely:D
Now i have often looked at beading and thought i would like a go-im a bit of a magpie.. anything pretty n shiney and im sold... how difficult is it? and what sort of things do you make?.... can see me having to find time to fit another hobby in here
I have the set of celtic ladies and they have gold thread and lots of beads -but are stunning to do..im on my 3rd and have 3 more after that... i have decided though that when we move to our own home.. we may not have to decorate-as there is going to be no wall showing by the time i have done :rotfl:
Cheerfulness...
It is soooo relaxing isn't it... my hubby likes it because he can't think of anything else whilst he is doing it..so he gets sooo chilled :T
I think your idea of dealing with your mum is best... just nod in all the right places, smile sweetly and then do what YOU want :rotfl: i have been doing this for years with quite a few people i know. I can see why she would have problems changing the way she thinks..im 36 and it was a revelation to me when it finally clicked that "diets" don't work -well not for me anyway
You will be fine..and at least you have your OH behind you fighting your corner -which will help loads:T
right i am off -again-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Morning ladies:hello:
Frogga - you have wonderful kids! My 2 hate each other and now they're grown up they don't see one another unless they have to
Keiss21 - we plant our broad beans in loo roll middles, we had a great crop last year!
MrsM - yes, a 'proper' man!!!
Right, you know when they say 'Feed a cold' ? Well last night I had ice cream and chocolate, today so far I've had a huge bowl of muesli with soya milk, a banana and a bag of mini cheddars (why did they put the vending machine outside my office?)
I feel dreadful and really shouldn't be in work but we're in the middle of exams ....... I think I'll just 'go with the flow' for the next few days and worry about weightloss when I feel better.
See you later folks :A0 -

I have a whole cupboard full of sparkly shiney pretty beads!!!!Think that's why it's stuck longer than all the other hobbies - done x-stitch, knitting, crochet, fabric covered boxes (cartonage), card making, stamping, teddy bear making etc etc. But beading is the one I won't give up!!!
I started making simple jewellery using bead and button magazine. Got a bead loom - small one cost about £8and started making woven bracelets. Then went to the Ally Pally craft show one October and got chatting to the bead weavers institute or guild or something.... will look it up in a minute and got their fantastic book on bracelets which shows you how to do all the different stitches without a loom so just beads and thread. Have made small shiney posh evening bags, handles for fabric evening bags that I've then made, lots of jewellery.
Works out a bit more pricey as the whole magpie thing takes over :rolleyes:working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
oooh and I did macrame too when I was younger
Here's the bracelets book with instructions on some of the stitches...
http://www.mailorder-beads.co.uk/beadworkers-guild.html
Here's the actual guild website: http://www.beadworkersguild.org.uk/index.php the book direct from them seems more expensive but presumably postage is different
And have a scroll down this lot of books to see what else you can do.... http://www.stitchncraft.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Beading_Books.html#a563
I have quite a few of thoseand just seen 3 more I would like
