  • Hi - I wonder if anyone reading this thread can help? I read somewhere about replacing the butter in baking with natural yoghurt (HM of course!). Does anyone have any idea of what 1oz of butter would equate to in a yoghurt measurement? I was thinking of trying this in my scones to cut down the calories.

Wouldnt surprise me as buttermilk can be used to make scones, girdle cakes etc and I think the action would be similar...also I remember there was a thing a few years back about using pureed prunes as a fat replacement in cakes ? anyhoo, googled and came up with this : http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_you_use_yogurt_instead_of_butter_or_shortening_in_cookies

I think its a case of trial and error ! I certainly use natural yoghurt ( greek for preference ) sometimes to replace butter & milk in mas and its delish :)

    hi all

quick update on my day, went swimming before work, did about 20 gentle lenghts, not great but better then nothing.

Had my boiled egg and slice of bread in the office, then was of out all day - driving round the M25 - did manage Thai for lunch, chicken and cashew nut and plain rice. Portion was quite small so fairly pleased.

Back home, pasta, with bacon in white sauce.

Just looking seems like I haven't had much fruit or veg today, - so may have a pear now, or readybrek as I still feel a bit hungry.

better make my salad for work tomorrow - still need inspiration for dinner, or it will be chicken curry again

Evening all, glad everyone is having an ok day.

I so take my hat off to you hgbels - 20 lengths of the pool before work!!!:A I'd need a day off work with a box of chocs to get over that.

I find it so very difficult to get enough exercise, get sore and sweaty, hate it. Walking every day and doing a much longer walk on Sunday seems to be the only thing I'm managing to stick at. I do feel better for it though and can notice my energy levels slowly increasing.

    Today's eats:
    B - porridge, OJ
L - HM mushroom soup, box salad, kiwi and raspberries
D - out with work mates, salmon and prawns in a creamy tomato sauce, 2 tiny potatoes and lots of veg. NO pudding, but a coffee with a little cream in it.
    Snacks: banana, apple

Still thinking about the Walkers Sensations, becoming fixated, it's going to end in tears, isn't it......:o

On a high point I have noticed my wrists are getting slimmer!!!!:D From the last available hole, I'm now on the 4th in with my watch. If it was only my waist.
  • Hi everyone, hope we're all feeling super positive today and that everyone enjoying the lovely last few days we've had and it's not been just us in London!

Today's not been bad at all - i had a job interview this morning so nerves stopped breakfast being eaten but filled up on some more of the sweet potato and lentil soup i made yesterday when i got home.

Tea was chilli con carne with brown rice and i had passion fruit and soya yoghurt for dessert again.

I spent a few hours this afternoon baking - trying to improve my confidence in the kitchen so lots of practising is in order. I made a bakewell tart, apple and blackberry crumble, apple pie, jam roly poly's (i got a little carried away with the pastry making and couldn't think what else to make, lol).

DD and i live with my parents and i've really noticed that they too seem to be joining me in my OS weightloss mission - my dad has a dodgy ticker and losing weight would benefit him immeasurably but he doesn't want to eat 'that healthy nonsense' -you'd think at 56 he'd have grown out of the terrible teeange tantrums but oh no, it is quite funny when he starts. Anyway, off on a tangent there, he's eating the food mum and i are cooking atm and doesn't realise he's eating healthily - he usually lives on cheese or banana sandwiches between meals but he doesn't seem to be getting hungry this last week or so which i'm really happy about.

I did 45 minutes on my bike this morning, and raced DD home from school (1/2 mile or so jogging) - you'd think with my legs being twice as long as her it wouldn't be so difficult keeping up  though bless her cotton socks she did allow me to win because she knows how bad a loser i am, lol!

Anyways, after reading the Christmas board and deciding i want to make hampers, MrsM's pictures have finally kicked me into gear and i bought a few bits and pieces today to add to them. Money's really tight so hoping to make and give presents people will appreciate because of the effort and thought put into them rather then the financial costs - here's hoping! x

    Goeden Avond Everyone!

I thought I'd just pop in to say how great you are all doing, and what great inspiration you are to someone like me with little or no will power! You are a fantastic support network!

I'd just like to mention my own progress; I'm weighing-in once a month in order to see some progress. Since Oktober 1st I've managed to lose 3lbs, which I'm very pleased with. My running programme is going really well; I'm up to 7 miles now, and on target to 10 miles before the end of the year. I'm now signed up for the Berlin Half Marathon for April, so no going back!

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I'm not a 'typical' runner, ie. in my forties before I started, still overweight, asthmatic, etc. , and have now run two half marathons already. If anyone out there would like some hints or tips
for how to start running and how to remain motivated and inspired, please feel free to P.M. me, I'd be more than happy to help out!

So keep up the good work everyone, this is a fantastic thread and part of a great support network and community. Well done to you all!

dutchy - you are doing really well on the running front - my aim is to be able to run for three miles. I got up to about 2miles 4 years ago (before kids), and am now back to 10 minutes. Until then I could never run even when I was young.

so I still a long way off my goal - but getting there slowly. I just wish I had more time to go to the gym -- did I really say that???

MrsM - couldn't do your trick of burning calories though cleaning

Frogga - did you manage to cycle home?? - I went out on the bike a couple of times in the summer and can't beleive how hard it was. I used to cycle everywhere - then i got a job and car etc
