Can I join in too? I've been lurking this thread for ages and it's been an inspiration especially on those off days.

Just can't face the scales at the moment, so I'm trying to drop dress sizes. I'm wearing a 20-22 (target 16) and have been on this "latest" trimming down session for 3 weeks - in the last week my work suits feel a bit looser, though no one has noticed apart from me!

I love cooking and my Sunday mornings are spend making soup, baking and doing something nice for dinner. Today I've made mushroom soup, lemon & lime cup cakes, rocky road tray bake (mostly for the family and some for work - none for me) and braised beef with root veg, red wine..yum.

Hate gyms, so I've upped my walking. I'm about to go out now and walk along a beach. Also watching my portion sizes, this is my biggest problem as I eat healthy foods but massive portions of it.

Oh, I love porridge and had it for breakfast with OJ, small bowl of soup for lunch and a big salad. It'll be the beef for dinner with a potato and spring greens. Will have some fruit for afters or snacks.
  • Afternoon all :)

Frogga, I'm guessing lobby is lobscouse - which is of the cawl/Irish stew school of meals :) It's really nice and simple, not too calorific as you don't fry stuff off but just stew it gently - its usually made with lamb or beef but not too hard to make a veggie version of it with good stock and nice veggies. One of the best things I have ever eaten in my entire life was a bowl of scouse - made on the premises and not bought in - in the cafe of some slate mine in North Wales on a freezing cold wet windy October morning, the weather probably enhanced its attractions but it was b*oody delicious ! That inspired me actually - going to assemble the ingredients and make some later in the week.

MrsM, O the magic combination of taters and onions... blissful sigh. I love 'em in pretty much any way a person can cook em together ! hope your jewellry making goes well :)

redmel, well done on your loss and hugs for you, I would definitely go with Mrs M's suggestion of making soup to fill you up healthily - please don't give up cos your first attempts was not so good - keep practising and come here for tips ! I also find if I want something hot and savoury and comforting in a hurry, I have a cup of Swiss Marigold Bouillon as a hot drink.

welcome katkin and Mirandamayhem, tis for everyone and anyone here :D and you both sound like you'll fit in just fine :D

Feeling about the same today - slightly tired cos I did a bit of catching up with person-I-am-inordinately-fond-of last night but it was well worth it :) Still feel spacey and dizzy although not so feverish. Bit annoyed as this is the last weekend annual leave I will get before the C word and weather is really damn gorgeous out there but daren't really risk a walk in case I start feeling peculiar half way along so am just going to take it easy. Had crumpets, bovril and cherry tomatoes for breakfast, last of my no sugar jellies and peaches for a snack just now. Have got some humous to use up so that will be the next meal and either soup or roast veggies for dinner.

Just a ? thought on some portion sizes. I try not to eat huge portions of some things obviously ie not huge mountains of roast spuds etc but when it comes to a lot of salad and fruit I really dig in - ie when I say cherry tomatoes I don't mean 2 or 3, I mean 6-10, cuke = about 1/4 of one sliced up, strawberries about a dozen, grapes - big heaping double handful, celery 2-3 big stalks, salad greens a pasta bowl full etc - but sometimes I wonder if I'm being a bit of a greedy sod about those - as one of my workmates, when we are all having a communal lunch, will bring salad in and doles out what seems to me tiny portions - 3 or 4 slices of beetroot, 2-3 cherry toms etc.

    Hi kittyscarlett

I used to eat vast amounts of fruit... and as much as it pains me..i have cut right back... I know its better than eating cake n choccy... but in the amounts i can shift there still is a heck of a lot of natural sugar....
I would think nothing of eating a kilo of grapes...which are really high in sugar i know, a punnet of nectarines, a punnet of plums in one sitting :o ..... i now buy quite a lot of tinned fruit either in juice or light syrup... but because i don't have to walk past it - i don't eat as much...

and my salads used to be big enough to put on the table for all to share :p

If could choose any food to live on forever .. it would be fruit.. closely followed by potatoes :p ..the only "potato" im not bothered bout is chips :T

I think that even huge portions of salad etc... get your body used to expecting large amounts... i have reduced everything and now can't manage 2 weetabix  ....

I have decided though, that when i go back to the UK for xmas/newyear i am going to treat myself to some lovely fresh fruit, satsumas, grapefruits especially - so that i can have a treat without being lured by the "goodies" that will no doubt be about...
at mums it won't be a problem as she buys lovely healthy stuff.. but at BIL n SIL thats a whole different matter  ..so i think i may take some extra stuff back with me;) .... better safe then sorry

  • See, I'm almost exactly the same - when I was a kid all I would eat was fruit, salad veg ( wasn't very keen on most cooked veg ), potatoes, cheese and bread. Took me a long while to get my head round eating eggs, and I was in my mid teens before I ate as much as a prawn or fish finger or various forms of meat. Even though I will eat most things ( apart from my Most Hated food objects ) I still prefer fruit, cheese, salad and potatoes above all things. I'm not sure I could eat a whole punnet of nectarines in one go but certainly could knock off about 1/2lb of blueberries or strawberries like that.

I understand what you're saying about fruit still being a form of sugar and the larger amounts of salad etc... but on the other hand I worry that if I don't fill up on fruit and veg then I will start scoffing down stupid amounts of crisps,. chocolate, cakes etc. And if I waited to eat cooked veg to get my 5 a day ( or now they're saying we should be eating about twice that !! ) I may well die of scurvy, LOL !

I usually have a bowl of fresh fruit about and a couple of tins of fruit in juice in the cupboards and a bag of mixed frozen in the freezer, plus various kinds of dried fruits, and always have celery, carrot, cucumber and tomatoes in the house. I suppose what I'm thinking is that although its not fully re educating my stomach, its better for me to work my way through a punnet of cherry tomatoes over the course of a day or two rather than sink my teeth into a six pack of crisps and a family sized packet of Minstrels in a shockingly short space of time ... yep... we've all been there haven't we...:D and I can now leave food on my plate rather than over eat if I have misjudged portions, which is a success in itself !

Who am I trying to kid? :o

DH came home with a bottle of fizz and some chocolate and crisps after some good news yesterday then I had some chocolate biscuits today because my lunch didn't fill me up.

Tch. I'm putting it behind me though and trying to be good tonight. (He can have the rest of the bottle but if he wouldn't dare risk stealing the chocolate! :D )

    lunch.. more than likely nothing.
Dinner tonight is a chicken dinner.. mash, carrots, sprouts, swede and peas.. whatever is left goes in the pan for stew tomorrow!

Dropped the swede and the sprouts but the rest was the same..

Now one of the little darlings has been in my bag and nicked ALL my bank cards and my £30.. so I have not a penny.. and if I don't get it back the chillies won't be getting any lunch tomorrow and will have to walk to school.. should be interesting!!

I know exactly which brat it was but if she gets me them she is admitting she has taken them so is pretending she doesn't know where they are.. I AM going to thrash her !!!!! for her in about 10 seconds!!.. anyway..

Other than this mornings bickies.. I'm not doing bad.. I am going out for several beers later though... I've not been out all weekend.. it is simply too cold!
