    Hi Guys

hope you don't mind me joining you !
Hi, nickiboop. Everyone is welcome here.

Just a reminder for everyone that this isn't a club. This thread is open to everyone who wants to lose weight the old style way, or who can offer advice to anyone on this.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • JustWonderful, sorry, just saw your post - sorry to hear your folks have been harsh about your weight in the past - but now is the time to ask them for their help and support. You don't have to say a thing about dieting - tell them you want to try to change some of your eating habits and you need them to be on board with this. From this post and your earlier one it really does seem as though you're not eating enough " proper " food at meals and its part of the reason why you overdo it snacking. Nothing much wrong with a cheese toastie, but try filling up with fruit and veg with or after it - that way you hopefully won't want another one ! same with the sausage roll and chips - add in baked beans and/or grilled tomatoes/ peas/ sweetcorn/salad etc. If they won't co operate then you are going to have to be firm and start maing your own meals and taking back control of your dinner !

Also... if you think that weighing yourself is going to have some depressing results right now ... just leave it be for a while. You have acknowledged you are overweight, if you feel you might get self concious or down, give it a couple of weeks or even a month before you step on the scales and concentrate on making some slow but steady changes in the way you eat and are active.

Well i posted the other day about wanting to lose some weight...

And yesterday and today have not gone to well at all!!

    Yesterday i ate:

    Cheese Toastie x2
    Twirl x2
    Sausage Roll+ Chips

    Today i ate:

    Soup+Bread

    Maltesers

    Mars Delight

    Chicken Pie+Veg

ARGH! What makes it harder for me is that i live with parents still, and dont want to admit to them that i am on a diet, as they have been really harsh about my weight some times, so they make dinner for themselves (mum is thin, and is one of these people who can eat+eat and will not put an ounce on  ) so they make the dinners (see above)...

I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow, and will probably be another lb heavier!!

Just wonderful, I know it's hard when you're staying at home, I used to think i'd be much healtier once I'd moved out (not true:o ).

One thing struck me about what you've eaten is that there's not really that much food there, so is that what's making you snack? Do you have a proper breakfast? I really think it does help to ward off cravings, no blood sugar ups and downs. Apart from that there's nothing wrong with soup and ckicken pie and bread, seems fine to me just watch the portion sizes and have three square meals a day.
    (I feel a right one dishing out advice:rolleyes: )

Edit, kittyscarlet got in there while i was slowly typing. It is a shame how parents can be so critical and I agree don't wiegh yourself too often- you're only going to get on a downer and prob head back to comfort eat!

:D Good Evening one and all :D

Hope everyone is having a good one....

Hubby is quite happy, as he put his belt on today..went to tighten it and realised he is on the smallest hole allready :T so he is going to punch another hole in... and he isn't going without anything he likes either :D ...

Hi nickiboop.... Try and convince yourself that its not another "diet" and that you are simply going to make healthier choices. It takes that "time scale" thing out of it... not thinking ooh well i will eat rabbit food for a few weeks to lose the weight and then go back to eating "properly"... I have cracked that at last.. i have spent all my life either "on" or "off" a "diet" .. now im eating everything i want in moderation...
If you can just think every morning.."ok, i will try and make healthy choices for today" and just try to get through that 1 day it seems so much easier.... I haven't banned anything.....and because i know i CAN have it.. i'm really not tempted by it... hope it works for you too:D

Pigpen - like you.. i have become an "old fashioned" cook and eater.... corned beef hash, liver casserole, savoury meat pie, toad in the hole, roast dinners etc.... its strange - but i really don't find bolognaise etc very satisfying just lately.. i think its because with a cooked dinner you get lots of individual tastes - if that makes sense...

I will have a rumage through my recipes tomorrow (after i have done the housework) and see if i can come up with anything;)

Ellas - I had the Paul mckenna cd.... forgot all about it until it was mentioned on here :p .. i had listened to it a few times before giving it away.. and i will be honest .. i am starting to believe it is partly responsible for the way i now think about food....as the 4 rules you have listed ..are what im doing :D
I eat when im hungry - not when the clock says to.. so some days my lunch is eaten at 11ish and some days 2pm.... it really depends when i feel ready,
Eat waht i want.. see my menus :rotfl: .... and if i want leftover veggies and stuffing for brekkie - i do :p
I make sure that i sit down to eat -no walking around with it in my hand, and no reading whilst im eating... terrible habbit i used to have..an so bad mannered :o - never did it at the table though :D
And most amazing for me... i can now leave food on my plate if im full - which is a bl**dy miracle...
oooh i have just spotted that you say you sometimes swap brekkie and lunch over :T so eating veg n stuffing for brekkie isn't that bad :rotfl:

Elaine..good luck with the weigh in..will keep my pinkies crossed (don't forget to have a wee before you get on the scale and remove as much jewellery etc as possible;) ... can't you tell I have spent many a year spent at WW:rotfl: )

    Hi justwonderful :D
Its a pain in the bum when other people have control of your food..... I think kittyscarlett is right ( i seem to say that an awful lot :D )... you are going to have to bite the bullet and explain to them that you are trying to make healthier choices.. don't use the dreade "D" word... and even deny you are trying to lose weight if need be...that way there will be less pressure on you.. i would just say " look mum, i really appretiate having meals made for me, but i want to start making some healthier choices... so would it be possible to have some lighter meals?" that way mum should be happy as you are soooo gratefull for what she does ;) , and by saying is it possible.. well obviously it IS possible :p - if you say"would you mind doing" then she can think - yes i do mind;) .... or even offer to cook on a couple of days.. mum will be glad to have a day off, and you can always do extra portions for those days when the rest of the family want something you would rather not have :D .... it doesn't have to involve lots of work -im sure we can come up with some cheap, tasty and quick meals....
And finally well done on posting - even though you don't feel to optomistic at the moment.... You CAN do this... you just need a little help and self belief - like all of us do.. so chin up... you will be fine;)

Kittyscarlett.. spam with tomato sauce on thick home made crusty bread
and treacle n ginger cake mmmmm -glad im not back home in the UK as my mum is making her sticky ginger parkin and bonfire toffee for the grand kids... my mum makes the most stunning ginger parkin and as for the toffee its that proper old fashioned dark stuff.... the only one i will eat..god its good.. least im out of harms way here.. although she has sent it to Germany last time we were here :p - just haven't asked for any this time :silenced:

Madsmum... trust me .. if i do fall pregnant it will happen when i have finally got down to my target weight... and i will blossom - to put it politely:rotfl: I know my luck :p -still it would be worth it :D

Right i will go away again now.(well i will lurk quietly  ).. have waffled again -well i would hate to miss anyone... even though some of you probably wish i would:p ...as my hubby always says... i will never use 1 word when 20 will do :rotfl:
Hope we all have a great evening and are bright and enthusiastic in the morning :D

was nearly in the doo doo then... evening:j ... hope you are having a good one again :D

Hello everyone, a special welcome to all you newbies....

I am a bit of a newbie myself, having only been on this thread for a couple of weeks or so. I have lost 6 pounds already, so something is definitely working! :j

You will find lots of help and encouragement on this thread, as well as a good dose of common sense and a huge dollop of whackiness (Frogga and Mrs M especially!). It is great just to talk about things honestly whether they are good or bad...bottling things up is not good...unless they are tomatoes, chutneys, jams etc (not all for personal use...promise!).

Frogga I would love to join the Christmas challenge :xmassmile
...if I continue along at losing 3lb/week. that will make a loss of nearly 2 stone...can't see that, so I want to try and lose 20 pounds..thus reaching 17 stone...it's over 3 years since I managed that!

This last load of weight has piled on since my Mum died 3 years ago, followed by a fall a year later, which stopped me working in a garden centre, and restricet my activity for a while. I now work in an IT centre as a tutor, which I love, but it is not very demanding physically (better for my back), but means I have to find time for some physical activity which doesn't hurt my back. We have a new exercise bike which I try to go on each day. I try to get some walking done everyday, whether it's walking the dog, or round the town in my lunch hour.

8 years ago I used to go swimming 2 or 3 times a week @ 6:30am ..Gym'n'Swim, free access to gym when you pay for the swim. I tended just to swim...you can tell I wasn't working much then! I would love to get myself organised to do that again, perhaps by next summer I will be able to cycle (1.5 miles) to the pool, swim and then cycle back, and all before 8:30! Perhaps in two years' time then!

Must go and take the bread and butter pudding to my neighbour while it is still warm. DS1 is ploughing through our one (I haven't had any...yet!). There should be plenty left for tomorrow night as well...yippee! I hardly ever make it these days, sooooo scrummy. Mind you, I still feel stuffed after tea, so I may not even have some tonight! I never thought I would see the day!

    Food today:

Breakfast: Porridge made with half water, half soya milk and some raisins...a little sugar (<1/2 tsp)

    Break: grapes

Lunch: Tomato sandwich with extra-low fat cheese spread with garlic & herbs (thanks Mrs M for the suggestion), salad, sugar free jelly with fruit

Break: Eat Smart chewy bar (quite nice!)

Tea: HM meatballs, HM tomato sauce and wholewheat spaghetti, apple

Supper (possibly!): Bread and butter pudding, but still feeling stuffed, so may only have a spoonfull worth later

Must go now, looking forward to seeing Don McLean in concert tomorrow night in Bristol (Vincent, American Pie etc......) with my 17 year old son. Should be a good night!

Have a good day tomorrow :A

  • Mrs M: It took six years of trying before I found I was expecting my first baby, by which time I'd pretty much come to terms with the idea that it wasn't to be. I think he spent his time in the womb knocking up signposts for all the rest of the directionally-challenged sperm to follow, because he was just fourteen months and two days old when his brother showed up, and when he was four, he got himself a sister. It seems he even left a route marked up somewhere to circumnavigate bomb-proof contraception (thankfully :) ), because he got himself another sister when he was fourteen. After which, his weary mother went to see a nice man with tube snips at the hospital, who threw up permanent road blocks :)

I can remember taking them all swimming not long after the last was born, the youngest sitting on my lap, her sister sitting next to me and the boys in the seat across the aisle, and me thinking 'My God, I've filled a bus with my kids from one side to the other'. If someone would have told me this would happen during those six years of trying, I'd never have believed them, but suddenly things just seemed to start happening naturally. There's loads of hope, and plenty of it winging it's way from me to you :)

As for the challenge, count me in. Taking the whole thing seriously now and hoping to see off 14lb between now and then. We can ditch the Christmas Pudding impersonations this year, and all be Christmas crackers instead :)
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!
  • Good evening MrsMc & Frogga and everyone else out there,
I,m joining your Xmas challenge Frogga:- going for 12lbs that will take me down to my next stone marker.
Mrs Mc , a friend of mine who was VERY overweight (84" hips) tried for years to conceive, then she lost weight sensibly and steadily and after 1 or 2 setbacks is now the proud mum of a lovely little girl.
About your dad, Come Xmas/your birthday why don't you buy a lovely candle and light it on the day ,and each time you look at that flame imagine he is there watching over you.

Kittyscarlet I wish I lived near you I would accompany you on a walk there's such a lovely world out there and the years go by so quickly that it's a shame not to make use of them.

By the way I don't know if these have been posted before but found a couple of interesting sites : homecooking.about.com and
    VideoJug.com/Food&Drink.
    8lbs off 68 to go
What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots
