  • Evening folks :)

Was pondering, inbetween watching " The Tudors " and contemplating my supper of a huge " kitchen sink " salad based on watercress and leftover chicken from last night, that there is just one thing I would change about myself, to make losing weight OS style easier and just generally. I absolutely loathe most forms of oily fish. I eat some fish and shellfish ( from being a total fish hater as a child, I wouldn't even stay in the house if it was being cooked or eatn and I was about 15 before I would try as much as a fish finger ) and enjoy them very much but apart from frozen scampi/prawns, they have to be very fresh.

I detest salmon ( although occasionally I will eat a small amount of smoked salmon ), trout, herring, mackerel, sardines etc etc and don't get me started on tinned tuna. But oh how I wish I did. I know this sounds odd but it actually really upsets me that I loathe them. Because I know they are healthy, some of them are amongst the more sustainable varieties of fish, many of them are inexpensive or good value for money, and there are just so many ways they can be cooked and used.

Anyone else have a similar thing ? ( as well as frogga's vegetable yukkiness scale :D )

I absolutely detest salmon too, I can;t even stand the smell of it esp smoked. My DH is an ex salmon farmer and as a result he wont eat it either unless it's wild caught. I like most other fish though, but sometime I think I like the idea of it rather than the actual taste, does that make sense? One thing I do love is squid - I know most people squirm, but cooked correctly it's meltingly gorgeous.

    I'm getting starving now!

I've had quite a starving day. Yesterday we visited my Auntie and she famous in the family for being stingy with food, eg we got mini pizza made from slices of french bread (2 each) with salad, two boiled eggs sliced between 4 of us and a few grapes - that would be a snacky lunch for me. I looked enviously at the kids dinner of fish fingers chips and peas! normally I get a chippie on the way home from her house but didn't this time but I was then starving at midnight and still feel hungry all day today!

That all sounds really ungrateful doesn't it? But It's part of family mythology now, my brother say she gave him soup once that was thinner than water!

Of course that'll be why I'm a chubster coz i love my grub and have too big meals ( and finish off other peoples stuff and raid the fridge at night like Nigella etc etc)
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer

    Morning all :D

Well its crisp, clear and frost covered out there..it looks lovely.... have to nip out later for a big bag of compost as i want to get some broad beans in to start over winter, So will get that and then get my containers out of the box in the cellar.... can't wait o grow my own veggies again next year - didn't get chance this year as we were moving in the middle of the season....
my first attempt last year i grew:- loads of lettuces, cucumber, tomatoes, spring onions, raddish, chillies, peppers, carrots, kidney beans, pod peas, strawbs -and it is so easy.. all in pots and so this time im going to try some more stuff too :j

well we nipped to the newly opened NAFFI yesterday, as hubby finished work early... isn't as good as i hoped although i did empty the bread flour shelf -well they only had 8 bags :o .... there was a woman there who commented just too loud to her hubby " i can't believe people go the bother of making their own bread n stuff....obviously have no life" ... her hubby went bright red...as i turned to my hubby and said nice and loud..."mmmm let me think fresh home made bread...about 40p a loaf... the equivalent shop bread here about £2-3 mmm can't believe people are stupid and lazy enough to pay that";) ..... i then tootled past them looked in HER trolley - before saying loudly "oooh i can't believe people will buy so many ready meals.... can't imagine giving you them to eat after a full days work":D and there was a huge note of sarcasm in there too;) ... strangely enough she had no reply for me :rotfl: .. although when we crossed on the next alley she wouldn't make eye contact... although her hubby winked and grinned at me and gave me the thumbs up :rotfl: ....
The thing is, i don't have a problem with what other people choose to buy -its non of my business- and i appretiate that we all have different life styles and all have different ideals - and i would never in a million years have been as rude as she was... but i refuse to be made to feel like a freak because i OS  - well thats got that out of my system :p
I also got 7 X 24 weetabix too well they were 1euro a box cheaper than normal :p
6 tubs of gravy granules ohh and some decent realy strong cheddar - something you can't get in the german shops
OOh OOh i also got my first lot of parsnips :T ..so now im happy :D

well it wil be weetabix for brekkie
lunch will probably be soup and i need to make a new loaf of bread - as i have no life you understand;)
and dinner i think will be the last 2 cheese, potato and onion flans out of the freezer... with baked beans. Must get some more flans made.

Sorry folks.. i love salmon mmm my fave fish - i have it once a week, try to have it twice if i can squeeze it in - hubby isn't a fan so i have that when i do him chilli - as im not bothered about chilli :p .... but i could live on salmon... its just a bonus its good for you

Rockie - well done on shifting that 3lb...you should be thrilled - and really pleased with yourself :T

Cazzdevil.. we eat loads of chicken too - its our faves :T .. i have started chucking all sorts of beans and pulses into the soups i make.. and i blitz them down so you end up with a thick broth...full of goodnes... hubby takes it to work-although they are having a hmhmm "slightly obvious effect on his system" much to the torment of the lads at work :p .. still better there than at home;)

Taplady - well done on resisting the huge temptation :j have to say that tesco finest fresh jam n cream scones are the greatest ever tasted but unfortunately they come in 2s :o I used to love em..so well done on resisting :D and then winning the battle with a bar of chocolate too... I bow to such strength and will power :T

Newlywed - well done on getting too small for those skirts :j .. bet your next trip to the undie shop won't be frustrating... probably just a bit espensive :D
Went on a website and did my BMI after you mentioned it  ...in fact
i put my start weight in and it came up with 48.7% then put my weight in now and it went to 43.8% ..... so even though im still virtually a pack of butter i have gone down 5% :D .... says im supposed to be 18.5% - 24.95% to be in a healthy range ..yikes.... so i will watch that number come down too:T ..it all helps in the motivation stakes :D

Kittyscarlett.. hope you have a nice relaxing, leisurely weekend... planning to have treats is a good idea.. its when we get caught on the hop that things get out of control as we end up raiding the cupboards, fridge and eating allsorts... Bet your system wonders what is happening when it gets to eat a full meal without interuptions ;)

    Ellas
Hope you all have a great day at Alton towers...i loved that place... fingers crossed it stays clear and dry for you all;) , all that walking should count as a lot of exercise too - bonus :j

well i had better stop rattling at you and let you get on..hope we all have a great day.. keep up the great work everyone :D

  • Morning losers ;)

Nodwah, don't worry, you're not the only one that suffers such a relative - my stepdad's sister in law is also legendary for the doll's house size portions of food she doles out when you go to visit ! we still aren't sure after all these years whether she's being tight or whether she really doesn't have a clue on how much to give people. Apparently it's pretty much the same when she just has her husband to feed, no wonder he used to look forward to visiting my parents as my mum has a much more generous idea of putting a spread on !

MrsM, I think you were very restrained with the rude bread lady - I would have been tempted to have an " accident " with a " wonky " trolley right over her foot ! Her poor hubby, she sounds like a very sad lady indeed, not to mention secretly envious. And also, yay parnsips :T ! I was going to torment you with tales of the ones I'm going to be eating tonight but you have taken that wee pleasure away from me, sniff sniff.:p

One of the gutty things about the " no oily fish " thing is, living right on the coast it's very easy to get decent fresh fish cheap and straight from the fishermen themselves or even free - I have a friend who goes out fishing for pleasure on his boat and has offered to bring me back bagfuls of fresh line caught mackerel etc, which I have sadly had to decline. If my loathing of it could be completely and effectively cured via hypnotism, I would do it, I swear.

Didn't get much sleep, again, but, the very weird thing is, and I think its the crisp sunny weather that's majorly contributing, I actually wake up in the mornings thinking " mm, I feel like doing a bit of housework this morning.. " mind you I think some of that is down to " I'd much rather be doing housework than either of my jobs " but eh :) So again I have been out and done a wash at the launderette, stumbled across some reduced veggies at the local co op - swede, cauli, carrots, tomatoes, pots etc - even though I already bought pots the other day, couldn't resist a 1.5kg bag for 30p ! so now I now have enough taters to sink a battleship, guess what I'm going to be eating all next week...

Have had a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Brunch will be a big BWT ( like a BLT 'cept with watercress ) and I'm thinking about cooking a roast dinner this evening. I may not even bother with the meat, depending on what I forage at the shops in a moment - I'm more than happy with a plateful of roast/steamed veg and all the trimmings.

Right, feeling a bit weary through lack of sleep but am not going to waste this lovely day by lounging around doing sweet FA - out I go ! have a good day all :)

Afternoon all - I've lost half a stone and dropped a dress size! 2.5 inches off my waist, one inch off my hips, 2 inches from under my boobs. I've been eating wonderful stuff and working out hard (cardio every day, weight training every other day) for 10 days now, so delighted to see measurable results so soon. I'm also off the painkillers I'd taken for a long time for back problems, and I feel so much better for it.

Strange Salad (because I was in a quirky mood when I opened the fridge; it was quite nice and about 375 calories)

    - 6 shaved slices roast beef
    - 1/2 tub lowfat cottage cheese
    - 1/2 pack watercress
    - 4 beetroots
    - handful cherry tomatoes
    - Sprinkling of sweet chilli dipping sauce
