Cazz, the best advice I can give you is just keep cooking as much as you can - following recipes is helpful but experience is the best teacher - those good ol' twins Trial and Error
Keep it simple at first, start building up your skills slowly - in time you will learn how certain foods behave, as well as how your own oven, pans, utensils, appliances etc cope under varying circumstances. Don't ever be daunted by thinking " Ohh that looks too complicated, I couldn't possibly cook that ". Don't be put off if you make mistakes, and you can always come here for advice if you're uncertain about something.
Maybe make a goal of each week cooking something you haven't tried before, think of how many things you'll learn by the ened of a year" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Now totally DEBT FREE !~0 -

MrsM-I was thinking I should have "first breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses....."
Still no new job, so I'm trying to avoid going food shopping (where the chocolate and cake will tempt me) and using what I have in the house. Breakfast was weetabix and a third of a tin of mandarins. Lunch is going to be something warm as I'm really quite chilly, so either soup or baked spud. I'm not sure about dinner though.

Afternoon everyone
Don't know why..but im feeling rather chipper....
Well i had brekky - went down into the cellar rooms.... and fettled the laundry room and the one next to it... the 3rd i ignore as its where hubby stores all his army kit... boxes n boxes of the blooming stuff.... although i did look in on the way past (wish i hadn't:eek: )and feel i may end up in there sorting soon... hubby has a chair down there..comes in the front door down there and gets his kit off -saves him traipsing through the place leaving a trail of destructionand then in a morning he goes down there to put his uniform on - so as not to disturb me
-although he does pop in to kiss me goodbye... can't say im always aware of the fact :rotfl: .... anyway the laundry room is lovely and i have sorted out the area where i have started storing potatoes, onions, apples milk etc ready for the hopefully really snowy winter - fingers crossed.... like snow on my birthday
Heck you know its bad when im prowling around the place looking for house work :rotfl: .... don't know what has got into me... could be the fact that it beats that "E" word.. you know the one.... and its weigh day tomorrow..think there are quite a few of us :T
My afternoon of xstitch went belly up as next door neighbour asked if i could sit with the little one until his dad got back for his lunch and she would be back before he left for work again ..... only she wasn't.. so hubby had to dash round and ask me if i could sit with him again as he was late for work... so thats one unhappy hubby  ....and thats before he gets home and finds out all the gubbins she has been buying  so i missed lunch... although i was offered sweets, cake, crisps or biccies  ... which i passed on :j ... so just got back at 4pm prepared dinner (stuck chicken in oven before i went out-thank god) and have eaten quite a few lumps of raw carrot, celeriac and swede whilst i was at it..oh and the cog out of the cabbagebut my dinner will be very much appretiated tonight
...
I have done extra chicken as i have promised hubby a vat of chicken n sweet corn soup..... don't want tears do we :rotfl:
Madmae.... well done on staying the same.. im really lucky i don't suffer with my TTOTM just retaining water and getting an ache in the back of one shoulder blades at the mo... but i have definitely noticed a huge improvement since i removed most of the proccessed stuff in my diet...and i didn't eat that much in the first place..... i hope you will notice an improvement too... guess your body isn't meant to cope with lots of synthetic fats, sugars etc.... hope you feel a bit perkier soon...and keep up the good work :T
Rockie..thats one heck of a commute..... I know its not ideal, but could you take a little something extra with you so that you have something to snack on whilst stuck on the bus... just to hold of the hunger pangs whilst you get in...
Kittyscarlett... its a good job no-one comes between me and my food ..im awful tempered when im hungry... only thing worse is if anyone dare wake me up.. not pretty :rotfl:
cazzdevil.. I agree with kittyscarlett... there is nothing wrong with what you are doing.... i have told myself that i can have anything if i truely want it.. its just a case of balancing what you eat.. and to me - broth followed by a bit of pud sounds great... and you won't feel deprived and end up eating a huge portion.... so well done....
Im an ex WWer..many times over plus various other "diets" and adjusting to not picking low fat everything was a revelation for me....... my biggest problem with WW used to be that you were supposed to eat all or most of your points. so even if i wasn't hungry i would think "but i have 6 points left" and so end up eating even more....now i eat when im hungry without any pressure...
Thats it Toonie... we want some lembass bread - one tiny nible fill a grown mans stomach.... we are obviously hobbits..anyone who hasn't seen the films will think im tapped :rotfl:
Hello frogga are you talking to us again.....knew you couldn't stay away from us for long:T
Nodwah.. don't worry about posting 1000... it may turn into a game now.. see who can beat frogga to 2000 :rotfl: -only joking frogga;)
well i have to confess to having the latest WW and SW mags... but only as hubby got them as a treat.. he knew it was sport all weekend so picked me them up to take in the bath with me.... he knows me well
..the success stories are good for boosting moral... i did a quiz in one about emotional eating and im "an ANGRY eater"... tis true
tell me i can't have.. and watch me eat 2 out of spite... although i now know i was only spiting myself..so it has stopped :T
OOOPPS sorry this has turned into another marathon ramble - sorry ladies n gents
Well after my dinner im going to have a long hot soak and thats about it :T
will get off now...is that cheering i can hear? :rotfl:
Have a good evening all-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Ooo. Another spooky almost twin thing MrsM - I LOVE the core of a raw cabbage !! Its got a lovely nutty flavour. Frankly, I'd rather eat that than the rest of it cooked, LOL. I also get very grumpy and resentful if things or people get in the way of me eating - sadly that happens very frequently, at least up until most mid afternoons. Well done for turning down the chocs and biccies today !
Re the low fat thing - seesawed on that for years esp. with having gall bladder out. Now tastewise I prefer the lower or reduced fat version of some things - like cream cheese, greek yoghurt, mayonnaise etc - whilst relaxing about some other things - I now mostly use butter and small amounts of it in preference to " low fat spread " as I feel its more natural - I do keep a tub of reduced fat Lurpak in the fridge, whereas before I would have gone through that in under a week, now its been there about 10 days and barely half used ! I also use whole milk because I prefer the taste. But I rarely fry things, quite a lot of the soups I make I make directly with stock and don't bother sweating the onions etc, and they taste great. It's swings and roundabouts
So, today wasn't too bad, bit weird foodwise LOL. My brunch at 11.30 a.m. was hm cheese and onion pasty, a big tomato, 2 dill pickles and a mini bagel with jamyeah yeah, I know :P Midafternoon I had 2 rice cakes with ham, a banana, some strawberries, a packet of quaver and a small pack of Maltesers ( was very grumpy re stupid woman not turning up to collect breadmaker AGAIN, meaning I wasted most of my afternoon - damn rude seeing as I'm giving the damn thing away ). Managed to talk myself out of napping, did most of the washing up and cooked chicken breasts in the oven with a bit of butter - delish - decided couldn't be bothered tonight with prepping veg for roast/steaming so had jacket potato and cress, celery, radishes, carrot and tomatoes instead. Will likely have the rest of the strawberries and a yoghurt for supper if I have any room !

Must be psychic MrsM :T I had to go out for stuff for work this morning so I nipped in the health food shop (as you do) and bought some Nairns baked oat crisps - gorgeous!:DHad a bag on the bus to stave off the pangs - fruit doesn't do it for me but these did!!
Had my pasta, pesto and squash for tea and am now comfortably full :T
I've decided to revert back to the train next week, it means I have to do a bit more walking but cuts my travelling time down to an hour, it costs quite a bit more but it will mean that I'm still sane when I get home0 -
I took the children to McDonalds today and decided to be good and opt for a salad. But when I read the calorie and fat content on it it was more than if I'd had a big mac and chips. Wish I'd had that now2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Hi Gals, Beautiful day today so J & I went for a wonder. Went to the main library - had such a good time, the place is stuffed with diet books. Didn't bother with them just got 'The Victory Cookbook', Marguerite Patten who I think is a wonderful cook. Got me thinking, we constantly hear how well Brits ate during the war - so why can't we do the same ls now? If you admit to loving cooking (I do) some folk seem to think you are daft, and yet they say how everyone will be fat in 2050?
Anyways, salmon wellington tonight (filo pastry) and make big pan of leek, spud and chickpea soup for tomorrow. Got in a size 18 jacket today & it does up!! I have donated my awful yucky brown cardie to the cats :A to sleep on (no hanging on to anything in case).Keep going Gals and break a leg Mrs M....
