How are you ensuring your savings aren't 'losings' as Martin puts it, with the inflation rate standing at 2.7%?

By putting your money in accounts where the interest rate is greater than 2.7% :) All of my savings are earning between 3% and 5%.

I know it's a bit late but any chance I could be added to the challenge SF?

    Aiming for £3K for 2017 (may-dec)

    Many thanks:D

  • Late update for March and April,

Things went a little mental at work for a while and getting all the numbers together dropped off the list of priorities for a bit. Things have settled down a little now, but I'm definitely considering my options as between the 60mile round trip and the 50 odd hour work weeks there isn't currently a lot of time to spare.

    Anyway, the numbers:
    March - £840
    April - £1900

bringing my total for the year so far to £4500 which is only £500 under target which I'm pretty happy with.

May is proving to be quite expensive with some hefty flights booked for a friend's wedding in June (£260 return) as my boyfriend's time off finally got approved and some lovely people leaving work so lots of pub nights and leaving presents.

Well done to everyone, some fantastic numbers there!

    Hi all,

Last SO has just gone out for this month, so I am declaring

    £1525

Not as high as other months, as I have opened up a few regular savers and now having to split my money further, I have a maturing Regular Saver mid June so that should give me some wriggle room.

I have also two expiring balance transfers to sort out which will come from the maturing regular saver accounts, then I will start again.

Hope all is well with all, and we are still saving hard, its amazing how it all adds up.

Onwards and upwards we are nearly into the half way stage....

Made my £1000 target but living off savings in month two of unemployment. Got interview today in my field so god chance but you never know and it's a decent salery too which is unusual for my sector. Fingers crossed I get it and next month I can make up the £250 I'm behind. Well done all and thanks to slowly fading for updating us all.

    Hello everyone,
Another not so brilliant month for me so only £570, was aiming for double this. Clearly dreaming :)
Hopefully nothing massive comes up over the next couple of months, fingers crossed.
Some amazing numbers from everyone in the last couple of months. Well done guys!

  • hi

#85 creeping in with head hanging in shame for not posting regularly...

I've got a bit lost with what months the money has come in, but if you could put £3300 in for April that will reconcile to my records.

Thank you, and I'll try to be better at posting in future :)

  • £1100 in for May, thanks Slowly :)

I'm in the middle of decorating, so the next couple of months will be expensive with new carpet and a wooden floor planned. I've spent £75 just on undercoat! And if I get the lights I really want that will be £750

Very late update for April £1208 made entirely of my bonus from the last 18 months. Was on holiday this month in Orlando so spent all my usual savings there, but also bought a Go Pro and one of our wedding rings so I'm happy!

May update much healthier, £2113, probably the most I'll save in any one month this year since payroll messed up my payslip and have paid me my extra wages rather than it going in my pension so I'll be short on savings next month as they're going to take double the contribution to make up for it.

It would be cool to get a grand total of how much the whole thread has saved over the year once we're all done!
