What a shocking start to 2017. As the OH starts on SMP the clutch goes on the car . I can see me posting negative for my first month on the board. But that's what emergency savings are there for I suppose. You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. But to ignore the future is foolish - living solely for the moment leaves nothing for when the next moment arrives.0

a saving of £25 from #130 thank you :-)
Hi fire-wannabe,
It's fine if you want to regularly post how much you are saving in the thread but to get it into the running totals spreadsheet (link in post 1) you need to submit the google update form for January (that is also linked-to from post1) - with a couple of hundred of us posting, simplyfading has no chance of keeping up if we don't do this.
I thought as you (and several others) are brand new to the forums, it might help to explain.
Good luck

Just popping in now that I've settled the 2016 thread.
It took me a long time to get to my first real job so have a lot of catching up to do, but since September 2015 have managed to accrue a total of just over 10K in savings and have finally sorted out my pension contributions (which are now being built up at £375 per month). My cash fund is now almost where I want it, so I'll be building that up more slowly and also starting to put some into an S&S ISA.
I've set myself a ridiculous target of 12K this year (currently only take home £1300 pcm) so there's no way I'll reach it without a decent raise and alternative means of income, but I like a challenge.
The overall aim is to reduce my outgoings and increase earnings. There isn't much excess in the budget to trim away except commuting cost which is currently costing me about £240 a month! I'll also be looking at switching energy companies and might do a few 'dry' months but otherwise don't have any plans to decrease expenditure.
January will be expensive as I'm visiting family in the Netherlands mid month and have just booked the tickets (very last minute decision) and I'll need to spend a chunk to get my car fixed so the total will be small.
After that I'm planning to sort out my commute to save money in the long run (easier with a car). If I can get at least 2 people sharing the commute then I can reduce the cost from around £240 a month to around £80 a month.
After January we should get into a nice rhythm and the totals should start to increase.

Happy new year everyone!
Reference point for 2017 is a starting balance of £12,976.79 currently spread across FD Regular, Nationwide Regular, TSB Regular, TSB Classic Plus, Bank of Scotland Vantage and Tesco.
With a £12k target for 2017 that makes my end of year savings target £24,976.79.
The January visa bill is going to make an initial dent in my efforts, hopefully to be partially offset by participating in Dry January (I need to; if I have another month like December I don't think I'll survive!)

I can't see my name on the list. I originally asked to be added for £7,000, but can I change that to £5,000. Things are not looking too good at this moment in time.0
