Hi all,
We've been renting our 2 bed ground floor flat since November 09 and only been able to use the main bedroom from beginning of April due to the damp and mould in there. Landlord eventually got it sorted but now I keep finding slugs in the bathroom and kitchen! its really disgusting, I'll see one every other day , either in the bath tub, wall or floor and also find them by the washing machine in the kitchen. We've salted the area but can't keep doing that with a toddler and a 5 year old. It really does make my skin crawl and i hate using the bathroom now.
Where are they coming from ? and is it because of the damp prob? poor plumbing maybe? You reckon the Landlord would fix the prob for us?0 -
So far I've heard pretty grim stuff. But I've been living with a slug infestation for 5 years. they are everywhere. I've tried copper, salt, pellets, beer, chucking them in the water, blocking up floorboards, pest control usually dont class slugs as a pest or just have no idea how to get rid. The reason I have never won over the slimey critters is - I live on a boat and they live in my bilges, which I cannot block as they let any water drain out at various points on the boat, engine, water tank, etc etc.
I have a cat and they love his food. I have all food in containers and never let any out. I have to put all pasta and flour in hard plastic containers or they eat through the packaging. Once I went on holiday and within 2 weeks they'd eaten a whole packet of spagetti bleeeugh. But I can't put my cats food away. Tonight I couldn't sleep and got up - found 8 large slugs on his foodI just can't see the end of it - as when I get rid of loads, the little ones start coming then they go for a month or two before re appearing - they are breeding at such a rate I just can't win. Are there any scientist out there who have a miracle cure? Really good to hear other people talk about it and please keep giving advice.:T

I also have slugs in my kitchen - I use salt on them. When we let the dog out before we go to bed I find them coming up from a loose patio slab. I boil a kettle & pour the water over them. i also konw they;re coming up from the sink plug hole.0

Hello,
I have found slug trails in my hall that seem to be coming from my cupboard under the stairs. They only come out at night as I never see them during the day. I found one huge one the other night. How can I get rid of them without making a mess? Can i call pest control?
I am absolutely terrifed of slugs and snails and always have been!
Thanks

Put down some slug killer, or a salt barrier. Hardly worth the cost of calling in a pest control company just for slugs.
They do only come out at night to feed. Your hall cupboard is probably nice and damp and dark, which is what they like.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've got exactly the same problem as you so I would also be grateful of any advice anyone can give. No signs of any slugs in the house during the day but tell tale silver trail in the morning.
There are slugs in the garden but our chickens seem to take care of them and I didn't want to use slug pellets out there because of the chickens and the dog.I've worked in the Financial Services industry for the last 25 years. Thanks. If I put slug pelllets they will explode all over the cupboard won't they?
Same with salt barrier?
I was hoping I could get pest control from the council to come for free? ;-)0 -
I also have 4 kittens so I would not be happy using slug pellets - fine in the garden but not in the house.
Any traps I could use?
They are seriously freaking me out - haven't been in that cupboard since I found the trails...0 -
Slugs in the house are a sign of damp... they can only crawl/live where there is damp, so I would try to find the source of damp. We had them in our kitchen because there was damp caused by leaking pipes and a rotten iron waste pipe. Sorted those and the slugs disappeared.0

Horrible things - but poor you - in the house...
Agree - slug pellets (widely available) will attract them (to injest) and then kill them but you have to (er) remove the bodies. Get someone who doesn't have your fear of them to organise. You also need to establish why you have them - maybe attached to wellies or such like and brought into your house.
Ps. they don't explode rather the opposite (at least the stuff I use).0
