just to let you know you are not alone.
i get the odd slug in my kitchen too but we have a mutual understanding that they stay on the lino and i just have to live with it.

(i agree salt might work but it sounds so cruel- surely a shallow up with beer is better)

We get them in our conservatory too, we've used builders foam around all the joints but the odd one still manages to get in under the door. To reduce the chance of them coming sprinkle slug pellets around outside the house.

Had a problem with that myself. I believe they are coming up the from the drain where the sink water goes and entering through the sink or the tap. I have managed to reduce this occurrence by remembering to put the plug in the sink at night and block off the tap with a bottle lid.

I also occasionally find slug trails in the living room but I have floorboards in there with a cellar beneath which has an air vent to the outside so that is easily explained.

    Horrid creatures!

I had a few slugs last year because I used some potting compost to top up some potted plants. The compost had been in an open bag outside and obviosly had lots of baby slug eggs or whatever in them. A few weeks after topping up the plants I noticed slug trails and worked out they had been in the compost! Some beer in a jar lid sent them on their way!

Eeeek...I've got a slug, (or slugs ), in my car..... icon9.gif

Think it comes from transporting veggies to various friends and rellies. Have put down slug pellets and conducted a search and a thorough clean three times now but still, every morning, there is a snail trail all over the seats and floor. Makes me feel quite ill as I am very squeamish. Any ideas?? Don't really want to pay for a full valet service if I can avoid it. :o

As mentioned above, some beer in a shallow container like a jar lid, place in footwell overnight and they will die happy.
  • I am not alone! I feel all your pain and yukkies. I too have walked the bare foot cring, of steping on one after having a bath.owwweii

dish washer or rock salt in my air bricks works for a short time. The beer is for me to steady my nerves!!

I have a baby so Im up through the night to get milk etc from the kitchen.
In the past 3 weeks Iv had 4 slugs on the kitchen floor, all on seperate times.
What may cause these? And where would they come from? I do have a back door in the kitchen but as far as I can see theres no holes or ways in.
How do I stop them? HELP!!

Find where they are coming in, fill it with gallons of salt & repair hole/gap.

Look around all edges of the room.
  • I have exactly the same problem.
They can make themselves paper thin and slide under the door. I've also had problems with them coming in under the skirting board.
I use gallons of salt and copper wiring. It seems to work but you do get the odd rogue one. Believe it or not, its very common.
