SLUGS in THE HOUSE - UUURRRGGGHH (merged threads)

  • We had this in our old married quarter (military). They were coming in from the back of the house and crawling all over the kitchen. It makes me sick now just thinking about it so it must be bloody awful for you too. We put a line of salt at the skirting all around the house and that seemed to do the trick - they won't cross it and it is safer than slug pellets to other animals.

    Hope you get it sorted

Yes, salt works as well but you will have to replace it each time it rains, which is when the blighters are most likely to appear.

    Slugs like the damp :D
They are not going to make an appearance in a dry environment.
So after playing with the pellets or the salt or roping in the dog
I would look for the underlying damp!

You could use pellets like these. They are available in the usual places, Homebase, B&Q etc and are meant to be safe for children and pets. Obviously don't encourage your children to eat them :p

I think any iron/ferrous based pellet is deemed safe.

  • my guess would be under the front door, but being wonderful climbers check around window frames etc.
The point of entry is the important thing. It needs blocking then no need for pellets.

    Copper. They don't like copper.

We put the line of salt inside the house! just by all the doors and skirting boards. I admit it didn't look great but we only had to do it for a short time. They never came back

    I hope you get sorted

They probably moved in now. I have a family of these things I'm gradually getting rid of. One place they liked was the kitchen sink overflow, and there are a few left under skirtingboards I think...hard to tell apart from the trails as they stay home at daytime.

I hate to kill anything, so I have made surprise 2am visits and picked them up so far, put them in a wild patch of ground nearby.

A few days ago I dedided that I have done my best and the rest need to go now by any means before they breed which they do in large numbers.

A clean and deep container with an inch of beer left overnight caught 6 so far. ..just left where the trails appear.

My little cat puked one up a few days ago while I was eating brekkie...not something to help your appetite, so they had their holiday and it's war now sadly.

They love beer, but it drowns them....with kids you'd need to pick it up early AM ..but if it catches any they wouldn't be drinking it I think anyway.

You can do that with a wide strip of cardboard, double sided sticky tape on it ..and sprinkled with salt. ..then you can take it away during the day. Did me no good as they had already moved in
