SLUGS in THE HOUSE - UUURRRGGGHH (merged threads)

Hello!
I recently moved into a Victorian terraced house, and have noticed slug trails in the morning in our living room. I’ve tried loads of things without success to stop them – and I absolutely hate the thought of them in my house at night, but what I am slightly more concerned about is WHY they are coming in. The house has air vents which is the only way they could get in, and then I assume they slither up through the floorboards (as I don’t have carpets). The house doesn’t feel in anyway damp and there was damp proofing carried out 4 years ago – but does the fact that the slugs come in mean that it is damp underneath the house?0 -
we have them in our Victorian terrace they get in through a air brick into electric cupboard. I just put a line of salt in there keeps them out when i see trails put down more salt0

we also have them in our victorian terrace (im sensing a pattern) mine always seem to be by the dishwasher but havent yet found exactly where they come from.Making a change in 20130

Its disgusting isn't it. I've tried absolutely everything and the !!!!!!s still manage to slither in.
I just don't understand why though and I'm worried that it means that there is damp problem in my house!0 -
They don't like copper. So if you can find an entry point and surround it with copper, that should stop them coming in - and stop those that are in from going out.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I live in a victorian house. I have found that when the house was updated (not by me!) things like the gas pipe route etc were not sealed proberly so there are gaps. Its probably a combination of the air brick and pipe route gaps etc causing this.
On the air brick you could try the mesh type covers as a slug would not get through them. For pipe routes, follow them to the point of exit and use expanding foam. Saves having to routinly re-salting the place and is probably in the long run more enviromentally friendly and cheaperYNWA

Good plan, I'll try the mesh idea. Will that not restrict air flow though?0

I had a major problems with slugs in my first house which was also a Victorian terraced - even had them in the kitchen draws crawling over cutlery. Nothing worked - salt - they just went round it, I put a copper band down, but they just went over it with no ill effect to them. The problem was solved in the end when someone nailed a piece of wood to the bottom of the backdoor (which lead into the kitchen)0

Salt the floor that will get rid of them. Go and get a big bag and cover the floor.Kind Regards
