Speeding on motorway

What difference does that make.
When calculating the speeding cars speed they measure a fixed distance and the time it took the speeding car to cover that distance.
The distance is fixed regardless of the time it takes the police car to travel it.0 -
rule #1 for speeding, make sure you're not the fastest speeder. The traffic police will always go after the biggest culprit.
Also traffic police are humans they will cut you some slack if you spot them and slow down immediately (shows you have some peripherial awareness at least). But if you carry on speeding it shows that you are oblivious to your surroundings and carry on.
I was doing 85ish and notice a 4wd police interceipt parked up on a hill on the side of the motorway, immediately hit the brakes and reduced it down to 70.
Didn't hear anything from police in ages.
They fact that the roads were clear yet you did not see traffic police just digs you deeper.
The speeds you were doing is automatic court summons, there is no roadside judgement on that. If you were speeding more reasonably like 85mph you may have got fixed penalty points and fine.0 -

The distance is "fixed" by the police cars computer by measuring the distance the trailing car travels .
It is a matched reading, the trailing car has to maintain a constant distance.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Go to court, be super apologetic, and cross your fingers. But I suspect 6 points and a fine (and in your case a test retake) - that's what happened to my BIL who was caught by a mobile unit doing 96 on the M62.0

You argument is open to debate. Autobahns were built about the same time as ours although they were conceived in the 1920s. They have no speed limit but some stretches do have limits like urbanised areas. I recall driving to Denmark through Germany in the 70s just about squeezing 95mph out of my car when a Porche changed from a small dot in my rear-view mirror to flashing past me in seconds. The 70mph was introduced in this country in the mid 60s when cars were built without all the safety features today's modern cars have.
Personally I think the 70mph is below the speed at which motorway driving should be especially when driving long distances.
The argument on safety is negated by German statistics:
In 2014, autobahns carried 31% of motorized road traffic while accounting for 11% of Germany's traffic deaths. The autobahn fatality rate of 1.6 deaths per billion-travel-kilometers compared favorably with the 4.6 rate on urban streets and 6.5 rate on rural roads.
I suggest you borrow the target of your spleen's old tin hat.
I spend a lot of time in Germany, and the lack of a speed limit is a myth. The majority of German Autobahn are regulated to 120 and 130km/h. Some are only regulated at certain hours, but they also enforce a proximity to the next car limit by camera. And yes, it is enforced. My brother in law got caught by them twice after denying the existence of cameras to enforce safe following distances.0 -
Hi. Yesterday about 9am i was pulled over for doing 97 on a motorway with limit of 70.
I know it was silly. I was in a rush and roads were clear. Only a few other cars every now and then. I overtook a car doing around 80-85 then didnt drop my speed.
I got a slip from the police officer with the code sv77011.
Nothing was said at what would happen. Any ideas?
I have had license for under 2 years and its clean. I never speed always well within the limit.
I wouldn't use the never speed argument in court, you might just raise a heckle and a snigger. You can by all means ask for advice on pepipoo on how best to handle this, even though you have no defence. It is not unheard of for new drivers to be given a short ban to subvert the legislation, but it is expressly against the advice to magistrates and so is incredibly rare.
Get in some lessons to make sure you are still at test standard, you can drive to and from the court and until you receive the letter from the DVLA informing you that your licence has been revoked, which is the most likely result with 6 points being imposed. There has been one poster on pepipoo that used a lawyer and succeeded in convincing a court to ban him, but that was a rarity. I think he found a hens tooth after.
This will definitely impact your insurance going forward too. How important was the journey? I hope it was worth the most likely cost to you.0 -

The safe driving distance is much more important than the actual speed IMO. Far too many times on the overtaking lane all these cars are tailgating each other with distance that you would ideally have at 30-40mph. It is quite hair raising when I see this, if there is a sudden slowdown in traffic you could expect a huge pile up.
I think it comes down to motorway capacity. the m1 should be a 5 lane motorway at the very least right now. This means the highways agency has to manage the motorway by have 40/50/60mph zones and have people tailgaiting each other for 4 hour stretches. Really really danbgerous and no wonder there are always accidents which adds 2hr delays for all motorists.0 -

There's no problem with that so I hope you're not suggesting it as a defence?0 -

You're confusing defence and mitigation.
Defence is when you plead not guilty. Mitigation is when you plead guilty, but ask for a lower sentence.
The OP has no defence, since he is not suggesting he was not exceeding the limit. He can plead guilty and ask for a "Newton hearing" to argue that the speed was lower than measured, but that could be expensive and nothing he has said suggests the police were wrong, or that he has any evidence.0
