Even though motorways were designed for 100mph the current police state doesn't allow it and you will lose your licence and have to retake the extended test. Sorry.

No he won't. If he gets 6 points, and his licence is revoked, he simply has to pass the normal tests.

The extended test is for those banned for dangerous driving etc.

What a stupid and pointless comment. The majority of UK motorways were designed and built in the 60s and 70s when there was far fewer cars on the road. There are very few occasions today when you can safely drive at 100mph on our motorways without putting somebody, least of all yourself, at risk. "Current police state" indeed, I suggest you get a new tin foil hat.

You will get best advice on any technicality defences you may be able to do if you take this to pepipoo

He'll have to raise a defence to get advice though.

You'll be VERY lucky indeed to get a 3pt/£100 FPN, and no way will you get a course. So it's going to be a day in court. Hang your head and be very, very sorry - if you get six points, you're back on L-plates.
I never speed always well within the limit.

Why say that? You know it's not true. We know it's not true. The policeman who caught you red-handed has proof that it's not true.

You argument is open to debate. Autobahns were built about the same time as ours although they were conceived in the 1920s. They have no speed limit but some stretches do have limits like urbanised areas. I recall driving to Denmark through Germany in the 70s just about squeezing 95mph out of my car when a Porche changed from a small dot in my rear-view mirror to flashing past me in seconds. The 70mph was introduced in this country in the mid 60s when cars were built without all the safety features today's modern cars have.

Personally I think the 70mph is below the speed at which motorway driving should be especially when driving long distances.

The argument on safety is negated by German statistics:
In 2014, autobahns carried 31% of motorized road traffic while accounting for 11% of Germany's traffic deaths. The autobahn fatality rate of 1.6 deaths per billion-travel-kilometers compared favorably with the 4.6 rate on urban streets and 6.5 rate on rural roads.

I suggest you borrow the target of your spleen's old tin hat.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

  • They are defences to mitigate, you need the video from the police cars camera, it is not unknown for them to measure the distance and speed whilst gaining distance on the target car.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

There is no safety argument. He isn't being charged with dangerous driving. He isn't being charged with careless driving.
He's being charged with exceeding the speed limit.
He was doing 97. The limit is 70. 97 is a bigger number than 70. Guilty. End of.

I'm surprised the OP got the opportunity to get up to such speeds on our motorways :-)

The quality of driving by a high number of people on our motorways these days is terrible. The amount of people who sit in the outside lane doing 60-65mph when the road is clear in front of them is a joke.

I used to drive up and down the country daily for a living - I'd hate to have to do that these days.

I am not sure how the distance of the overall journey changes the overall safe speed of a road.

Newsflash, we don't have Autobahns in this country so your post is as irrelevant to the one I questioned.
