Hi all
You've probably noticed that I haven't been posting much - I've been having a bit of a mid-life crisissince my birthday (yes it was one of those milestone birthdays ending with a nought).
Believe it or not, it was all tied in with going to the gym. You'd think doing something so positive would have the opposite effect, but after my first week I gained a pound, then on the second week I maintained, and I was expecting the exercise to work miracles! Anyway, I went completely off the rails last weekend and it's taken me until today to find the track, but here I am back on the wagon again (is that a metaphor too many?)
So Day One today, and I might even find the courage to get on the scales tomorrow to find out how much damage has been done! I'm hoping it won't be too bad, because I haven't stopped going to the gym, so maybe I've maintained - keep your fingers crossed for me.
Interesting to read the theory about the connection between being overweight and disorganised - that's certainly not true of me as I'm known for being very organised, and I'm bordering on OCD where tidiness is concerned!
To demonstrate how obsessively organised I am, I shopped for my swap box last weekend, and had it wrapped and posted last Monday! I'm getting all excited about it now too and can't wait till the 30th when they're all opened. I wasn't worried about revealing my identity, so I put a card inside the parcel and my name and address on the outside.
This has turned into a much longer post than I intended, so I'll stop waffling on now.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Lois - you are extremely organised. I got the box yesterday morning. Thank you. I can't wait to find out what's in it.
It's quite funny actually. I was tiredand went back to bed after leaving DS in creche but I didn't want to sleep the morning away so I asked the Angels to make sure I woke up by 11.30. Boy, did they ever - The postman nearly battered down my door at precisely 11.30 yesterday morning with the swap box.
I'm sorry to hear that you've been going off the rails.I had thought that you were having problems dealing with the milestone birthday but didn't want to say incase I offended you. Welll, you're back on track now with day one almost over and done with. - I always think it's easier when you have the first "good" day behind you.
As for the link between being disorganised and overweight - is that not an urban myth? I always think that the most overweight people are the most obsessive about cleanliness and especially personal hygeine. I wouldn't leave the house every day without first having a showerand I use the strongest anti perspirant I can find. I guess it's partly paranoia too. I suppose people can be critical enough when they associate being overweight and lazy without giving them more ammuntion to hit you with.

No, it's not a myth, well known particularly in psychologist circles - both the weight and untidiness are symptoms.
But anyway, England lost so I am gutted, although we did well to get to the final in the first place. Didn't help that we went to Cafe Rouge to comiserate (can't even tell you what I had)
Oh well, life just gets in the way sometimes. To be honest, just really excited to be able to be out of the house and in such a large crowd - great atmosphere! Well done LL for getting back on the wagon, I shall be joining you in the morningThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

bails - I'm showing my ignorance here but - Symptoms of what?
I'm sorry your team didn't win guys, but you should be glad that you made it as far as the finals. I've been listening to the aftermath of the Ireland team's losses (apparently a lot of blame is being apportioned to their new style shirts- Seriously! oh - and their manager too.)
I don't know very much about sports, but why is it that the managers always get blamed for a teams poor performance? I mean - why is it not accepted that the team themselves performed poorly on the day or simply that the other team were better? Again, I'm showing my ignorance so, if I've insulted anyone please forgive me, but I'm happy to be enlightened.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -

Ooh, Pet and Delly, I had a feather turn up yesterday too!!
Okay Delly, I'll explain the theory, I hope noone takes offence from this as it is certainly not meant that way, just an explanation -
People often focus on their weight, for example, and say things like 'If only I was thin, then I'd be happy'. This makes the weight the 'problem' to be solved. Instead of this, the weight is actually a 'symptom' of something else ie there is another problem and it is showing itself through the excess weight/ untidiness etc. The key is to stop focusing on the symptom which is distracting you from the problem, and find out what the real issue is.
Please don't think I'm saying everyone on here is 'messed up' -far from it- but the idea is to look for the root cause rather than concentrate on the symptom. This could be as simple as boredom in one area of your life - by changing that your eating will naturally change for the better. I hope that makes sense - I'm sure all of you can relate to reaching for food for some emotional reason - boredom, frustration, anger, sadness etc - there could be a small reason or something that runs deeper. I think the symptoms are particularly pronounced in eating disorders (anorexics are anally tidy, compulsive/binge eaters are messy) but with all 'disordered' eating to some extent. [Please don't take offence by that term, most of the developed world have disordered eating in my book!]
Hope that makes sense, it is Sunday morning! Apologies for the sensitive nature of the topic, and I hope everyone is okay with this. There are of course many other reasons which contribute to weight gain - pregnancy, illness, medicine, learned behaviour, lack of knowledge, habit... I could go on but I'm sure you've heard enough by now!:rotfl:
Getting slightly worried now as I'm getting my swap box contents sent to me first - what happens if they don't get here soon? Don't worry, I'll hand deliver them to the recipient myself!:DThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Lois, just reread your post (I was an ickle bit tipsy last night, only takes one these days:D) - I'm sorry to hear about your mini crisis but am well impressed that you continued to go to the gym - you go, girl!:T
I hope the scales are kind to you this morning and even if they're not, you will soon be back on the straight and narrow. Keep logging on, it's not the same when 'regulars' like yourself go AWOL xx

It makes sense to me bails the counsellors always say if you have an argument say, it is not about that it is always about the more deep rooted long ago past history, the same with food, comfort eating, issues with food etc are not solely about that they are about how your mother made you eat, what was on the table, the reactions to it as a child, what was a luxury, the norm, whether you were rewarded for good behaviour with a certain food, or had food taken away for being naughty, it all stems from that and what we learn as children we take on in adult hood.0

This is SO true!!! It makes me worry about becoming a mum to be honest, I don't want to pass this stuff on... I think I know how to have a sensible approach to eating for my kids, but who knows if it'll be that easy when I get there... I'm sure some of you can tell me!The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000
