Someone asks a question about holiday abroad when on benefits;

I love the light moderation and freedom of speech we get here. But thats the price you have to pay when anyone can stick their oar in.
And this is what you get with one google search.
https://www.gov.uk/claim-benefits-abroad/illness-injury-and-disability-benefits
:beer:
Look - these two sites are like apples and pears.
One covers a whole range of topics and is lightly moderated and free - the other has a very narrow topic range, is heavily moderated and costs money. They should co-exist quite happily and people can make their choices based on their own experiences and wishes.
Personally, I wouldn't pay for access to a site like Benefits and Works because I think there are really good free resources out there with a much wider topic base as well - fwiw I am not a big fan of a lot of the advice on MSE . There are good and knowledgeable members but it can take a while to realise who they are. Some other advice can be a bit askew
But, I think I find the "pushing" of Benefits and Work on a sort of rival site slightly distasteful. I have no issues at all with B and W as a site. Not one I would use much., though0 -
I was thinking apples and oranges but you beat me to it ☺
Should have linked to the UC holiday thread. That one is on fire tonight.

Distasteful yes. Because JakiT posted a link to their newsletter JaKit was accused of working for B&W - even though he was copying their manuals and giving them away free. Then people were slagging off B&W so others were defending them. Which is more distasteful? Probably better if we just ignore all such posts but its hard not to respond sometimes.
PS: as for your weblink why look on other forums if they have got it all on that DWP website“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

The whole thing is iffy - but, to be honest, stepping away would have been a better play -it now feels like you are touting for members - and not very well. I think, with B and W, it isn't just about JakiT and what happened on this thread. As mentioned earlier, The Philanthropist has been this way before
I look on a number of forums because what I do, as a volunteer, is to help people with all sorts of problems and I like to be out and about catching up with the latest news and views. But when I am actually advising people then I stick to the tried and trusted (mostly free) resources
And, for clarity, that's the gov.uk I linked to - not the DWP one. There is a whole lot of of good information on there on a number of things - not just benefits. And, it's free.0 -

Rightsnet is another good resource. On the B&W link I posted the B&W moderator posted a link to Rightsnet from the B&W website without being accused of touting for members on rival site. Its just a pity we can't do that here.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

Sorry. I don't think you are touting for business - it just comes across that way. And, maybe, Rightsnet didn't have the same issues with a previous poster
I've just been having a look at B & W. I am not in any way having a go - interested that's all. It is very limited in the number of benefits it specialises in which I can understand - aiming at a particular audience. Must admit I'm a bit surprised that, given the information on PIP and DLA, it doesn't do the same for AA.
Do you know the thinking behind that? It is a genuine question - not in any way a dig!0
