I didn't know it was Dnms's birthday, Happy birthday Lovely! (Its my grandmothers 85th birthday today :) )
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
  • Hi and thanks for the birthday love! Been keeping it kinda secret this year! No one at work even knows! Had lovely dinner out with dd and dgd last night and going to visit ds and his gf in their new flat tonight. Seems terribly grown up to be setting up home with gf! Just got back from a spa with friend.

Very excited that oh got me a food processor! Planning to quickly tidy up, make a irish coffee then tinker around processing :-) picked up a ys whole chicken and also lidl bacon offer (nipped into sm to get oil to make hummus )

Don't think I cba to do much else. Will get getting a meal and gift from ds (honestly can't truly accept my 2 babies are actual grown ups now! My dd made such an effort last night, taking me out, nice conversation - she's really well atm. Long gone are the days when I gave up expecting anything from either of them as it just caused disappointment when they didn't make an effort. Funny it has been quite quick from deciding I didn't mind cos I knew they loved me to now making a huge effort to show they love and appreciate me)

Okay going to go and be a middle age lush!

    Evening all :)
    Happy Birthday DNMS :bdaycake: :D
Nice bright day today, chilly and windy, but at least we saw the sun :)
    My list for today:
No heating on downstairs till it was time to light the stove
    Nothing spent :D
Braved using my elderly washing machine after its meltdown last week  It was fine :) Dried all the bedding and towels outside, enough just to go in the airing cupboard :D
Made the difficult decision to consign a load of business stock to auction - I will make a loss on it, but my business has changed, I no longer have the space for large items, and it is better gone. At least I will get some of the money back, and I have learned an awful lot since I bought it! And it is no longer in my spare bedroom /loft/ garage :T
Started to sort out remaining stock  I have given up for today, but must sort it out tomorrow as my eldest grand daughter will be using the spare bedroom tomorrow night!
HM meals from stores, we have chicken drumsticks roasted with fridge bottom veg tonight :D
Sold 4 items on ebay, still need to get these packed!
Kettle on stove for 'free' drinks etc
Read meters and entered readings on energy company's web site.
Right, dinner, then ebay parcel packing!

Hello Friday Frugalistas (& the Frugal Birthday Girl, of course!)
Had a Dr's appointment in the middle of the day, but have achieved a few vaguely money saving bits & pieces today:
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Finished writing our Christmas cards.......most of which were bought from charity shops in the January sales. Dug around in my writing box & found 2 stamps, so that's 2 less I shall be buying.
*Started knitting another pair of baby socks with some of my left over sock yarn. Really finding it satisfying knitting up my stash & making new things from stuff I've already got. It keeps me out of wool shops where I can get spendy. If I have enough leftover sock yarn to knit a pair of baby socks, I'm doing those first, then all the even littler scraps are going into my blanket squares.
*Decided not to shop till Sunday as mr f has to work tomorrow & I shan't have the car. So have added 'Saturday freezer dive' to this week's meal plans.
*New radiator (bought with £300 of our precious loan pay-down fund) has been programmed by mr f & we are currently testing it out. It certainly seems to be making a difference (our house doesn't have central heating)....but if we don't think it's as good as advertised, it will be going back.
*And the biggest money saving thing today? NOT SUCCUMBING TO BLACK FRIDAY!! Apart from £1 in the car park machine for my Dr's visit, I can honestly say that I have not spent a single penny today.
*mr f was working at a venue where he usually visits Costas, but today he remembered to take a travel mug with him, plus a coffee bag for his other break.
Thanks for all your kind wishes about my current health issues. My blood pressure's come down a bit & one of my scan results has come back clear, but the scans I'm most worried about are not till next week. It's definitely better if I keep busy, so suffice it to say that tomorrow when mr f is working, I have a packed day lined up.
    Love from F xx
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Maria - Sorry to hear that. It must be tough when you are carrying the practicalities of the financial worries to find that such a lot of money has been intercepted. I'd find that very difficult to deal with. I have a spectacular temper & I know I'd lose it. I don't know what to say, really - it just seems very unfair. Tough financial times for so many people at the moment, & it doesn't help when these are not tackled as a team.
I hope you're finding a few moments now & again for your quilting, as a little bit of 'me-time'

Ooooh, just another little thing. I have had enquiries from people (past customers) about buying some more of my hand knitted socks - no time to knit them until new year, but I charge around £16/£17 for an adult pair & can knit them easily while watching TV or chatting so will probably go ahead with taking the orders.

Foxgloves, I did my usual thing of deleting emails today and nearly every email was someone offering something as a Black Friday deal. Now these days I usually just hit delete without opening, however this morning I thought I can't just delete it, I might be missing something good..... :idea: Then I remembered I have bought everything I need (apart from food) for Christmas so I deleted anyway :) :T:A:A:A
I did however go into B&m's for a planned shop as I wanted coffee pod things and hot chocolate and because it was Black Friday I got 10 % off so Black Friday was a good thing for me today :)

Your hand knitted socks are beautiful Foxgloves. Hope you can keep your mind at ease until the tests.
