What small DFW things will you do this week? W/C 21/11

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money::money:

    Hello :wave:

    Thanks for starting us off Ziggy :A

    I'm so glad I have you lot in my life keeping me sane with family and friends spending thousands at Christmas! :eek: Also for me it's the sheer amount of stuff that I have issue with - with my in laws (who don't go overboard money-wise) it's like they need to get as many things as possible for their budget - rather than buying 1 decent thing they will buy 5 cheap things..and then more cheap things 2 months later because the last cheap things have broken or they weren't exactly what they wanted in the first place.

    Car is in for its first MOT today - eek!

    Need to sort car insurance today - got a deal for £25 cashback off cheapest quote so happy about that.

    Also need to sort mobile a/c - can downgrade to sim only today for £6 a month rather than £16. :T

    Signed up for Clearscore yesterday - also have Noddle but was good to cross check as for some reason car finance didn't show up on Noddle...

    Need to look into sister's bday pressie again...but may wait until I am in town tomorrow.

    Watching something on ebay - £60 in the shops and has a starting bid of 99p - probably too good to be true as it's got 6 days left but a girl can dream!

    Then it's just general sorting out shenanigans - staying in (and not working job #1 or #2 - boo) because I'm still feeling poorly.

    Take care everyone!
  • Good morning chums,

    Back to it this weekend and hopefully I'll rack another 5 NSD's in a row. I had a super in depth and serious talk with my mum about buying a place and saving up so I feel even more determined to cut costs where possible.

    With that in mind, my list for today;

    - Check banks and YNAB
    - Have a NSD
    - Bring lunch and snacks to work
    - Charge phone at work
    - Exercise
    - Drink plenty water
    - Read a bit more of my book
    - Have a productive day in work

    Have a nice day everyone :)

    Morning everyone :) Thanks Ziggy for starting us off this week! La E I hope your car passes the MOT OK! :) Today is my due date but no sign of baby! I feel big and tired though so don't think I'll be leaving the house today, a nice chill out day I think! My list for today:

    - B/L/D from home

    Morning all :hello: thanks for starting us off ziggy

    No sign of that baby yet Katy-ann

    Wet, grey and dark here - am glad I'm not commuting today and WFH, that said I need to pop out so have lots to do:

    Go to Mr T and use two vouchers for free items that expire today - free big bag of apples, big bag of pears and 2 chicken breast :D plus a few other bargains - also £4 off a £20 spend - total cost 16 (including a £6 thermal hat for DH) :D
    Go to gym for a run, to damp and too cold to run outside today, showered there and dried hair there
    Left over roast dinner for lunch
    HM cake for snack
    Messaged someone on fleabay who was selling an item that I just wanted the parts for (can't get from supplier anymore) he said I could just cover postage as the item didn't sell :T what a kind person - saved us about £150 buying a new item :D
    washing on airer
    update spreadsheet, moved £5 banking c/b bonus to savings - I likely won;t get it next month as every time I have tried to used my contactless card this month its not worked, sill try again today
    Hibernate as early as I can tonight ;) - got uber soaked on school run so all clothes went in machine when I got home, lovely excuse to put PJs on ;)
    Delivery birthday present if I can
    Check surveys, FPL and banking

    Right off to do some work for a bit :)

    Good morning all & thanks Ziggy for the start.

    Katy-Ann, with my first child, I went into labour on my due date so fingers crossed you don't have long to wait! Exciting times.
    La E, get well soon
    Speky, you sound very focused :)
    PF, That was good re:fleabay :) Nice to hear of peoples kindest :)

    Today's list
    * Kids breakfast consisted of.... 1 crust of bread, 1 sandwich thin & 1 fruit toastie shared between them. :)
    * Gym done but didn't do class as my socks were soaking and the bottom of my trousers were wet and I was just too cold. :)
    * Went to farmf00ds for my dad, Got what he wanted and the block of extra mature cheese that they do which dh loves, used my phone to calculate the spend to get as close to £50 as I could and remembered to use the £5 off a £50 voucher :)
    * Dad brought some left over sausages which we shared as a sausage buttie for breakfast :)
    * The house is very cold, I don't put the heating on til after the kids get home tonight so I've got my normal clothes on and then added my big pajama jumper on over the top to get warm! :)
    * My niece is coming as she's got an inset day and my sis is working this afternoon, I've messaged her and reminded her to bring a jumper & her coat (my sis has her heating on a minimum of 26 degrees all winter!) :)

    Still to do
    * Check banking/spreadsheets :)
    * Make tomorrows lunches :)
    * Check calendar :)
    * Check luckyphone :)
    * General post weekend tidy everywhere :)
    * Clean kitchen using stardrops :)
    * Look at library online to see if books in yet :)
    * Rm survey :)

    Enough of a start there, will add more as I go.

    * Made smoked paprika chicken for tonight, using up yesterdays meat, also added extra veggies to the recipe to pad it out a bit/increase veg intake :)
    * Added a half eaten pear to the freezer bag last night, taken that out of the freezer bag and making a mixed fruit crumble, I think theres pear/plum/apple and nectarine in there :)

    Have a good week all.
    Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
  • Afternoon all,

    First day back on track.

    4 hours worked of overtime today, work for a boiler company so there's always overtime this end of the year!
    Sorting out my bills atm, direct debits seem to have all came out so using my afternoon off to work up a budget for the remaining month
    Shall call BG to setup DD for gas and electricity moving forward and also discuss new tariff if possible
    Need to sort out new home insurance so will check Top Cashback

    Hope you're all well :)

    Afternoon all :)
    Thanks for starting us off Ziggy :)
    Horrible day here, torrential rain and really dark and cold :( No heating on downstairs, though I will be lighting the wood stove later this afternoon.

    So far today I have:
    Attempted to take dog for a walk during the one short lull in the rain - he managed about 50 metres before turning resolutely round and dragging me home :rotfl:
    Popped in to sales unit just to tidy up - didn't want to get everything wet trying to restock today!
    Sticking to weightwatchers plan, and it is all fine, I am not hungry. It just goes to show how easy it is to just overeat without thinking about it :eek:
    Posted 2 ebay sales, I was intending to list some more things, but it is honestly too dark in here today to take decent photographs :(
    Checked one bank, still another to do (the one that needs the fiddly little number generating thing)
    A few surveys for onepoll

    Still to do:
    Check other bank
    Some cleaning - dining room today I think! Possibly the spare bedroom and ensuite as well.
    Sort car insurance (would have been a NSD apart from this :()
    Make a crumble to use fruit in fridge
  • Hi all

    LuckyLady I do that with the heating too but have given in. Even though I am wearing a huge fleece and scarf the house is really cold.

    79p spent today on bread which was needed for sandwiches. Chicken thighs in sc to make a pie for tea. DH is home because of the weather but he is cleaning so that's good and he can sort out tea while I work.

    Katy-Ann keep bouncing!

    Right - paid stuff.

    Afternoon all

    Happy Monday? Weather is shocking here!

    Quick one while I'm in work:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Gym at lunchtime (but taking it easy on my wrist) - done
    • Overtime
    • Charge phone in work
    • Possibly make flapjacks, depending what time I get in
    • Stretching with free Fitness Blender videos
    • Wrap ebay parcel and take to OneStop shop for Hermes to collect
    • Heating on low and after 7pm
    • Source new glass candle holder for metal stand as one cracked with the heat from the candle
    Short and sweet

    Stay dry folks
