    Morning Saturday Savers,
Well, I said I intended to keep busy today & I am. When I am worried, I'm the world's worst at sitting around catastrophizing. Busy is best. So today I have:
*Cleared a section of freezer & removed 6 items to use.
*Put ingredients in the slow cooker for Golden Lentil Soup. So cheap & such a rib sticker that a slice of cheese on toast would make this a main meal. Chucked in a parmesan rind for extra flavour (idea from Nigel Slater & it works).
*Topped up the birdfeeders. Not money saving except for the scraps they also had but I love watching wildlife so it's free entertainment.
*Picked up a bucket of windfall apples & have turned the imperfect ones into a big pan of apple sauce. Will be divvying up & freezing in recycled hummous/olives pots.
    *Done next week's meal plans.
    Still to do:
*Wrap Mum's 80th birthday gifts. One is a handknitted mohair stole I made in summer. The other is a photo of a place she dearly loves taken by mr f, enlarged (£4.20) & framed in our big free IKEA frame. You wouldn't believe how lovely it looks for such a low spend.
*Wrap mr f's bday & Christmas gifts while he's out of the house - will be using materials from my recycled stash as much as possible.
*Carry on knitting up my yarn stash into either useful items for me, gifts or things to sell.
*More free leisure finishing my book so it can go in the charity bag.
*Write shopping list & find Sainso's vouchers for tomorrow.
*No downstairs heating on until much later. The new radiator seems v good. It is one of those with the clay cores which keep putting out heat after it's gone off. The settings can be reduced in temp as I was actually too hot last night. Seems much more energy efficient than our gas fire, lovely as that is for ambience, etc.
    Have a good day all,
    F xx
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Dawn - You were v good washing your slippers. I once trod in dog poo while wearing new trainers & I have to confess to taking them off & chucking them straight in the wheelie bin!!

Oooh check you with a lovely new food processer DNMS! :T I have one of those mini ones - just made date and cashew nut bars - just like the ones that cost £1 a piece!! OH is working so will take one to the footie pitch. Brrrrr.

Oh no Dawn! Be thankful for the slippers! :rotfl:

Foxgloves - inspired me on the lentil soup front and on using up some yarn from stash... got so much to make but annoyingly I wanted to make my friend something in navy and it seems it's the only colour I don't have at home - typical!

    Hi to everyone else

I'm home alone today - OH is working job #2. Was pretty pleased for him as he does this particular job as a bit of a favour as what they pay him hardly covers petrol and he is out all day (seriously works out about £3 an hour!!). When they asked if he could help yesterday he said as much and then they called him back to offer him double what they usually pay. #dontaskyoudontget

Hopefully get organised around the house today... Falling behind with the flylady thread :naughty:

SC chicken and HM soup on the agenda today.

Need to crochet - new baby (making 'converse' and will then put a voucher inside) :A

    Right, catch up soon!

    xx

Hope it picks up for you Bob - I imagine it's one of those things you try once as you never really know how it will go until the day.

    Good Afternoon All

Sending love and hugs to all that need them or want a hug - Foxgloves, Katy-Ann, Maria, 1LL, in fact all of you guys and gals

Had a busy few days but no "Black Friday" spending here either. DS was at a sleepover and DH had no work today so we had a lie-in but have since managed quite a few jobs and will aim to do more when home or tomorrow:

    Checked Bank
    Border up in hallway/kitchen
Paste table returned to garage and steps to shed
    Swept steps and front yard
Swept back yard. decking and collected all leaves off garden
    Delivered old bath to allotments
    DH cleaned all windows inside
    Quick shower
    Purged on emails
    Surveys
    Entered a few comps -
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer
Checked: Lucky Phone, Ashleigh, Numberplatelotto, FPL
    Read -

DD is taking me to the theatre later so we're off for a family tea first and then DH will collect us when show finished. Have a great day all!

  • Ah food processors. Long before I was born Mum worked in the kitchens of a private school and when she left they gave her the Kenwood Chef that she loved to use because they were upgrading the kitchen equipment. Mum used it all the time at home when we were little then when I got married she gave it to me. I still use it at least a couple of times a week. The liquidiser doesnt work quite as it should now but I still think of Mum using it at work 50 years ago!

Decided to splurge £7 on ingredients for a Christmas cake. I have made one every year for the past 21 years so it felt wrong not to do it.

Hope things have picked up Bob and it was just a slow start.

Have done 1.5 hrs paid stuff. Have managed 45.5 hrs this month, if I can do 55 hours by the 30th that will be a nice boost to the December finances.

Was thinking about HM pizza for tea but its getting a bit late to put the BM on. Mind you DS1 is at work and DS2 is in bed after a night partying so not sure its worth making too much effort. Bean on toast anyone?

Oh no Dawn! Be thankful for the slippers! :rotfl:

:rotfl:Well, they are fully recovered now, or as good as they will ever be. The dog plays with them, and they look awful and chewed, even though I haven't had them long :o I have asked for a new pair for Xmas, but no doubt he will wreck those too.

On the topic of dogs, DS brought his along when he delivered GD. It promptly peed everywhere  And he will return with said mutt tomorrow when he comes to pick up GD. Needless to say I will have some serious housework to do on Monday :( Thank heavens for hard floors!

In other news, I have enrolled my business into the Post Office's drop and go scheme, which means no more queueing at the post office :T Have to see how it works out re statements, receipts etc for my accounts, as it is currently easy via paypal.... but at least I won't have to stand in queues for hours over the Christmas busy period  or have to put up with the dog barking his head off at the printer while printing postage labels!
Popped into Lidls for a few bits
Sold 2 ebay items so far today :)
Worked out how much I paid for the stock I consigned to auction yesterday, and it is not as bad as I thought. I will at least get some of the money back, and the stuff isn't clogging up my loft cupboard anymore! My business has changed, and I no longer have a large retail space to display this stuff (small pieces of furniture basically, and large pictures). Come to think of it, these things didn't sell when I DID have the space, so why I have been hanging onto them I don't know :rotfl:

Got stuff out to make Xmas puddings, hopefully GD will want to help with this, but she has disappeared upstairs atm

Hope your event picks up Bob, maybe it will be better tomorrow...

    Morning (again!)
I'm feeling ok at the minute but don't think I'll manage much on only 3 1/2hrs sleep!
Not exactly sure of our plans for the day now as oh has changed what he is doing workwise.

    Todays plan may consist of
 Ys toasted muffins for breakfast :)
 If my dad comes over I'll ask him to help me get things out of the loft, I think I might have an old laundry bin up there, if I do then we'll put that into one of the kids bedrooms. :(Not there must have gumtree'd it when clearing out a couple of yrs ago, no worries though, I won't be buying another it was just if we had it. As up there will pull xmas decx/trees down into the spare room as my niece was on about buying new baubles and I know we've got a box up there of ones we don't use anymore, so it would clear out some stuff from here and save them from spending. :)
 Pick up library books for kiddos :)well my dad is going anyway so he;s going to get them for me. :)
 Run the washing machine on the quick 30 degree wash :)
 Try to stop dh from switching the heating on for as long as possible! :)

My brain is fried, will add more later.

    Have a good day all.
  Bagged up 3 bags of leaves of the drive ready to go in the garden waste collection this week :) Still loads more out there but just did a bit whilst the kids out there on their bikes for a bit.
:wave: Dh trying to get the printer to print off a photo of kids to go in a photo xmas card - current score printer 1- dh 0 :pDh persevered and printed the 3 pictures for cards and another 3 pictures to go in a picture frame that's been hanging there empty since we did the refurb in August!! :T:T
:wave: Came across a coloured candle on one of my shower room shelves, it was there to add a bit of colour but decided its just clutter so brought it downstairs and we'll burn it once we've finished the current yankee candle we are lighting on a night :)
  Continuing the use up, I only had 3 potatoes, got 2 chicken burgers/2 beef hache steaks from musc1efood out of the freezer yesterday, we had this between 5 of us with a couple of cans of beans, also added a bit of a bbq sauce that we'd got as a freebie from mr T's at some point :)
  Had some cans of cider that my sis didn't like, I didn't like either so have used them to make [STRIKE]beer [/STRIKE] Cider traps for the slugs! :)
  Had shower, left hair to dry naturally and used some useup lotions and potions, another one that I'd chopped up finished today :)
  Edited my planned mr T delivery tomorrow, to spend as close to £60 as I could to make the most of a £9 off £60 voucher, got my shop to £60.01 :j :j This includes some meat for xmas day too :)
  Radiator shuffle done as I've decided to turn the heating on as its bloomin' cold!
  Rented a 99p film from the rainforest people using free NoRush credit :)
  Can tell our food is due to be delivered tomorrow as its not a very healthy food day! Kids having pizza, a free one that Mr T delivered by mistake and told us to keep a couple of weeks ago with some bendy carrots that I've cut into batons & tinned sweetcorn! Dh is going to have a curry & rice from the freezer and I've had some toast with a scraping of butter so as to leave some butter for the morning! :
  Got some cooking apples out of the freezer to stew for us all to have a bit of fruit as dh suggested popping to the shop to get fruit, but I know he'd have spent loads on other stuff so I was pleased we had these in the freezer from my friends tree! :)

Really pleased with what I got done today, I'm flagging now so logging off for the day, going to watch a bit of tele and chill.
Bob, I hope trade picked up this afternoon for you.
Ziggy, Sounds like you've been very busy
Dawn, I don't 'do' pets! You've reminded me why!! lol
Yorkshirelass, They don't make things to last now, my folks had one too that lasted years and years, my sis bought them a new one a few years ago and it didn't last the year!
La E, good on your oh for asking! :T
Dnms, Cheese scones are a favourite in this house :)
Foxgloves, Can I ask what goes into your soup? I'm getting bored of what I'm making.
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
