Torque curve of a 458.... As expected very linear.

so you get over 300nm from between 2-7000 rpm, but it never gets above 350. A measly 1.9ltr diesel gets above 300nm from 1400-4500, they have tall gearing and it pulls a long time in each gear. And it keeps rising. 400nm, then 450nm. That;s a graph for a BSR stage 1 tune, they do stage 2 and stage 3.

Now I would say a 370z (or anything similar to be fair) is a good car, I wouldn't be making any stupid comments about it - If I thought you owned one even.

I like the way diesels drive, sport diesels tuned up are very responsive. I've driven a dentists £50k BMW 740d with 680nm it was very fast and incredibly smooth. Now that really did have instant power from any rpm.

The funny thing is the owner of that didn't offer criticism about anyone else's car, he didn't need to. Ive noticed that most people who own a decent motor are quite nice about other peoples vehicles.

Quite true. I'm interested in cars (and any vehicles, really) and will talk to you about yours and mine and what makes them interesting or useful. But don't expect me to be impressed or envious if yours costs more than mine, or has a higher top speed, or produces more torques or horsepowers. If you have posted a decent time round the Ring, or have found a way to smoke around in a reliable luxury motor for less than a fiver a week, then I will be impressed. Otherwise, it's just chat, and no reason to be unpleasant or rude about other people's choices. I had some of my happiest miles in a Citroen 2CV6.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

I am just shocked how you can compare a 1.9 diesel engine (remapped or not) to a Ferrari Italia 458 with a 4.5 litre highly strung V8 engine. Note, the 458 has 398 ft. lb of torque (available throughout the rev range. The graph you saw shows the power at wheels, not at the crankshaft and it is in ft.lb not n.m.
A 1.9 diesel remapped to the moon (stage 3) will still never be as fast in a straight line or around the corners compared to a Ferrari 458 let alone an M3.

That's because you don't understand cars, or how people use them.

No-one has mentioned speed in a straight line around corners, nor Ferrari's or M3s. You're completely missing the point.

    That's exactly it.

Yes, people are comparing high performance sport cars to diesels 1.9 litres. The quote above insinuates that a 1.9 diesel engine has more torque and is more powerful than a 4.5 litre V8 Ferrari 458.
Clearly the members here don't have an appreciation for performance engines used in cars like the 370z or the M4. They will always believe a Vauxhall Insignia or Mondeo is superior.

    Nope. No one said that.

Torque is more important though in every day driving than absolute power. Its easier to drive a 320d in every day traffic than some 500BHP supercar.

Even your "mighty" 370Z will need to drop down at least a couple of cogs to perform an overtaking manoeuvre, whereas in a 320d you can probably ride the torque in fifth or sixth

Indeed. So why do you keep coming back trying to talk about torque curves on cars none of us are interested in?
