How can you say a modern Golf is any less reliable than a Focus or Astra?0
-
Torque curve of a 458.... As expected very linear.0 -
The Golf is brand new. I test drove a few cars, BMW 1 series, Audi A3, Focus and the Golf. I enjoyed the drive of the Golf the best and it had all the equipment I wanted.
I don't know much about cars but don't think a Golf is any less reliable than most of the other cars I tried. Plus whether they are more reliable or not they do hold their value better, whether that means people are stupid or believing falsities is by the by, it will still hold its value better than a comparable Astra or Ford. Not that it was an actual factor in my decision as my car allowance more than covers my car payment each month so I can afford to not be too concerned. :rotfl:0 -

- '13 plate auto 2.0 diesel Astra and 1.6 petrol
- '15 Ford Focus 1.25 ecoboost
- Peugeot 208 2.0 diesel auto
From all the cars, the Golf has had the best quality interior and overall, the most accomplished. I didn't quite like the Astra's interior or its automatic gearbox. The 2.0 diesel didn't seem like it had 160bhp and the handling and ride was average at best. The Focus wasn't very memorable and I didn't quite get the hype with its so called handling - also very whiny on the motorway and returned only 38mpg.
The Peugeot was actually my favourite. Very comfortable, fast and seamless with its matched autobox and handling was very good. The only thing I didn't like was the tablet like interface to control the radio/heating etc.0 -
As part of my job, I have had the pleasure of driving similar class cars:

LS400 - 1997, cost me £850, plus another few hundred to swap a spring (which I did myself) and get it serviced. One of the greatest cars ever made
2003 Honda Accord, cost me £1800, then another £200 for some rear bushes, mot and servicing (which I didn't do myself). I'd previously had an accord for 7 years with very little maintenance over and above the oil changes.
My preferences normally include leather, heated seats, cruise control. At these prices I don't think about depreciation.
Having said that, if I could afford it, I'd get an RX450h.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
Toyota Yaris Mk 3, Icon Plus, CVT Multidrive. I do wish it had rear brakes though.
1962 Morris Minor 1000 (Deluxe version:rotfl:), 2 door saloon, now safely in my garage for the winter.0 -
You didn't quite understand what I was saying there. The 370z has a very flat torque curve meaning it's 280 ft lb of torque is available at any rpm and any speed. This is what makes it so fast unlike diesels which have masses of torque but can only be utilised in very a narrow rev range
...but he's owned and driven one...0
