    Getting closer to topic....

    I have one of these:
    red.jpg

It's loud, fast, no creature comforts, high VED, low insurance, 20mpg taking it easy, 7mpg on a track day, you can throw it into a corner and steer using the throttle, it'll do 90 mph around what would normally be a 30mph max bend and it stops with so much force that it has to be fitted with 4 point harnesses instead of seatbelts to stop passengers crushing their feet.

Anything else is just a fancy shopping trolley :p

Of course it will, you need to get a room with darkmatter.

In fairness to Strider, yes it would do as he has described.

I've had a go in similar on track days and they're a league apart from a normal road car.

Most normal cars can cope doing 50, maybe 60 on such bends, so its really not so far fetched, more a statement of how ridiculously low some of our speed limits are or how ridiculously incompetent most drivers are, can't decide.

So it's now double your original claim. You find a bend you can get your kit car round at 90 and I bet you could get a people carrier round it at 70.

Wife has a 2009 Mitsubishi Colt that we bought new, It's been totally reliable and will be with us till the bitter end. For a small car it is practical and is cheap to run.

I have an Alfa Romeo 147 that cost almost nothing as it was broke, It is now all fixed and she is proving reliable and more interesting than most other cars (In my opinion) yes it has a few quirks and strange habits but you grow fond of them :) There is a great support network for owners via forums and the specialist garages help keep costs down.

  • Currently got a 2011 BMW 520D. Had it nearly 2 years, use it as my daily driver and it's fantastic. Very comfortable and pulls back approx 50mpg.

Also got a 1998 Fiat Coupe 2.0 20v Turbo. It lives in my garage and only comes out when the sun makes an appearance... which explains why an 18 year old car has only 76k on the clock! Very quick car though!

    2013 Passat 2.0 TDI 177 Estate Sport.
Bought 12 months ago for £11,500 with 60k miles, now has 73k
Great loading capacity, enough power, good efficiency, Good perceived quality.
Used for holidays, pulling caravan, and generally long journeys.

    2002 Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI
Bought 6 years ago for £1200 with 90k miles, now has 106k
Good value 2nd car, very reliable, 56mpg, poor perceived quality but I dont mind for what is effectively an around the doors car, doubled up as a DIY / hobby van.

I'd prefer better cars (fiesta Titanium X or Nissan Leaf 2nd car, and a 5 series or E class estate for a bigger car), but I'm a debt free wanabee, so my dreams will need to wait for now.

I'm happy with the car's capabilities, comfort, and running costs, and their fit with our family needs and financial status.

Assuming that centrifugal force in a corner goes up by the square of the speed (would need to check this), then to corner at three times the speed of a 'normal' car would require nine times the cornering grip. Given wide tyres, stiff suspension, a light overall mass and a low CoG, I don't find that hard to believe. The driver would need to be properly awake, though.

1995 Celica SS3, everyday beater and occasional track toy. For a wrong wheel drive car it's very chuckable and instils confidence in the twisties. Mid 30s MPG when taking it easy. Downside is a rubbish droney exhaust which I bought as a cheap replacement when the old one rusted through. :rotfl:

Very few people ever get near even half of the cornering ability of their car.
