Are you pregnant then Cazzie or have young ones? I only ask because of your baby clothes shopping in T!scoe. Good luck with the comping and Ernie, and well done with the £5er and especially with the £200!!!! Just noticed your running and presume - no, you're not having the pattering of any little feet, ah well. Good wishes with the running, I'll gladly sponsor you too and know just what to do.
Hello Sue-UU, lovely to hear from you! That's ever so kind of you, thank you so much. I can confirm I am most definitely not with child! But I can also confirm that the official biggest drain on my finances are all of my friends' children whom I just adore and I can never resist a bargain or a treat for them! And I was recently asked to be Godmother to the newest addition to the little crew, so I can feel that dream of my flat slipping away and being replaced with tiny outfits and cuddly toys! Actually, one of the plans I have for my little man is to open a bank account for him and save a little money to give to him when he is all grown up and teach him from an early age the importance of saving and good money management MSE and SPC-stylee!
Sadly I've been unable to work for the past six months due to shockingly awful mental health struggles but I'm pleased to report I am finally coming through it and hoping to be back at work next month all being well. But it does mean I'm now on half pay, and it has been another valuable lesson in being secure with money, hence the Emergency Fund I am now formulating! My promised trip to Edinburgh Festival for my little brother's Christmas present hit the buffers today as we couldn't get the same days off work in August so we've decided to plan it for 2018 instead and do it in style, but it does mean the pressure is off financially just now so I'm a little relieved! At Christmas I was fully expecting to be back at work within a few weeks so money wouldn't have been so tight but sadly it was not to be. But it will be something to look forward to next year instead and means I have some breathing space and can afford to pot a little more towards my Emergency Fund!
Nothing to pot today but that's because there was no spending so all good! But good potting by all of you, especially that nice chunky £20 by you, Sue-UU! I have a few things to pay for over the weekend so I'm hoping for some lovely change for the pot! I'm keeping my eyes out for these unusual new £1 coins that could end up fetching a lot more!!!
Lots of love to all of you battling health problems of any kind, and even those just trying to make their way through the challenge that is sometimes human life! It's so lovely to be here with you all and wander through it together! I hope you all have a happy weekendxxx

As a bank cashier I am allowed to say I hate the £5 notes too, and I'm going to miss the old ones, after tomorrow :0(
Can I just ask, why does everyone seem to dislike the new £5s? I don't mind them at all - in fact I was wishing for plastic £10s the other day when I got a paper £10 caught in the zipper of my purse and it took a good five minutes to extricate it without ripping the note to shreds  And, Westie, are the £5 notes not easier to handle than the old ones? Genuinely curious hereHello lilyflower and thank you. Those are very wise ideas in order to keep your money safe, don't forget to keep that pot well hidden too! I hope it's not long until you have your hours increased. Happy saving Lily!!!
Thank you, Sue-UU! Au contraire - the pot is on display (a rather pretty sealed can) as the last pot was hidden in what was meant to be a safe place, and wasn't missed until I wanted to pot something.Having it on a shelf in full view means if it goes walkabout it'll be missed immediately, thereby (hopefully) deterring any future light-fingered visitors. And, unfortunately, I'm out of work at the moment so there are no hours to increase, but I truly appreciate your well wishes and I firmly intend to continue saving happily

Thank you so much for your kind words, Cazzie :grouphug: (Excuse the somewhat dodgy hug :rotfl:) As someone who's going through a similar situation - currently unemployed due to mental health - your words were quite helpful and uplifting when I checked into this thread earlier, although I didn't get the chance to post then. I hope your health improves too and there's absolutely no need to apologise for nonexistent rambling - it's lovely to have you on this thread
A fun story for fellow potters, if anyone is interested:
Today I went to the cash machine to take out a £5 note for a £4.40 bus fare. As it was quite warm and I was thirsty, I bought a can of orangeade for 25p and got a shiny new £1 coin in the change. I'd emptied my purse yesterday, so I didn't have any change to swap the new £1 with other coinage for potting, but I did need to get the bus. Now, other people may have spent the new £1, but no, I was determined it had to go into the pot because I'd decided that all £2s and all new £1s get potted, no matter what. So I went back to the cash machine and took out another £5 for the bus fare so that I could pot the new £1
As a result, the shiny new coin is currently making friends with its new housemates in the Lily Pot.SPC #119: £86 banked

I dislike the £5 notes because I cannot easily fold them and put them in my little purse as they keep springing out when I open it. The old ones stayed there behind my cards until I needed them.
I'm like you with £2 coins and the new £1 coins. I've got £50 worth waiting to be potted that I've put aside to put in my pot which is a little inaccessible at the moment.

Thank you so much lilyflower, I'm glad my witterings did some good and I truly hope things improve for you soon. Mental illness is a !@#$/^& but now I'm coming out the other side I've realised that all of this has happened to me because I've got a big mouth and I will go around yelling until things in the field are drastically improved! Cazzie's Crusade will be coming soon to a Facebook near you!
And by the way, your funny story... totally something I would do! If I get £5s, £2s or new £1s, they are heading for the pot and nowhere else, and I will keep withdrawing money until I am provided with a note I'm happy to break into! I didn't like the new £5s at first but have now fully embraced them and they are providing a beautiful lining for my pot! But I do feel for poor Westie as I bet they are a royal pain in the behind to count at the bank! According to an MSE email I believe we can expect plastic £10s in September but then for some reason have to wait until 2020 for plastic £20s! Probably a good job though if I'm going to be potting all the plastic money - I would be potting everything I had and there would be no more bus travel for me!!! xxxHouse Deposit Fund - £30,000 / Fees Fund - £5,000Furniture Fund - £2,500 / White Goods Fund - £2,500 / Flooring Fund - £2,500Emergency Fund - £7,500365 Day Penny Challenge for 2025 - £638.69/£667.95 (Holiday Fund)£2 Savers Club for 2025 - £24/£200 (Christmas Fund)52 Week Card Challenge for 2025 - £267/£400 (Fun Fund)0 -
Hello everyone! :hello:
Long time, no posting. I had an interview for a new job this week (didn't get it) and by jove a 4 day week has been busier than a normal 5 day working week! I've also checked out the flexible working policy for my current job and basically, I can't apply. Well, I could apply but I don't have a good enough reason to drop down to part-time hours!
Anyway, aside from that, potting has charged on. DH has slipped up on a couple of occasions and unwittingly added about £5 to the pot. :rotfl: I've even potted some of my own pennies.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

Evening all! Happy Saturday!
Thank you very much Sue-UU for your very kind and generous donation, it is much appreciated. The pennies on our page are building now and I'm counting on them to get me to the finish line! Thank you for your support.
Sorry you didn't get the job, Vicky, but I like to think everything happens for a reason and so I hope it means there is something better out there for you and I wish you all the luck in the world searching for something that works for you.
Managed not to spend anything today (yay!) but Mum did get her hands on a shiny new £1 coin so I traded two 50ps and now have £1 for the pot. Every little helps! Good potting all round by the sounds of it - well done everyone, keep up the good work!xxx
PS - If anyone wants me, I'll be under my hug rug getting some comping hours in (and crying over Casualty!) xxxHouse Deposit Fund - £30,000 / Fees Fund - £5,000Furniture Fund - £2,500 / White Goods Fund - £2,500 / Flooring Fund - £2,500Emergency Fund - £7,500365 Day Penny Challenge for 2025 - £638.69/£667.95 (Holiday Fund)£2 Savers Club for 2025 - £24/£200 (Christmas Fund)52 Week Card Challenge for 2025 - £267/£400 (Fun Fund)0
