  • Monday was a spend day as met up with bestie for pub meal and gossip (planned in Oct so not breaking any rules!!) Also had eyebrows waved. Also stocked up with clementines from M&S.

Tues - Fri have been NSD's. Still using up things from the cupboards and freezers and only buying vegetables, fruit, milk and butter. So that's 4 for the week so far and 8 for the month.

Today will be a spend day as I DH has already been out for animal feed, we have a jumble sale this afternoon and I will get some food bits from Lidl while we are out.

Sunday should be a NSD which would then take me up to the 5 for military but don't want to plan too far ahead!!

Quiet day here - have baked bread, rolls, dough balls and flapjack (banana, maple & raisin - yummy). OH has done a little bit of diy and DS1 is off helping with poppy selling. Small ones are playing - will get them to do some tidying and homework later if I can so that tomorrow is a free day :) (well, relatively - smallest 2 are out at a Remembrance parade from 8.30 - 10.30 and DS1 out for 2 parades/ cathedral service from 10am - 4pm) Am proud of DS1 for giving up so much of his weekend :)

Had the remains of yesterday's carrot and bean burgers for lunch today. Others had bacon - frozen back in July when we went on hols and dragged out this morning rather than buy some more this week :) Not sure what we're having for dinner yet!

    xx

Bob – Hope the party goes well. Children just enjoy themselves so I woldn't worry about it. They will all have a great time.

When I was working I used to get stressed about everything being perfect and, one day (when I came home in tears), my son said to me “Are you getting paid enough to worry about this or is it someone else's responsiblity?” Never looked back. All you can do is your best.

Thank you TF it went just fine. Wise words indeed.

    Hi All

Just popping on to declare NSD 4 of this week, 8 in total.

The party was fun. Max thrift was applied but still fun for them and us :)

    Leftovers for dinner.

    Hi all.

We have been spending again, from the grocery budget mainly. I needed some baking ingredients and some other bits. Also bought a role of foil covered bubble wrap type insulation and DH has fitted behind all the radiators on outside walls.

Me and DS have baked 12 white chocolate muffins, 3 have been eaten and the rest have been frozen for lunchboxes. We also made a large fruit cake and I will make some bread rolls tomorrow maybe.

We are having pizza tonight but not from the takeaway.

I also bought DS a birthday present on ebay which I am very pleased with, he needs some new skins for football and I nearly bought him a top and bottoms coming to £44 this morning but then thought for that money he wouldn't appreciate them as they are only basics. Anyway I found some on ebay for less than £10 for a set, they are used but none of us have a problem with that and it leaves more of his birthday budget for other things.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.
Have had 4 NSD on the trot but went and bought some stewing meat as I have lots of veg that need using up. My stews usually last for days as I chuck all sorts of stuff in!
Shouldn't need to go out until Tuesday at the earliest, may need bread.
Spent time cleaning up after the kitchen fitters. Making a note of things I need/want. Well it is nearly Chrismas ;).
Realised I haven't read the rules properly But haven't bought any alcohol since a wedding I went to on the 4th of this month. I didn't set any budgets either :(
    Off to read the rules.

  • Quietish day here today. Was hoping for a NSD but C went to collect my prescription an came back with four pizzas that we don't really need. However they were on special offer and he saved £6.00. They are really delicious and will be used so can't really fault him although not really in the spirit of this month's challenge. Although I'm doing the civillian challenge the overall budget is certainly going down so that's all good.

Bob – Glad the party went well. Children don't really need that much to keep them happy, do they?

Off to Edinburgh tomorrow so won't check in again until Tuesday but hoping not to spend too much other than the hoiday fund. Really must learn how to use the the tablet properly so I can keep in touch,

Keep up all the good work, everyone.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Not sure if today will be an NSD - unlikely as I am off to a festival of wool and I know my ability to walk away from craft stuff is weak! ha ha I do have way too many balls of wool and fabric but is that really a thing - too much craft stuff?

In terms of wants and needs - if I want something and it is expensive I tend to work out how many holidays in the sun it costs and as I much prefer a holiday in the sun to a fancy new toy then that tends to make the want go away! find your needs and the wants will wither.

Yes having too much craft stuff is definitely a thing. The hoarders and decluttering threads are filled with people despearately trying to get control and many have it as a personal challenge in their diaries. You may have seen the anacronym SABLE in some people's signatures - it stands for stash accumulated beyond life expectancy.

Having today moved the last of my embroidery and sewing stuff from under the stairs (was the only safe dust free place to put it when I had builders earlier in the year) I know I still have too much. Just found the coloured aida I meant to put up for sale - have searched 'everywhere' for it as I knew I had left it where it was get-at-able.

I have reduced embroidery patterns a lot - asked myself to work out roughly how long it would take to complete (as a rough guide 1hour covers a square inch of fabric dependant on the complexity of the pattern) and whether I really have that much time left, especially if it is something I don't have an intended recipient for.

Earlier this year my mum moved into a bungalow and reducing the clutter is an ongoing project. Her partner's children jumped the gun on the move and it was far more complicated than if it had been properly organised. I was given most (not all) of my mum's sewing stuff including zips taken out of dresses, buttons cut off for reuse and also including the contents of my grandmother's stash - I went through it all several times and donated as much as I could, just saving precious buttons (some 1930s and 20s I think). Never want to see a mens underwear button again (talking long johns and liberty bodice buttons). I am also going to take them to crafts in the next few weeks asthere are some projects using buttons. I may regret letting a particular button go in the future but I doubt it.

Sorry for the epic. Have spent a little money on bread, veg and storecupboard items (mint sauce and veg stock cubes). Sewed all night, dozed earlier and have tackled part of the kitchen as well as moving the sewing stuff (making room for the tools, painting stuff stuff to go under there. Have re-arranged a cupboard and will try to put the shelf back tomorrow (needed to kneel on the floor and my back said it had had enough).

Today I am grateful for nearly completing a sewing project, starting a 'fun' project and for finding good drama series to watch whilst I sewed.
