I am loving the military NSDs. Every time I 'want' something, I keep thinking if I might need to save my spend day for something later. I have persuaded myself that I might need something for diy or craft but need to get one or two things done first so I can assess the situation.

Think I really let things slip last month with feeling 'poorly' - not feeling like eating, only wanting 'soft' things or wooly headed and spending too much because I couldn't remember what was needed.

Definitely eating better this month although my search for 'snacks' has yielded some unlikely items - DS3's leftover prawn crackers and the remainders of a bag of dates I bought as a treat for last Christmas (only allowed 5 at a time and not every day and they are hidden on a shelf under the stairs dwarfed by tins).
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

    Hi everyone

Been shopping today but it was mainly clothes - I have been holding out getting some new things but with the weather getting worse and colder thought I'd better get some jumpers, anyway went to
Prim ami and got a couple and went elsewhere for new trousers, slippers and a few other needed bits. I quite dislike shopping so when I go into the city I usually get it all in one go. I did catch the bus and used my free bus pass so saved fuel and parking but it took forever to get there and back and then I have nearly a mile to walk (mostly uphill) to get home but that was my exercise for the day!!!!!!

Anyway just off to bed, I have two dgds staying with me tomorrow night so not sure if I will manage to get on here.

    Morning all,

Yesterday was a planned spend day. I meet up with different groups of friends for dinner throughout the year and last night was the first of the 'christmas' get togethers. It was fairly pricey but enjoyed trying a new restaurant and drove rather than drinking to save money. Plus it was budgeted for at the beginning of the month.

Today will be a spendy day so I'm up to 7 SFDs and 5 spendy days. I'm on military but have gone over by 1 spend day this week. The builders have announced they are arriving on Monday so keys need to be cut, tea and milk purchased and a few other bits. I also need to pay for parking when I get my eyes tested later. I need to spend the day reshuffling the house, putting away items to prevent everything being covered in builder's dust next week. It's currently chucking it down so having a slow start and snuggled in bed.

A NSD yesterday which takes me up to 7. Exercise now up to 6.

Debt has gone up though as me and OH bought a washing machine on Wednesday for the new flat. I got a 0% purchase credit card especially for furnishing the new flat so need to make sure that I only use it for that.

Today should be a NSD, my dad is here so just spending time with him and my gran.

Good tip wit40iwtwan, i had never thought about doing that! Is it just socks you do this with, or other things?

I've put myself on the naughty step Thrifty..i am going to be there for the rest of the day while i think about what I've done.

seasidegal58- i wouldn't think about throwing something away if just a button etc had come lose, what a waste of money! HOwever, back in my 20s i wasn't so frugal and i'd do exactly that. I wish i just learnt how to sow!

Thanks @WantToBeSE - in fairness it was only when I started looking at the cost of socks that I remembered reading about the cost difference of other things like razors, etc and then thought to look at the men's socks. Bearing in mind I was looking at own brand socks and comparing only this (not posh branded stuff) that I realised that for the same sock material content and same brand the men's socks were cheaper! I have been known to buy men's tshirts without knowing they were mens so I guess anything I fancy that is a base layer is fair game! ha ha - gloves/scarves/jumpers/socks - lots of possibilities!:money:

  • Not sure if today will be an NSD - unlikely as I am off to a festival of wool and I know my ability to walk away from craft stuff is weak! ha ha I do have way too many balls of wool and fabric but is that really a thing - too much craft stuff? My justification is I am not the usual type of lady who spends a lot in terms of makeup and hair - I dont wear makeup everyday so stuff lasts as long (unless it has to be thrown as it has gone off) and I dont dye my hair so my bill for hair is 4 visits a year for a cut and blowdry. I love having a simple wardrobe of jeans and t-shirts then sweaters for winter. I wear the same clothes for work and weekends but I do have a few fancy dresses for going out and weddings but I wear the same thing. This saves loads on bills and means I am pretty frugal.

In terms of wants and needs - if I want something and it is expensive I tend to work out how many holidays in the sun it costs and as I much prefer a holiday in the sun to a fancy new toy then that tends to make the want go away! find your needs and the wants will wither.

    Failed dismally this week.
0 Only 1 no spend day.
However in my defence Spends were considerably lower than of past experience.
I am off to a wedding today and will need to spend for that.
I did get my dress £6.50 in a charity shop on Wednesday but I didn't spend my money it was Mum who treated me.
My Spends have been food items and a Christmas present.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
  • Just catching up with everyone..

    Hugs to welshkitty and OH

Calling - I know you have signed up with PlusNet already but just wanted to say that I have been with PlusNet for years - they are owned by BT. I used to be with Madasafish but they were brought out by PlusNet. Touch wood - I have never had any problems with them and when I did have a query about something I called them, the phone was answered quickly and by someone in the UK (I don't mind non-UK call centres but when it comes to technology I want someone who can help me and not have to read from a script because that never helps). I pay £20 per month for unlimited, I was previously on a different plan but found we were going over the limit due to 2 children who go online with Xboxes)

Also - well done on ending a relationship that does not work. A lot cling on to hope and waste their lives away.

I know you have all been talking about sewing etc - I can sew buttons etc but due to being nearly blind in one eye I can't see to thread a needle and unless I have loads of light I can't sew straight either. Luckily DH is quite handy or an older lady who lives near my mum does my sewing for a small charge.
I have never learnt how to crochet or knit or even turn up curtains - my mum can do buttons but she also does not knit or anything. She came from a large family and I guess her mother never taught her and so we children were also never taught.
