Hello everyone! I've come this way after following a link from Twitter. How have I not found it before now? Am I allowed to join - pretty please? I'd like to start with the civilian route first....

I am lucky enough to be able to walk to work, so that reduces my spending on petrol. This week I've got a hair appointment, but I should be able to pull of 3 NSDs.

  • ((hugs)) for Mothernerd, DS3 and his beloved. Shocking to read what has happened but great that she is settling into yours.

Reporting in a NSD as mentioned yesterday - takes me to 4 for the week as I am Military!!

Will also be doing military next week. I know that tomorrow is a spend as meeting up with friend for pub meal.

Had a gorgeous roast today - our meat chickens are the right size so DH did the deed with 4 of them today. I helped pluck and DH did the cutting. We had one for tea tonight - it was amazing, I haven't had chicken for over a year as I only eat meat which we have raised and we had not been able to get hold of any meat chickens.
We have 3 in the freezer and another 7 to go so should see us through to next year and we should then be able to get some more in Jan which will be ready in April.

I need some soup guidance please.....
DH cannot have onions and all stock etc seems to have this in. I made parsnip soup last week with veg stock and it was amazing. This weekend I tried it with some old lamb stock I had and just put in carrot and parsnip and some mixed herbs. It tasted nice but was lacking something.
It came out quite thick so instead of having it as soup I served half of it up with tea as a carrot/parsnip mash and it was to die for but.....
what can I do in the future to make the base of my stock and also to give the soup flavour if I can't use onions or leeks??

    Any help appreciated.

Raphael- i hope you have a nice day of scrabble and fun. I love a good game of scrabble, but the kids aren't so keen on being beaten all the time ;)
We used 2 sets of tiles and I won the game by a narrow margin. We also played a Ninja turtles themed board game after everyone complained their brains were fried from the scrabble. ( I won that too)
Then we had a delicious roast, and now I'm enjoying a few glasses of red wine. I told BF to buy a small bottle for a lasagne on Thursday, however apparently they only had full bottles of red, so I have to drink the surplus. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Forgot to mention, I was waiting in on friday for replacement side panels for the bed, as they had come apart, they arrived 15 mins before I had to leave for work, so I didn't get change to put the bed together until Sat morn.
We were sat on the bed, and I had just asked BF to let me out the back so I could go to work. Suddenly there was a huge *crack* and one of the new side panels had spilt in two due to a knot in the wood!
The bed people are sending more replacements. They did accuse me (in jest) of scoffing too many chocs.

Incidentally this now leaves me with enough 'spare' wood to build a shelf that I've been wanting for a few weeks to store BFs dvds.

    Many thanks thriftylass.

Today would have been a NSD but I had to pay £1 for parking. Gah!

Eager_Elephant - I rarely use onions and leeks in my soups, but have you tried just bulking it out with carrots/potatoes/lentils? Actually, I've just thought of a LOVELY pea and spinach soup I've had with a vegetable stock and flavoured with cumin.

I managed another two no spend days. 5/6.
Made my own bread everyday this week. Jellies for pudding from AF stocks, and today we had soup from a catering mix I had, with homemade bread, and lasagne from a kit, and used the 300g of mince I bought on Friday. I used peppers onion, and a mushroom from the fridge, and another AF packet.
There is enough lasagne for tomorrow night. There was also a bit of mixture left because it was a bit too runny, so I will take it to work and microwave it and eat it with homemade bread for lunch.
So I am aiming for another NSD tomorrow too.
I have been doing my housekeeping money etc today, and moved £90 into various savings pots. Tomorrow I get "paid" so that helps.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

:j Hiya, can I join as civilian please- looking forward to the challenges and saving some additional money this month.

I've rather satisfyingly Just made my Christmas cake which is now in the oven cooking away, and am about to make up my packed breakfast & lunch for tomorrow (thinking rice porridge with banana chips for brekkie and maybe soup for lunch- I have half a butternut in the fridge).

Free ticket with a friend for a gig tomorrow after work so I will pack extra snacks etc to avoid buying dinner whilst out. ;)

New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!
