  • She has not guilt tripped me. She's a good woman and we've been together for a long time. I know what i'm getting with her. She's not a gold digger or marrying me to stay in the country as someone implied. That was an astonishing suggestion. She is a Polish nationalist and opposes the EU in the same way Brexit voters do. We are trying to arrange a small wedding in Poland next week. If it wasn't for being together for the length of time we have. I would not have agreed to this. Thank you to everyone for your advice and to those of you who have made me see sense. I know this is the right decision. Here's to a long and prosperous marriage.

Congratulations. You're doing the right thing, and I hope your father in law enjoys the wedding in good health.

(Bit weird for a Polish nationalist to settle in the UK though, if I were you I'd probably have left that out...)
  • Congratulations, and I wish you both every happiness. Glad I was wrong about the guilt trip!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

She came because there was a high demand for paramedics here. The NHS recruited her in Poland. When you are offered the chance to earn twice as much money as you would in Poland. The offer becomes too good to refuse.
  • Well, good luck. If her behaviour is anything like the way you described it in your post on here, you're going to need it!
Are you genuinely that insensitive? Her dad is dying from terminal cancer. I know how hurt she is. He's the only close family member she has left. Under the circumstances most people going through what she is going through would have changes in behaviour because they are grieving.

I can only go by what YOU wrote in your post. You might want to re-read it and try and imagine a stranger reading this on the internet. What do you expect people to think/say??
we had a disagreement over when we would get married. She wanted to get married within weeks, i didn't. She stormed out and went home. Her dad knew i was going to propose to her because he gave me her mums ring. The next day she took the ring when i was at work and put it on. She then skyped with her dad telling him i've proposed.

I was not happy with her lying and forcing the marriage on me when i've not proposed. We've argued a lot up until now where it has reached boiling point. She is sleeping in a different room and is just telling me to marry her for her dads sake and to then divorce her afterwards. I did swear at her and told her to stop being a childish little !!!!!. She has stopped talking to me since that happened.

Yes and like mature adults we talked. When i wrote that i was speaking in past tense about something which had happened to explain the situation. After having a heart to heart with her i understand why her behaviour has been erratic. As many other people who have spoken noticed. I was thinking about myself and didn't know the true extent of her pain. Instead of arguing with her i should have been supporting her. She needs me now more than anything and I'm here for her. That is all you need to know.
  • You're contradicting yourself left right and centre.

    EDITED:

    I'm calling troll.
    I'm outta here...

    Leave you all to it
That is like the pot calling the kettle black

You'd think an experience like that, where she's benefitted so much from EU rules allowing free movement of labour, might make her rethink her stance then. ;)
