    Hi everyone
Another sfd, haven't a clue how many I have achieved this month but it must be over 14. Anyway, will have to be a spend day tomorrow as I need milk and fuel for the car.
Managed a couple of hours down the lottie, no digging just clearing the rubbish. The person who had it before me really left a lot of useless stuff (I've had it nearly a year now) and I'm still clearing it. Anyway managed to pick the last 5 butternut squash!!! So I will have to read up on how to store them and by the looks of it the leeks are nearly ready and I have sprouts growing on the stalks of my sprouts!!!!So proud and pleased!!!! An old man down there(he is very old) came to see me down there and was telling me that he was sowing lettuce, beans etc to grow in the greenhouse and I ought to have a go in the plot tunnel, he's a lovely bloke and is full of good advice I think he is well in his 80`s as his son comes down to help him and he's retired.
Anyway better get to bed as its babysitting day tomorrow and I have to be up early 6.30 which is early for me I'm definitely a night owl and then I'm back down the lottie to meet another lady down there for a natter over a camping stove coffee tomorrow afternoon.

He had the cheek to ask me if I will have money for christmas (for us and presents etc I guess). I just saved and paid for the front door (400), the Oct holiday (300) and the ferry to Germany for after christmas (400). Oh, he'll put fuel in the car and pay for the service (wow, really). He earns more than me but I guess only spends 60% max on family stuff, bills and then still has to borrow money from me. whereas 93% of my income goes on debt, saving, bills etc. Originally we did it that way so he's got money left to climb out of his overdraft but that is obviously not working. I think we need to have a chat again and I need to stop enabling him.
Tell him the door is his xmas present!

Why does he not pay at least half the family bills? My ex earned significantly more than me, but I always paid half of everything.
My BF now pays half of the bills, even thou he has a large credit card he is trying to pay off. Our wages are roughly the same (he makes more in the busy summer, less in the quiet winter as he goes down to 4 day weeks).
He has offered to cover the majority of the grocery shopping for a couple of months, mainly as I am throwing every penny into savings for a house deposit. But I am willing to pay my half.

    Week Four Mini Challenge
Next weekend the clocks go back. In the following week there will be more road traffic accidents than in any other week in the year. If you or your children walk or ride to school make sure that they are visible and that everything (lights, brakes) is in working order. If you are in a car, prepare for a breakdown - torch, extra coat, emergency glovebox phone. Think about what is appropriate in your circumstances, be aware of other road users, take care, make preparations and most of all be safe.
I have checked the lights on my bike, but I do need to check over the car (tyres, oil etc). I've also been meaning to clean the car for a few weeks now, MIL will be traveling in the car soon, so must get on this!NSD no. 21 reached today, so I have smashed my target.

    Morning all

Loving the weekly challenge mothernerd as I'm currently sat in the garage getting an MOT and service done. I haven't had a service done for a couple of years so I'm getting that sorted. They said they'd do it while I wait so I'm hoping that's a good sign! I had booked a courtesy car from them but I don't like driving cars I don't know so I'd rather wait, plus it means I get to sit in a comfy armchair in the reception for an hour and catch up on here :)

Today is payday so after the garage (if I have any money left!) I'll pay towards the debt plus will do the monthly food shop, animal food shop and buy some more draft excluding tape for my bedroom windows. Then it's batch cooking later to stock up on meals for when I'm back at school next week.

Have a good day everyone, it's freezing but sunny here today

x_raphael - when I first read your response to thriftylass I thought you meant she should throw her hubby out (show him the door), I though wow she doesn't mess about:rotfl:.

Me and DH work our money a bit differently to most, ever since we moved in together all our money is paid into one bank account, all bills etc come out, savings come out, we decide what if anything we need to buy that month and set that money aside, we put money into pots to pay for regular expenses and we have a joint entertainment budget. If we have something one of us needs then that comes out too. We have never, ever argued about money.

DD is spending most of the day with her friend today and DS has a session booked at the trampoline park. Apart from the booking we will not be spending anything. Me and DH will cycle today.

  • Morning Turtles,

Another NSD yesterday. I'm behind on my target for the month but I forgot that I was going away for the weekend and it was my GF's birthday.

November will be a different story!

He earns about £300 more and it used to be that we both paid about 75% of our respective wages towards family, bills etc, so an equal percentage of income rather than half the bills. We changed that when we agreed that I'm better with money and should do the saving and paying back debt and he uses his left over (which he used to transfer to me to save etc) to shut the overdraft (about 2 grand). Which obviously hasn't happened. Plus the difference gets bigger as I don't really use more then £50-100 of my income for personal spends and rather put it all towards debt and saving whereas he sees extra money as: oh let's get some drinks for the weekend and nice food (rather than my house-wifey everyday cooking I guess :) ). So there is quit a difference in attitude. I see my money as our money and so does he to some degree. But he rather spends it on having a good time whereas I rather invest in the future. Sorry rambling. Could spend a whole paragraph trying to explain how our mindsets are different but it would be hard as I wouldn't want to paint him all black as he isn't IYKWIM.

Now, I have been enabling that bit too, by not saying no, or yes I few drinks and nice dinner would be good. This is going to stop now. We had a few smallish chats about the future, what we need to do on the house etc. He is quite keen to get the house done up to our neighbours' standard ( I mean proper windows and a kitchen, nothing fancy) and move to a house with a fire. I will use this as a way to get him on board and motivate him.

Our slowcoooker broke a while back. OH got paid today and the first thing he bought was a slow cooker this morning, as it saves money (his words) and time etc.

I noticed a change in him recently, asking to help more and actually doing it. And kind of realising that we need to save more and cut back. So I think I'm getting somewhere.

SFD today, HM soup for lunch and maybe a run in the sunshine

Read through Kat's original challenge. It could easily be adapted. There isn't an exercise target in it (I need to up my excercise and lose the lbs). I would have trouble knocking £20 off my food bill as I am working my way down to spending £50 per month by December (failing atm) but I could work with Kat's £80 (luxury) and 25 NSDs is extremely tough but tough is what I need right now.

I was thinking we could even have two versions as the original one is very harsh and strict but some might want to attempt it. Whereas it's not fair to expect everybody does it as it doesn't suit every body.

Has anyone volunteered yet for November (sorry if I missed it). If not I might step in if nobody has objections? Let me know.

Mothernerd the weekly challenge is right up my street as we need to look into what we need again for taking the car to Europe in January. Winter tyres will be put back on soon (was 2C this morning up here) and need some of those headlight stickers again. Still got fully equipped first aid kit, warning triangle, hi-via vests etc. Could do with a blankets and such things though.

As long as both parties are happy then whichever way you work it is good.
For me I have to pay half, I hate to feel like I am taking advantage of someone.
We are desperate to buy our own home (nothing against this rented flat, it's lovely but we want a new dog and a baby so need to be settled), BF isn't in a position to help towards saving for the deposit as I would rather he used his spare cash to pay off his credit card. He is helping by paying for the groceries so everything I don't spend goes into the savings. I still feel really guilty as he's spent about £150 and I've only spent 39p this month (although we've agreed I'll get the meat order which is due Thursday, but will only be around £20-£30). I do keep offering, but he refuses.
I hate not spending my fair share, but it makes sense for what we want to achieve.

Thriftylass it seems hes slowly getting it, but I hope you can sit him down for a convo and give him a KUTA to get him up to speed. :)

A Military (strict) version and a Civilian (gentler) version sounds good.
Maybe it could be broken down weekly? So people could maybe do a couple of each, or however many they wanted to attempt?

Exactly, I think that's the most important bit. Our method used to work and now it doesn't but we'll get there

    KUTA?

Ok, then if no one objects by tonight I might draw up the NOvember and NOvember 2.0
