No, the sex came about because of your son's failure to abide by the law.
I'm stunned by your protestations and the inability of a seemingly intelligent woman to acknowledge that what a nineteen-year-old did was actually wrong. If anything, the girl's background as you have described it makes her all the more vulnerable.
A nineteen-year-old is not a "baby". If you consider your son to be so immature that he cannot be held responsible for his actions, perhaps you should be shouldering some of the responsibility for not having ensured that he behaved appropriately rather than blaming everyone else, especially not your son.
I see adults who excuse all sorts of behavior because they were in love!!
My son was a lot more immature than a lot of 19 year olds - circumstances and all that!! There are parents out there who have daughters who are far more sexually developed and adventurous than mine were at a similar age. I don't judge.
I'm stunned that you can't understand that a 14 year old girl can want and instigate sex!!0 -

I can fully understand that 14 year old girls do want and instigate sex but I also think that a 19 year old, no matter how immature, should know better and be responsible enough not to get involved with a child.
Quite apart from the illegality of the situation, I just think it's a bit ucky and don't see that different levels of maturity can ever explain away the gap between 14 and 19.0 -

Adults behaving badly may not be behaving illegally and have no one but themselves to blame when things go wrong. The law is in place to protect children - which includes your son's girlfriend despite how precocious you consider her to be.
Of course a fourteen-year-old girl can want and instigate sex. Even the law recognises that by not prosecuting when the male is of a similar age to the girl. However, regardless of your protestations, your son was not of a similar age. He's been incredibly lucky not to have ended up on the sex offenders register. You don't appear to have any concept of either your son doing wrong or how serious the consequences for him could have been.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

Get back to me when you're a parent!!
Talk to me about how sexually mature you think your kids are!! I guarantee your kids will have different ideas!!
Why should my son be on the sex offender's register - he was only ever in love . . he didn't hurt anyone or take advantage!!!
He was just exploring!!;)0 -

Because he had sexual contact with a child.
Putting aside ALL moral and ethical arguments. He broke the law.0 -

How far does that argument go? How young? 10? 8? 4?
It's not easy to parent on your own but you are full of excuses. (and exclamation marks)0 -
He was a child himself - That 16 year old legal safeguard works both ways!!0

Haha - some of you place much higher moral and legal restrictions on other people's kids than you do on yourselves:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
