The Talk! Uni parents.

Listening to This Morning today, I was made aware that as well as sorting out DD2's jabs and extensive uni rider, I should have supplied her with condoms and had some sort of 'talk' with her:eek::eek:

Do parents really have to still do that in this day and age? I know DD2 is a bit naive but her friends have been having relationships and sex around her for the last 4 years. I'm pretty sure every possible drama has either happened in RL or be screened on TV!!

I can't imagine anything worse than a formal talk with any of my kids! What they don't know at 18 they can surely Google? Urban dictionary is very enlightening!!

How would you even start a conversation about safe sex with a young adult?
If they didn't know your views on the whole shebang by the time they leave home haven't you actually failed as a responsible parent?

You should have started that conversation long before the age of 18!!

We just said you will be exposed to Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll. Stay away from the second and enjoy the other two responsibly!!!

I wouldn't listen to this tv version of Take a Break magazine, that basically thinks all its viewers are thick........ :rotfl:

What a load of absolute tosh. As if an 18 y.o. on the way to uni is going to want to hear their middle aged parents banging on about condoms and bonking.

To be frank, I doubt there is an 18 y.o. in the land who doesn't know about the birds and the bees. :rotfl:

Probably better to equip her with a rape alarm to be honest, hopefully she's already absorbed the safe sex message.

If she's a bit naive then you probably should have a talk with her, not about the mechanics but about the risks. There's a storyline on Hollyoaks now about a girl who got so drunk she can't remember what happened, and whether or not she gave consent.

I don't think you can leave anything to chance these days and then you can only hope for the best.

I had that talk with my kids when they got to around 12ish and added to it until they understood the risks.
I also supplied my children with condoms when they went to a local music festival, they had great fun using them as balloons!

Oh dear, at 18 it's all bit too late! That 'talk' should have been had years ago.

Naive is probably the wrong word - but she's never gone out with a boy/been kissed! We've always talked about stuff anyway (and she has Big Bruv and Bossy Sis to keep her in check:rotfl:) I've never felt need to sit down and be serious.

It's the alcohol side I'm more worried about - she's not a drinker at all!!

I messaged her last night mentioning the programme and asked if she was 'cool';)
