ALSO still buying Butter 250g at Somerfield for 55p
Not in our asda at milngavie it's not:mad:. I went there today, looking for this cheap milk and I can't even remember what price it was, but there was no multi buy or special offer price on cravendale milk.
However, I did manage to get 2x3 litres for £2.00:p, but only 'cause they were reduced to clear.
No, I'm not telling you my total spend:rotfl:, but it was all needed.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I went to netto's today and their butter used to be 53p it's now 68p and their flour is now 49p. At this rate i'll have to stop having buttered toast daily, can't stop baking though as i love homemade cakes

I very much doubt this extra money is going into the pockets of the farmers.0

Thats the problem - its not that the prices are going up as such but that the farmers are struggling to produce the goods for the price they're paid.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

...also got a big hunk of celeriac for 5p but no idea what to do with it yet! LOL
just made a big pan of soup with it and it's lovely. Saute some onions and garlic and when soft, lob in the peeled and cubed celeriac, saute for 3-4 mins then put in some (I used 3-4) spuds, some carrots (hard to say how many as I used some frozen baby carrots I had left over) and cover with hot water from the kettle and 3 chicken stock cubes. Stir til the stock cubes dissolve, bring to the boil and simmer.
When the veg is tender, blend with a stick blender, season to taste and there you goIt has a lovely, delicate, celery taste. You could add chopped ham/gammon or chicken and heat thru to make it more substantial?

Okay. went to Tescos yesterday. Tesco Value butter, 250g was being sold for 95p a block!!!:eek: even mysupermarket.com it as being sold for 85p. It also shows Asda selling it for the same price. Sainsbury's own is still retailing at 68p, Waitrose (Ocado) is selling for 79p. this is ridiculous..
I'm going to Aldi later. If they're still selling for 68p i'm gonna grab lots... while i can.

Kethry do you know where Aldi's 68p butter comes from -I like to buy British butter ?
Still, the price rise must be benefitting the dairy farmers one would hope.0 -

It isn't benefitting our farmers. Due to difficult harvests elsewhere the price of grain has gone up, which means animal feed is more expensive. This pushes up dairy and meat prices. Increased flour prices push up the price of bread.
Transport costs are up as well with fuel costing a quid a litre, and the government is positively raking in the VAT. Even so, there's another hike in fuel duty due in a few months. Prices don't look like easing for some time.Saved over £20K in 20 years by brewing my own booze.

Thriftlady - just back from Aldi, its still 68p there, for how long though, i don't know. I picked up 10 packs, just in case. Its their blended butter, so the elcheapo stuff. Its fine for what i want it for, i put a little bit in when i make bread, and so on - for spreading on toast etc, i use a healthy marg spread. Anyway, i just checked the pack for you, it doesn't say if it was made in the UK or anything like that, it just has a little UK/EC circle on the base with a number in, J something or other. does that help any?
