It's where the EU pay the farmers not to grow anything so to stop surplus. To get a single farm payment, farmers have to "set aside" (not use for food purposes) 10% of their land.
Then something like this happens and the EU realise that they don't have a clue about agriculture!
Its not as simple as this , surplus drives the price down to below what it costs to produce . I only hope the price increases are passed on to the supplier , my guess is not all of it is0 -
I heard just today at the lunchtime news on the radio, that the four biggest supermarkets, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury and Morrisons, are accused of having formed a cartel whereby they agree on keeping the prices of items such as dairy products higher than they would be. When one raises prices, the others follows suit. They have of course denied it.
Meanwhile, a spineless government in thrall of big business keeps quiet and won't do anything.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Yes and strangely from reading the BBC article the Office of Fair Trading is investigating an incident relating to 2002 and 2003! Not what's happening now! How bizarre is that? So maybe in 2015 they will look into what happened in 2007????0

99p store todat still had the Be-Ro SR flour 12x500g for 99p. In date till November 2007.
M&S had their medium sliced white for 79p, which I didnt think was too bad. I also bought their 100% spreadable butter 500g for £2.05.
Also, my butcher did a great offer on 3 quite large half leg of lamb for £12. So thats 3 Roast Family Lamb dinners for £4 each.

I swear by Aldi's own brand bread - 26p a loaf, stays fresh, and freezes beautifully, unlike some other 'cheap' breads....
Have noticed the rising price of milk though - yikes! Wouldn't mind so much if I knew that the poor farmers were getting paid more than 2p a litre! Is it payday yet?

I always get my bread from Aldi or Lidl...cheap and relatively nice.
In Morrison's today I noticed a 4 pinter of semi-skimmed was £1.35, I put it back as my corner shop sells it from the local dairy at £1.19 for a 4 pinter....not often a corner shop works out cheaper!
For other bargains I go to B+M Bargains...not sure if it's a local chain or national but they are fantastic.. get lots of store cupboard items there plus premium brand catfoods at bargain/value prices!0 -
Curlywurlygirly, that Aldi bread has gone up to 32p (from 26p). I still think that is good value. In our house we use about 2 loaves a week now (we used to use a lot less).0
