I make my own salsa but with fresh tomatos rather than tinned.
Toms/red onion/spring onion/lemon or limejuice/garlic/fresh chillis with seed or without for milder - yum
My wraps always fall apart though - think it's cause I over fill them.0 -

Here's a link to a copy of the Taco Bell Chicken Fajita Seasoning Mix:

Hope it's useful.
Oh, the above site is worth browsing as it has a lot of 'copy' recipes.0 -
I make up our fajitas as I go along. I did buy some 'fajita meals' a couple of months ago (when they were on special!) but the spice mix and the salsa tasted 'chemically' to me, so we binned it.
If I think about it in time, I marinade the veg (onions, courgettes, peppers) with some olive oil, garlic, herbs, paprika, and then chuck them all in to fry when it's time.
For the salsa, I chop fresh large toms (currently from Lidl @ 1/2 price!), add some olive oil, maldon salt, garlic & herbs. I love it, and make extra to eat (cooks prerogative!) while I'm cooking!
The tortillas were on BOGOF at Safeway/Morrisons a couple of weeks ago, but not sure if they are now.
Oh, and to finish off, use a dollop of sour cream!"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
Just started making my own salsa and it's rapidly becoming one of my favourite side dishes, takes quite a while to prepare but that's ideal when the soap opera's on on
4 large tomatoes, de-seeded and chopped into small cubes
2 red chilli's - large ones chopped very finely (reduce if you're a wuss !)
Juice of 1 lime
1 red onion, chopped finely
2 ripe avocados, scooped out and chopped into 1cm cubes
2 tablespoons of olive oil
loads of chopped coriander
Make this a day or so in advance, leave it in the fridge and mix it occasionally. Take it out and serve away with whichever dish takes you fancy plus loads of cooling :beer:They say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0 -
Tortillas are on bogof at tesco at the mo.
For my "Fushion" tortillas ie a bit chinese and a bit mexican I fry off some cubed chicken breast, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms and cougette then toss trhough a jar of sweet'n'sour cooking sauce and heat through. While that is boiling I shred lettuce, tomato and cucumber and put a handfull in each tortilla. Add a splot of the sweet'n'sour mix and roll up.
Bog standard chill is also good is you add some lettuce, grated cheese and a splot of sour cream. I always double up the chilli if we are having chilli con carne so i have some to freeze for tortillas or jacket potatoes the week after. HTHLife's a beach! Asda sell little sachets of the spice mixes (own brand) quite cheaply.
Sorry, I can't say HOW cheaply because there is no asda near us, but I saw them when I visited my daughter & stocked up.
(no, she doesn't live in Asda - I meant when we went shopping!)0 -
Tortillas are so quick and easy to make I could cry at the amount I used to spend on them (BOGOF or no). Plus you avoid the HVO as well. I regularly knock up a batch while the chilli is cooking, and they freeze well too.
I have put a recipe on here - http://www.downsizer.net/Projects/Cookery/Bread_Making/ - it's the first one on the page and there's a pic too - but this week I tried a half and half mix with maize flour and wheat flour - the taste of the maize flour is lovely but it's very hard to roll out if you use all maize. They were most successful and I highly recommend it as a variation.
Chilli wise I always add a bit of chocolate to my chillis for colour and depth of flavour..cocoa powder can be a bit...powdery...0 -
