    have fun cashing the cheque!

I've just figured out what you mean.. the cheque will presumably be in US$... anyone know if I can pay this into my bank?

It's a bit weird that person named after red-breasted bird couldn't just refund it back on to my credit card. Sending correspondence and cheques in the post between UK and USA just doesn't seem very practical.
  • your bank will accept it, though a fee may be involved

You will be able to cash it in your bank but you WILL be charged a fee for this - quite high, and usually you have to wait anything up to six weeks for it to clear.
I would suggest that you email them again and ask that the cheque is made out in - sterling - at least that way you will get the full amount and they will take the hit on the exchange / cashing fees.
As your message suggests this is a 'courtesy' payment for the hassle you have had, it may be difficult to get them to pay it onto your credit card as this could create other issues.

There is another potential way to get the payment at a lower fee....

If you have a paypal account

Ask them to make the payment to that account:)

If you don't have one then perhaps open one.

It's just a suggestion but may save you quite a bit on the fees you will pay.

    Hope this helps,

i got this as an excuse

"The rate on Expedia is a Advance Purchase that takes full payment and is non-refundable. The rate found on Ramada is not full payment prior to arrival and therefore not a like for like rate. This therefore do not validate a free stay. Your booking is still provisional but at the rate of $180. If you wish to confirm this booking please provide us with credit card details."

    Just received this............

Thank you for your response regarding your best rate claim.

Unfortunately I can only reiterate that on review the comparative web site that was used to make your claim was offering a different product where the room rates offered had different terms and conditions attached.

Therefore I regret that your claim is not valid.

We do continue to hold your reservation, as detailed above on a provisional basis.

If you still require this accommodation at your confirmed rate of £230, I would be grateful if you would confirm that this accommodation is still required. If you wish to guarantee the accommodation for late arrival please could you confirm this along with you credit card details.

I do apologise for this misunderstanding and trust that we will still have the pleasure of welcoming you to our hotel.

    Sincerely
