As I mentioned previously I got one of these Gemstones. The casing is'nt a gloss finish, it's matt, although it does have some glossy 'go faster' features on it.
As an aside, I removed Vista from it and put XP in English on it. It was a bit of a nightmare, but I found the correct drivers eventually. If anybody wants to do the same thing, give me a shout and I can give links to the drivers that you'll need.
Typing English on a French keyboard is pretty difficult though.

got one of these for my dad (not very computer savvy) went round earlier and installed some bits and moved over his favorites from his desktop. tried it a few times on and off and all was well. got home got phone call only to find he cant turn it on. green light power is on (blank screen though) but no matter how long he presses it it wont turn off or on. he's got the manual to read so cant see it myself.any help on why it is'nt working. i turned it off last whilst in windows using the power button and it just seemed to shut down programmes as usual and then turn off. any help please. said he might have to take battery out and put back in but if anything is obvious please let me know.0

I have had two of these. The first one went straight back to Tesco's when it wouldn't start up at all -- green light kept flashing on and off every few seconds but nothing on the screen at all. You could try a "power reset" like this:
1. Unplug the AC adaptor.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Hold the power button down for at least 20 seconds.
4. Plug in the AC adaptor only.
5. Power up as normal.
I'm suspicious of the BIOS in these. The Acer support site has a BIOS update for this model which appears to fix several issues with coming out of sleep. You could try applying this BIOS update and see if that fixes the problem. Let us know how you get on.0 -

will give it a go and get back.0 -
Hmmm, maybe don't bother. My second one of these has just failed with the same fault -- refuses to boot up out of sleep mode. It's going back to Tesco tomorrow. I won't be getting a 3rd one of these.0

I would be very interested to know how to get the drivers for XP and how to install it. I found that some of my programs don't work with Vista.
Anyone set up a dual boot?0 -
Well after spending most of a week trying to get this laptop to play World of Warcraft (which I know it should be able to do). I'm going to give up and send it back.
My only problem is that when I received the laptop there was barely 10gb free and a setting up a dual boot to install XP wasnt possible, so I formatted the drive and installed XP.
Because this comes with no Vista install disk and I didn't have the means to create an image of the HD before I hastily wiped it I cannot get back to the original setup.
Does anyone know how that will affect my ability to return this laptop? Working for an IT company I know that all our new PC's are setup using a default disc image that is copied onto new machines, so I'd guess it wont be a problem??0 -
well i went round my dads house the next morning and he had kept it on charge overnight, but unplugged it in the morning. when i turned up all light were off and i just pressed the power button and it turned on like normal. he's been using it since with no problem. seems ok now.0

Hi people
I am having problems with the brightness of the screen on my acer 7520.
One minute its really bright the next it's really dim. The screen alters randomly and can hurt my eyes.
I am concerned that the screen may break permanently. Has anyone else experienced this problems or know what might be causing it?
Reading this forum worries me as I can see lots of people have had to return the laptops to Tesco due to faults, I see I may have to exchange mine0
