it's an aspire 7520. If you want more details about it, you can find it on Acer Eastern European website. The reason I ordered it, is because of the glossy look which it doesn't have. I hope that they'll take it back and give me full refund including the postage.
I ordered mine through Quidco. On my invoice it says Triple Clubcard points N/A.
MIKE... The problem with not shutdown properly, could this be because you shut the lid too early ? It's set by default that the computer would "sleep" when you shut the lid. If you choose the "shutdown", try to wait awhile before closing the lid or reset what the computer should do when you shut the lid.
  • I have purchased the Acer 7520 and am having problems, wonder if anybody can help.

    It states 80GB HDD memory.

I have installed wow and now I am trying to install expansion Burning Crusade.

    It says:

Sorry the installee was unable to start up. You may be out of hard drive space.

I have looked in mt computer and it states

C: Drive 10.9 GB free of 30.5 GB
DATA (D) 30.2 GB free of 30.3 GB

Should these two not add up to 80 GB?

And any idea how I install my game, how can there be no hard drive lef I have only installed wow :(

Any ideas would be grateful, thanks
  • there is possibly a hidden restore partion on the drive this may not be visable but will make the hard drive look more full up than you think it should be.Can you intstall wow onto drive d:

Did you purchase this machine from tesco and was its description picture wise and spec wise what tesco stated. I want to purchase this machine but would like some feed back first.

Hi I purchased one of these too and got it a couple of days ago. As far as I can tell it matches the description on the tesco site (both picture and spec). Somebody did say that it didn't seem to have a glossy look, well looking at the pictures I would not have said that they had a particularly glossy look so maybe the pictures on the site have changed?

The only thing that may catch people out is that there is a hidden disk partition (presumably for creating a recover disk, as there was none present in the box). Also 256mb of memory is taken up by the graphics card. I've not yet got any complaints (though remember I'ver only had it a couple of days) and it seems to run vista well, though your thoughts may differ if you're planning to run any graphics or processor heavy application.
  • I managed to get Burning Crusade to install and then I could not log into wow at all. So I am now running a sysyem restore which will remove wow fully. Shame the patches take hours to download.

Lets hope I can get it runnung this time.

Can anyone tell me how the 5 in 1 card reader works? Looks like a sliding credit card with cut out moulds, not what I expected.

I have also notciced that when using the laptop the brightness of the screen alters, from bright to dim and then 10 mins later bright again.

Only had it 2 days so hope these teething problems disappear.

I purchased this from Tesco and it matches the picture description and specs as far as I can see.
  • I also purchased one of the laptops from Tesco's a couple of days ago, primarily with the thought of using it for playing World of Warcraft.

Once I installed WoW, the expansion and all the patches I eagerly fired it up, only to have really poor performance from the game - so bad it's unplayable. Considering the specs of this laptop it should run WoW easily.

So I've since decided, with the help of a techie friend, to remove Windows Vista (its very memory intensive) and install Windows XP.

I've reinstalled and notice just a marginal improvement, and thats with all the settings at the lowest possible - its pretty much unplayable still.

Anyone else got this laptop playing games like World of Warcraft? Ktbagshaw?
  • Has anyone else had a problem where the insertion point seems to randomnly jump if typing quickly on the Tesco £399 Acer. Since this has happened to both myself and OH and in different programs (i.e and word) I suspect that this is a problem with our particular machine but wanted to see if anyone else had suffered the same problem.
  • I have managed to play world of warcraft now and it plays really well :)

Still have not figured out how you access your SD memory cards? Can anyone help....
  • Joined the forum just to help you out on this - I had the same problem for a few hours and it drove me up the wall. I found it was because the palm of my left hand was hitting the track pad and moving the cursor somewhere else whilst typing

You can turn off "tapping whilst typing" in Control Panel -> Mice, fixed the problem for me

    Cheers

turn on "tap off while typing". Nice double neg in the setup. Personally I had to turn off pad tapping altogether to eliminate jumping on my 5710. I just use the buttons to click and that works fine.

I got my 5710 from amazon. Same gemstone design, only I wanted the smaller laptop (15.4 screen) and the Core2Duo processor to help battery life. Same price £399. Nice laptop. Screen is super bright and vivid.
