Acer Aspire 7520 17" Gemstone Laptop

We are living in France just now and got the similar Acer 7520 17" Gemstonemodel yesterday. It has two 160gb hard drives, 2gb memory, and a Turion TL 58 1.9 cpu. It cost 825 euros and an extra 50 euros for an additional 2 years warranty which wasnt too bad, I think.
There is a catch for me, though.
I can,t really read a word of French and have never used Vista before, so all the settings are completley confusing, so I thought about making a restore disc, reinstalling and changing the current French language of Vista into an English version.
Does anyone know if this can be done?
TIA

I have been on the lookout for a new laptop for a while now and I thought this offer was too good to turn down. I picked up this laptop yesterday and it does look very stylish and well built and now for the problems, I set the computer up and then I deleted Norton (don’t like it and would rather use AVG) after this, the laptop would not switch off, so I did a system restore and again deleted Norton it was fine for a while but again this morning it would not switch off. I then phoned the Tesco direct helpline and was put through to Acer Technical Services, to the most unhelpful, obnoxious and arrogant man I have ever spoken too in my life, I explained I have already carried out a restore (I am no computer expert but know enough to get by) he then accused me a being a lair and that I couldn’t have possibly done a restore and that software was not covered by the warranty (hello consumer rights, fit for purpose and all that) and if I dared to send the computer back I would be charged and then he hung up on me. I was not being rude would never swear and remained calm throughout the situation. Why would I lie about a problem I need help with this man needs some common sense.
I phoned Tesco and they are replacing the laptop under the 28 day replacement scheme which does seem a waste as I am sure there must be an easy fix to the software problem. Tesco were polite and as efficient as ever. In summary the price is very good along with triple points and there is a 500 point code on the appropriate thread you can also use, works out to be around £330 if you take the deals (as I always do) but just hope nothing goes wrong with your laptop as there customer service if just about the worst I have experienced in my entire 37 years on this planet.
Sorry to hear about the hassles - Acer CS is notoriously bad!!
How do you get £330 with deals? You get 1697 points (triple points and 500 code)?Neil0 -
can anybody confirm that the spec for the acer 7520 on the tesco web site is correct as i have been unable to confirm this specification, acer cs informed me that tesco have a special spec, not sure if i believe them. Want to buy one but want confirmation first.
Also interested in this voucher offer? Please advise. I know the spec doesnt make it a brilliant games machine but has anybody tried it.0 -
There is a slightly higher spec Intel Core Duo (better battery performance than Athlon), slightly faster processor, same ram, bigger HDD in Staples at the moment for the same price (£399).
It's the HP 6010EM, phone your local store to see if they have them in stock then go and play with the machine and if you like it pick one up. If it's faulty then it's a simple case of taking it back to the shop and picking up a new one.0 -

I had a look instore and it seemed the same spec apart from a larger hard drive (160gb) - but it was £599 - in fact it looks like in store was spec that most other places sell the 7520 as.
Would also like to know about the voucher offer!Neil0 -

The code is TDX-AUGAQ and 1697 points equals £67.88 in clubcard deals so the true cost of the laptop is £331.12 which works out to be very cheap for the spec.0 -

I've received the 7520 from Tesco. I'm very disappointed though that it hasn't got the glossy case as I thought all the Gemstones do (also the photo on Tesco website)
I don't seem to get the tripple clubcard point when order through Quidco. Could this be true ? (the invoice shows only the extra points through voucher)0 -

please clarify is this laptop is an aspire 7520 gemstone or a travelmate 7520.
a previous reply stated there laptop had arrived but was not the same as the picture on tesco website. A manufacturers model number or something would be aprreciated. Is it worth the money even with triple points and a 500 point code.0
