Well, Mr Slug, I think you are wasting your time trying to wriggle out of paying the total amount.

In post #1 you said that you 'forgot' to change your address for the V5C - so that's it - game over.

You should be happy that the ANPR cameras only caught you 5 times - it could have been many, many more.

ps I'm no more a troll than AdrianC - but I guess you think a troll is someone who doesn't tell you what you want to hear.

Thanks again Adrian C for completely ignoring what I've written
One of us is ignoring what they're being told, but I think we may disagree on which way round it is.

Look, it's simple. You are the registered keeper for your vehicle, it's YOUR legal responsibility to make sure you conform to all the legal requirements. And that includes taxing. The V11 reminder is sent out as a courtesy. It carries no legal weight. If you don't receive it... Oh, well. Still your problem. And that's not even taking into account the fact that you failed in your legal duty to ensure that the address on the V5C was valid. If you aren't sure when the tax expires, it's a doddle to find out.

Basically, this is YOUR problem. Nobody else's.

It's easy to forget something like an mot or tax on a yearly thing. I change cars quite often and leave payments on direct debit but missed the mot on one car for almost a year. It wasn't until I came round to re tax it for the year that it said no mot for the car. I thought it was strange as I had it in my mind it wasn't due for a few more months but after checking it turned out to be the right month just almost a year late. Took it straight round the garage and it passed straight away but was lucky never got stopped for it.

No Iceweasel. I don't think you are a troll. Adrian C thinks I'm trying to defend failing to update my V5C & tax my car. I'm admitting to that & take full responsibility. I'm trying to defend the last 3 fines which would of been impossible for me to act on considering my actions.
  • But all the fines are a direct consequence of your failures. Firstly by not notifying DVLA and then by not paying the excise duty due.

For what it's worth I hope you do find a way out of most of these fines! The amount is absolutely extraordinary, it's extortionate!
It should be backdated tax plus a single fine for the offence.

I don't think anybody deserves a fine of this size over a tax issue

Tell that to HMRC and the Treasury!

Well, OK, great... but that does include taking the full consequences on the chin.

Frankly anybody here that believes a nearly £2k penalty is proportionate to the 'crime' then you need your heads testing.

Taking responsibility doesn't mean you have to accept the punishment is fair.

You get a smaller fine for beating somebody up or robbing a house

No you won't because you can't rob a house.
