How is your head by the way? I also saw elsewhere that Mr LW reads the Telegraph. Does he ever try the crossword? I buy it sometimes, start the crossword then post the crossword to my friend to see if he can finish it. I can usually do most of the small one.
Since Mr LW retired we only bother with the Saturday paper; but it's me that does the cryptic crossword and the Sudoku, and we do the general knowledge crossword together.
Mr LW has had his referral letter for the chest specialist. This could be fun (NOT) - he has to choose between two "medical centres" and call the one of his choice to make an appointment; neither can be booked online, and there are very restricted hours when you can call - Mon-Fri only, 09:30-14:00 for one and 09:00-16:00 for the other. We had no idea where either was - I had to consult Google Maps to find out the addresses as these were not provided in the letter. I've discovered the first one is 3.6 miles from us and has an overall Quality Care Commission rating of "Good"; the other is 6.3 miles away and rated "Outstanding" but is in what I'd call not a nice area. I've given him all the info I dug up and told him I can't make the decision for him.
So he is joining the ranks of those running the gauntlet of the NHS - luck be with all of us!!
On a brighter note, Meg has arrived; she's a Golden retriever (and guess who is wearing all black today? :rotfl: ) and she's almost 16 years old.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Oh WOW Cranky id be furious!! Sometimes they don’t realise how essential these things are to people!
candygirl if your able to go private I would just for the peace of mind
Pollyanna I hope your bumps and bruises are not too bad!
I’m full of cold so have came to bed at 4pm with a cuppa after ferrying DD round her appointments and classes today and left DH dealing with the kids for tonight!
DD has purfurated her ear drum so back and forwards for checks and the only appointment I could get was today - she needs another week of antibiotics and a referral to ENT. DH took DS to football and after me and DD were done I was wiped out so have had a shower and come to bed!
Just trying to do a meal plan - shopping list and money inventory while I’m in bed as it’s a nice time to get some peace and quiet!
I can’t belive I’m planning Nov already and I haven’t even bought an Xmas present! The weather is awful today and I’m so glad it’s half term next week as we need a week to chill out!
Hope everyone is doing well and managing best they can!Living the simple life0 -
Thanks Tink - that's what I said to the practice manager. A small thing to someone else but a massive inconvenience and a worry for me. I have them now thanks to a super helpful local pharmacist. I hope you feel better soon.
candy I agree, even if your mum only pays for a second opinion it will be worth it.
LW I usually buy the Wednesday one, do as much as I can then photocopy it and we try and finish it between us. Good luck to Mr LW making his choice and I hope your sore head is better soon too.0 -
Right here I go , lost the electrics for a few hours so just read back through the first of the posts I needed to catch up on , typos may be involved!!!
Wednesday i agree being asked to go into reception when you've already said you're too ill to go and don't want to infect anyone is just plain daft . I hope you're feeling a bit better now .
maddie My DD does a fair bit of knitting and has made some cowls , very quick and easy to knit . She uses either chunky or super chunky yarn and they are warm and comforting . She gets them out at this time time of year when coughs and sneezes are flying round the waiting room and on the high st and pretty well wherever we are . She just hunkers down in them to above her nose , she doesn't give two hoots what people think as her health is more important than other peoples judgement .
Curly Top Very , very belated birthday wishes . Your niece sounds a lovely girl and i hope the cake was enjoyed to the last crumb .
Re the amy on a trampoline ( LWs name for it ) we've seen here so far it works for some but not all . You're right to give it some time to see if it kicks in but any concern ring to make an appointment with your doctor .
There's nothing pants about still being in your night clothes if there isn't somewhere you need to be . i bet if they polled this thread and similar a lot of people would be the same . When you're exhausted there isn't a dress code .
Tink Maybe when possible listen to your Mum's advice . If you don't slow down when a chance comes along you'll burn out and be able to do much less . As someone who did it in the past and learned the hard way I recommend you think of yourself .
Good to hear the budget and meal plans are going well . It proves the planning is worthwhile . Christmas can be as simple as you like . With young children it's a chance for them to learn " stuff " doesn't equal love, care and time together snuggling down . As a mum of four I can tell you they soon forget the presents but they remember and keep the memories .
Prinzess You got all the boxes done quickly so well done . What's the present project now ? I hope Mum's results are back and all is well .
Nice to see you Pauline . Way back near the start of the thread I talked about Cloudy with a chance of pain . It's a research project at Manchester University which was begun around this time last year .
They are collecting feedback on each days weather and pain levels .
Anyone can join the online app . After a short time they were finding strong connections between weather conditions and chronic pain levels . It's still ongoing and the evidence is building .
The project is funded by Arthritis Research UK one of the few charities i find credible nowadays so if you've ever put a donation in a collecting box or bought from one of their charity shops you're helping medical science move forward .
This is as far as I've caught up so far . I'm about to watch my one weakness Casualty . I may get back later or if not then tomorrow .
Stay warm everyone , hugs if needed .

Thanks for the heads-up on the Philip Pullman book; unfortunately radio is no use to me as I'm too deaf to understand one word in three of what's being said, but Mr LW has just said we must buy the book; we often read books together - currently working on "Rusalka" by CJ Cherryh, and this would be a good one to add to our collection (we have all the rest of the "His Dark Materials" series).
I suspect we may be hitting the pc for a couple of hours playing "Skyrim" shortly. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
At this point, I wonder if I ought to admit to the fact that I don't actually own any night-clothes. :rotfl:
I recently bought some Primark pyjamas. I don't sleep in them but if you put them on when you get out of bed and someone subsequently knocks on the door you can get away with looking like you're wearing proper clothes :rotfl:0 -
LW just spotted you post . Shame you couldn't listen via the radio . I'd already bought the book on Thursday in Sainsbuty's at under £10 as I wasn't prepared to pay full price on Amazon , Only Sir Terry got the honour of pre ordered from the main site . I noticed after later while shopping that Smiths have it in the shop for £9'99 so pretty well half price and no delivery costs . I refuse to sign up for Prime so go via one or two sellers on Amazon very reliable and royal mail delivery .
One is Wordery and the other Book depository , I'd have been ordering from the cheaper of the two if i hadn't spotted it while shopping .
PP is another writer who kept DD going through the bad times .

Brilliant idea Cranky . Hope your bit of the NW wasn't bad today . Horrible here today very strong winds and battering down with rain since the early hours of today . Much calmer now but I'm fed up with power cuts .

I'm admitting defeat tonight . Lots of different things to read , so many of you with doctor problems , new diagnoses , bruises etc . The head just aint coping tonight so will try tomorrow .
Wishing sleep for those struggling to get a restful night .
My bump and bruise is pretty low on the scale of things . I was dashing round town on Thursday on my own as DD was still not too good . In Next collecting an order and chatting to the staff , we've known each other for years . I always put my shopping bags in front of my feet while standing at the counter as it means I don't forget to pick them up when leaving . i bent down to pick one up and when I started to rise again hit my right cheekbone near my eye with a loud smack as it hit the edge of the counter .
They offered me a chair , cup of tea and a cold compress and i said oh I'm fine . Walked to SBs and realised I was in pain and dizzy . Had a word with the pharmacist in there and she advised Arnica . i always have it at home but bought some , she very kindly told me it was cheaper off the store shelves than from buying from her and went and got me the identical item off the shelves .
Yesterday I was sitting opposite our Dr at DDs appt . He has always avoided all the bugs and viruses and we've always thought he was totally immune . He was coughing and I have a lovely black eye so we laughed and agreed we're not as smart as we like to think we are . I was really lucky hit to the outer corner of my eye but managed to miss the eye .
Anyway I'm going to make a hot drink , fill the hot water bottle and be sensible for once and head for bed .
Take care all , sleep tight
